Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 46

Just as Kazuki recovered one of the beast’s cores he dashed toward the puddle of meat soup, the remains of the other deceased Ancient beast.

Kazuki could feel the hair on the back of his neck stand at this moment.

Two fists came down atop him like war hammers.

Kazuki raised his arms together in the shape of an X to block.

*BANG!*

The rhino ape connected and drove Kazuki deep beneath the ice.

“Where are you looking human. Do you have time to worry about such trivial things when you’re facing me?”

Kazuki was a few miles under the ice. Shaking his arms loose, he was surprised.

(So that one is incredibly strong, almost as strong as Motozu. I can barely feel my arms. If not for the armor, my arms would have been completely obliterated.)

Kazuki was distracted by these thoughts and forgot his purpose for barely a second before he snapped back to reality.

(THE BEAST CORE!)

Kazuki sensed the soul fragment within was already becoming unstable.

The flames beneath his feet became brighter and burned hotter than molten magma. The ice surrounding him turned to water and vaporized into steam within a flash, creating an explosion as the steam expanded more than a dozen times in a second.

Kazuki used these forces to ascend upwards as fast as possible.

(I have to get to the core before it…

*KA-BOOOOOOOOOOM!!*

The soul fragment of the Ancient beast self-destructed.

A pure energy expanded outward at a rapid rate and encompassed more than 100 miles almost instantaneously. All of the ice was destroyed and several inches from the surface of the water was vaporized in an instant, filling the surroundings with a foggy mist that was filled with magical energy. The explosion killed three more Ancient beasts and heavily injured two more.

The ones that survived were the most durable or had their own life-saving measures.

The rhino ape had created a barrier of reddish-white flames around its entire body. The moment the explosion occurred, its flames only grew as it ate away at the pure magical energy and used it for fuel. The more energy in the air, the stronger his barrier grew to protect him.

The great snake as well had created dozens of tornadoes around its body. It fed its wind the pure magical energy and mimicked its big brother’s idea. The more energy that flew at it, was sucked into the tornadoes and caused them to only grow in protection.

Their idea was a simple one but worked quite well. Had the other Ancient beast been on their toes, they could have done the same but in the end, no one knows which way the tide will turn. Because of this, around half of the Ancient beast was no longer among the living.

The rhino ape called out to the other Ancient beast with a roar.

“If your still alive then seal the other beast cores before there are any more accidents!”

The beast all moved in unison and grabbed the beast cores of the fallen and sealed the cores before the soul fragments within caused the cores to explode.

After that, the rhino ape spread its flames outward within a range of 100 miles. The flames were incredibly hot but they were not meant for an attack, rather they were used for clean up. He along with the great snake spread a combination of wind and fire in every direction to suck up the excess pure energy.

Their powers were used to draw in all the excess pure energy to supply their magic with more power. The results of a beast’s core exploding would litter the environment with such pure energy that it became a poison to all living things and this poisonous pure energy could easily remain in the environment for years, allowing nothing to live in that area. By using their powers in this way, they could take away that pure energy and put it into their own magical attacks. They weren’t absorbing the energy into their bodies, merely adding them to the attacks they used.

The great snake created large tornadoes high up in the sky. As these tornadoes drew energy upward, they expanded greatly until they were the size of mountains. If not for the great snake’s control, these tornadoes could circle the world and wreak untold havoc across the lands.

The rhino ape as well used the excess energy to make his flames stronger and stronger and they grew higher and higher. Another beast repeatedly froze and unfroze the water around it. A few other beasts did the same. In this way, the excess energy began to settle and fade until a balance was brought back to this place.

The water froze once more and the flames dissipated. The clouds that had been ripped to shreds and pushed away had slowly reformed and the rushing wind returned to a natural tranquil calm.

The remaining Ancient beast came together around the Motozu’s bones. The great snake spoke with contempt.

“Even in the end, Motosssu ssssstill brought ussss nothing but trouble.”

The large rhino ape disagreed.

“It wasn’t Motozu who brought this upon us rather it was that weird human. Who would have thought such a strong one could emerge from their species. It killed a few of us in seconds and then because of the resentment of being killed the soul fragments left behind in the cores self-destructed. Not only that but a few of us caused the deaths of others. We were not in synch at all and just launched random attacks at that tiny human. This brought us more confusion than anything. As for noting but trouble, have you forgotten, Motozu’s lair awaits us below. Now that the human pest has died, all the treasure below is ours for the taking.”

The snake flicked its forked tongue in the air trying to sense Kazuki’s presence.

“Big brother, are you ssssure that human issss dead?”

The rhino ape nodded.

“I can neither smell him nor sense him at all. We all have our own ways to survive a beast core erupting. To deal with that pure energy as long as one is prepared, it can be handled. Humans though are far less resilient. The moment this pure energy comes into contact with them, just breathing a little in will cause their cores to go out of control, and with it their magic goes chaotic within them and they die. Living creatures once they take in that pure energy, theirs nothing that can be done. There’s no way that human sur

*Crack*

The rhino ape hadn’t finished its words when the ice beneath them all cracked and several blades of god metal came stabbing upward.

*Schink schink schink schink schink*

The blades pierced through the heads of all of the Ancient beast’s heads beside the rhino ape and the snake. The rhino ape had punched downward at the last second. The blade had only pierced a few inches into its fist before it was forced back down beneath the ice. The snake as well was unnaturally quick. The moment the blade had stabbed upward towards its head, the snake’s third eye opened up and it fired a powerful beam of dark energy beneath it. The blade and the beam of dark energy connected with one another and the blade was forced deep beneath the ice.

Both the rhino ape and the grat snake took to the skies.

“Big brother I thought you sssaid he wasss dead!”

The rhino ape remained silent as he peered down at the ice ground below.

*CRack crack crack*

The ice splintered and Kazuki broke out from it and landed near the bodies. His hands flashed ancient and symbols and in an instant, he sealed all of the beast cores before storing the large corpses into his ring. Looking up at the tow that had escaped him, Kazuki smiled demonically.

“Now only two remain.”

The rhino ape and the great snake saw that covering Kazuki head to toe was a row of scales. Seeing those scales they knew what they were in an instant.

“Big brother! He usssed Motosssu’s sssscales to defend himssself from the beassst coresss explosssions.”

The rhino ape could see that and shouted angrily at his little brother.

“Stop talking! I know.”

The rhino ape looked at its bleeding fist, the blood stopped and it sealed its wound closed. Looking at the scales on Kazuki’s body along with the blade in his hand, it knew Kazuki was a terrible threat and could not be looked down upon or he and his little brother would die in the blink of an eye.

*Fwhoosh*

This was no time to play. The rhino ape now knowing the threat of death was on the table, he quickly surrounded its entire body with a barrier of reddish-white flames before speaking both calmly yet with the most serious tone as possible.

“Little brother hurry and raise your defenses. Do it now!”

The great snake knew how his older brother was. If he was speaking like this, then he meant it.

A barrier of wind surrounded the entire snake’s body and it kept its third eye open. Pools of dark energy leaked from its third eye as it was ready to fire its dark beam of energy at any moment.

Kazuki saw no more reason to keep the Motozu’s bones lying about. They had worked as bait in gathering strong creatures for Kazuki to feed on later. Now that there were only two Ancient beasts left here, Kazuki felt the bones had no more use as bait and stored them.

Looking at the last two beasts, Kazuki began thinking about how to best kill them when surprisingly the rhino ape called out to him.

“Human, we have both witnessed your might and it is clear that you are the one responsible for killing Motozu. In the far north, those that could take on Motozu, besides the Titan Aruzai with its soul poison, the only others are I Tozu and my little brother here Sasai. We both recognize you as strong but we too hold power. I don’t tell you this as a threat but rather I am simply stating a fact. When it came to Motozu I and my brother could take it on and have done so many times in the past, therefore when it comes to a battle between you and us, the results are not something any can see accurately.”

After Tozu said this, Kazuki’s look changed. from one of bloodlust to one of confusion.

“Why are you telling me all of this?”

Sasai the great snake stared at his older brother Tozu, he also didn’t understand why his brother said all of this. They had just raised their defenses, so the natural thought would be that they were about to fight but the way his big brother spoke it was as if they were giving up.

Sasai was about to ask when Tozu waved him away and answered Kazuki.

“The reason I say all of this, should be obvious.”

Tozu released the barrier of flames surrounding his body and slowly descended to the ground.

“I don’t think the three of us need no longer fight each other.”
