Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 63
“I still don’t know if either way will actually work. Both ideas are still theoretical but If this works, the Golem will not only have a way to defend itself against aura but I’ll also have no need to control it.”
“Kazuki you tease far too much, just tell us already.”
Kazuki denied Shaila’s request.
“I need to hammer out a few details. If it comes together, I’ll fill you in but for now, why don’t you all relax. I can take you to a nice inn or you all are welcome to go explore the city, just remember the rules.”
Shaila pouted a bit before wrapping her arm around Tozu.
“Kazuki you suck but I understand you have your own thoughts. Dear, let’s go. I want to see more curiosities, I want to check out every inch of this city.”
Tozu was interested in the sights as well. Although he wanted to know how Kazuki would overcome the aura problem, he could see that Kazuki wasn’t willing to explain any more until he at the very least thought the problem through.
With fat stacks of gold Zeni in their storage devices, the two promptly left arm in arm. A lovey-dovey atmosphere floating annoyingly around them.
Sasai felt awkward now. With his brother and sis in law gone, it was just him left with the humans. One he barely got along with and one he didn’t. At the same time, it would be weird to just go through the human city all on his own. Sasai stood there silently for a moment.
“Sasai, are you going to stick around here or leave?”
“Is it a problem if I stay?”
“Not particularly but I just figured you’d much rather have a taste of all the different alcohol and foods in the city, after all, you won’t be here very long right?”
With the mention of tasty things, Sasai didn’t hesitate.
“Your right!”
Those two words were all he said before leaving in a rush.
“Kazuki, are all Ancient beasts like that?”
“Like what?”
“Like that. Always in a hurry to do this or do that.”
Kazuki shrugged.
“I’ve met too few to say anything for sure but I think anyone would act the same way were they in a new environment with so many different and inviting things. Just like how you get excited when you come across a rare ingredient for crafting, they get the same way with human things. It’s actually more natural a thing than you make it out to be.”
Sid nodded.
“I suppose your right.”
Kazuki’s ring flashed and the Magic core appeared in his hand. Sid was confused as Kazuki had said he wouldn’t use it. That confusion only grew when Kazuki proceeded to toss the magic core over to him. Sid stumbled and nearly dropped the core in a fluster. As soon as it was firmly in his hand, he clutched it as if it was his most precious treasure. A flare of obsession in his eye, Sid had no willpower to remove his gaze from it.
“You are probably wondering why that is now in your hand. Even after I said I wouldn’t show it to you and I didn’t wish for you to have knowledge about how to create it.”
Sid finally tore his gaze away after hearing Kazuki.
“If this moment really is not a dream then your reasoning must be very serious. I don’t feel like guessing and playing games though, not when it comes to this. Please tell me I really do get to study this and this isn’t some artificial reality in which you take pleasure in my hope being crushed.”
“It’s not that cryptic. This, I really do want you to study it and you will make me a new one from this.”
Kazuki held a Magic beast core in his hand. Even after sealing it fully, small amounts of energy still leaked from it.
“This is from the Motozu, it’s the creature’s beast core. I took it from the Motozu and destroyed the soul fragment within. This will be the new Magic core for the Golem. This will be its power source.”
Sid didn’t understand.
“You have a perfectly good Magic core right here, why use a Beast’s core?”
“For one simple reason, I don’t know how to split my soul. If I can’t split my soul, I can’t leave a fragment of my soul behind in the magic core and I won’t be able to control it.”
“What, you can’t split your soul but your so powerful isn’t that just something you know how to do?”
“No, I have a few pieces of memories from Glacious. There’s something about it in the 6th stage but not the 5th. It’s still unclear though.”
“If you can’t split your soul until you reach the 6th stage then why not just get one of those companions of yours to do it for you? Aren’t Ancient beasts supposed to be equivalent to the 6th stage?”
“Just because their strength and power are equivalent to a 6th stage Mage, that doesn’t mean they know the process of soul separation. At the same time, do you think I would fully trust them to have total control over this Golem? This Golem may not equal them in magic, strength, or speed but its body is made of Orichalcum, it is the closest thing to indestructible I know of. If I make it past the point where the south and east region can no longer threaten me, it would be pretty shitty to suddenly be stabbed in the back by Tozu and the others. I’m not saying they would do it but to give over all of my trust to complete strangers is that not the definition of a naive idiot. Not only that, if they were to really use my own weapon against me, I’d die of humiliation before they even killed me.”
“But then what are you planning to do. You can’t just get a soul fragment from somewhere. Not only that one that would be under your control. The whole reason why you use a fragment of your own soul is so that it can not be corrupted and used against you.”
“As I said I have a solution for that. I won’t need to control it at all.”
Sid still didn’t quite get it but if Kazuki said he had a way, old Sid had no reason to doubt him.
“Still, this doesn’t explain fully why you are now allowing me to study it. If you already have a solution for the aura problem and the soul problem why do you need me to make you a new one.”
“I can’t make it and besides, the Motozu core holds a few different powers within it, it would be a shame to let those elements go. One of the most important reasons why though is that I need more strength right now. My enemies have multiplied in a single go and I need some insurance in case things take a bad turn. This Golem will help ease my burden a great deal. Now can you do this or should I find another mad master crafting expert?”
Sid snorted.
“Hmph, who in all of this kingdom is better than I when it comes to crafting? You find that son of a bitch and I’ll spank myself and call em daddy.”
Kazuki didn’t exactly know what that meant but he got the gist of it.
Kazuki handed over the Motozu core as well. Sid took a glance at it and set it down on the golden table as if it were nothing. Setting the Magic core down as well. His storage ring glowed dimly and a golden glove appeared on his hand. Each finger was a different color made from crystal.
“The Sozo glove.”
Sid nodded.
“This glove allows me to control every element with utmost efficiency. This glove is one of the secrets that allow me to craft things incredibly fast with great accuracy and without losing craftsmanship in the process. Using it along with the golden table the effects are amplified and the speed becomes that much greater. I can not only place detailed inscriptions beneath the surface of an object but there is also another function. This glove can act as a feeler of sorts, allowing me to literally feel the inscriptions, the groves, that make up every line and every circle.”
As sid spoke, a few of the crystals on the fingers lit up. Some dimmed and others brightened. It looked like a light show of sorts. While this happened, a magic pen floated in the air next to Sid and began to scribble the ancient language down onto a piece of paper.
Sid was copying all of the inscriptions he felt one by one upon a sheet of paper. Kazuki recognized several of the inscriptions, many he found matched the ones from the Magic core exactly while there were a few he couldn’t make heads or tails out of. However as time trickled away and minutes became hours, he soon understood that the unrecognizable inscriptions were layers of inscriptions covering other inscriptions.
Sid was sweating by this time and his face was pale as magic was constantly being drained. One sheet of paper became two and then four until eventually thousands of sheets of paper were piled up near the ceiling.
*Pheeew*
After a heavy breath, the glove began to dim and the pen scribbled no more.
“Is it done?”
Sid shook his head.
“Not yet, I’ve managed nearly a third. For now, I need to recover. After I copy the rest down, then comes the next phase. I’ll have to transfer them to the Motozu core.”
“The Sozo glove can really do all that!?”
Sid gave a nod.
“With this glove, enough time, and enough power, the possibilities are as high as the sky. The time and energy it requires though is incredibly vast. Still, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
