Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 93

Kazuki wore a stunned expression after hearing that but Danny mistook Kazuki’s facial cues as disbelief or anger that Danny didn’t mention Kai after Kazuki said he was gone.

Danny thought he was being a bit insensitive and changed the topic to Kai.

“Your older brother…He was amazing in some ways. His mastery over the sword as well as what he taught me about the blade and the soul…Meeting someone like him was a privilege. At the same time, Kai was one to get on my nerves half the time. He was nerve-racking, to say the least. The constant nagging and jokes pushed my buttons to no end but although that part of your brother was annoying, in a way I knew it was his way of showing that he cared. Kai could say what he was thinking only with regards to combat and outside situations. It was hard for him to really express the way he felt toward you with his own words but whenever it was just him and me, there were brief moments when he spoke about you. Every time he did, it was constant bragging. He would talk about you as if you were a genius of some sort and how incredible you were at enduring great pains. He spoke to me like this time and time again as if I weren’t observing all of this myself. Again these were his annoying points but it wasn’t always that.”

Kazuki got choked up as he listened. Danny wasn’t very good at reading the atmosphere so he just continued as if nothing was wrong.

“Whenever we practiced and spared with one another, I could see more of Kai’s genuine side. When he swung a branch, only at those times did he seem content. Kai was a friend and I think I can speak for both of us when I say I’m glad he’s gone.”

Kazuki was startled and shocked and he grabbed Danny by the arm reflexively. Before he let his anger get to him Danny’s words broke his anger.

“I don’t mean I’m glad he’s no longer of this world but rather I’m glad he’s free. I don’t know how you look at your soul world Kazuki but for those who reside there, it is anything but paradise. A place where you can neither feel hot nor cold nor anything really. A place where you can not eat, nor feel pleasure or pain. In such a place you spend your days watching the living while you can neither live nor truly die. While I was inside your soul world, all was fine in the beginning. As time passes, however, things are completely different. A day out here in the real world is equivalent to 100 inside there. To me, your soul world was a prison. Imagine what it was like for Kai. He spent well over a thousand years inside there and for most of it, he was completely alone and isolated. He couldn’t communicate with you whatsoever until the day you were hit with a soul attack from that big bug Zetsu. Up to that point, Kai could only watch you live your life.”

Kazuki swallowed hard and he slowly let Danny go.

“Kazuki, you yourself were losing it while you were trapped in the Abyssal trench and that was for less than a year. Even though it’s not exactly comparable, you could still communicate with both me and Kai while Kai on the other hand, when Kai was isolated, he could seek no one. In such a place you begin to wish for death but even then he’s nearly powerless and can’t even end his own existence. Not only that he has to sit in fear of the unknown. He doesn’t know if there is a place for him once his soul vanishes. After his soul is gone, is he even anything anymore, does he even exist at all. These are the things he must have thought about. How terrifying would that be, never knowing if you will cease to exist at any time? At least now…Your brother is truly free. Even if he is no longer around, maybe now he will have some semblance of peace. At least that’s what I wish for…that is what I hope has happened.”

Kazuki had never looked at it in this way before but Danny made sense. Kazuki felt he was on the edge of going insane countless times deep in the black abyss, yet he never thought how his brother may have felt suffering such loneliness for more than a thousand years.

Kazuki didn’t know how to respond to any of that but what happened next shook him. Danny placed his hands together and offered Kai a prayer. Kazuki wasn’t religious in any sense of the word and didn’t believe in such things but when Danny did this, Kazuki couldn’t help but feel Danny’s sincerity.

After a moment, Danny opened his eyes and lifted his head.

“Danny…Thank you.”

Danny shook his head.

“A prayer is the least I can do for your brother. I’, sorry there isn’t more that can be done.”

After that, the two caught up with the others and they had another talk, this time about what Danny had brought up, Etora. In the end, they couldn’t say whether Etora had been taking over by a Vazul or not. After all, he didn’t show any tendencies of a Vazul. Etora didn’t simply consume whatever and whenever like a Vazul. Yes, he seemed hungry all the time but he only ate actual food unless he was fighting and Etora didn’t seem to grow like Kazuki did when the Vazul in him devoured things.

All of these things though wasn’t exactly enough to put Etora in the clear. Maybe he was just good at hiding his identity. The truth was, none of them didn’t know. They would have to be wary of Etora the next time they meet until they could actually verify he wasn’t an enemy.

After all, it was Etora who passed the Ourodyess technique to the Boar king who then passed it on to Abura and after that, it was Kazuki who learned it from Abura’s memories. If Etora was the one who passed it down then that would lead them to believe he has one of those gates within him that allow a Vazul to enter this realm and possess him.

From what Kazuki learned from Zetrazz though, the Vazul would escape through one of the gates and possess a body and then start devouring everything they can to become invincible or at least strong enough to try and revive the dead god Ourodyess. Kazuki didn’t even know if it was even possible to do such a thing as revive a dead god but the way Zetrazz spoke of it, he made it seem as if were a fact.

In the end, they didn’t know and they would have to have their guard up even more.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

In a short time, Kazuki and the others arrived in the vicinity of Edngaul.

Once they were near, they could hear the echo of continuous screams and could see several fires still raging from the city. One of the Ancient beasts who was protecting Dreunz’s grandson self-destructed his Magical beast core on the outskirts of the city. Kazuki had quickly made a large shield wall to protect the city but it wasn’t big enough to protect all of it.

Several miles of the city had been destroyed in an instant. Shaila and the other beasts had rid the place of the pure magical energy that came as an after effect of the beast core exploding but that was all they could do before they had to leave to catch up and ambush Drunz and the other Ancient beasts.

Kazuki and the other beasts at his side could sense how much life had been stolen at this time and how many more were still dying as the city was burning. Kazuki and Danny didn’t hesitate to rush forward. Shaila rushed forward as well, Tozu followed his wife, and Sasai albeit begrudgingly followed after that.

Kazuki took to the center of the most devastated area and stretched out his aura. He held back all of the pressure and used his aura to lift rubble and debris, falling structures, and other heavy shit and stored it inside his ring to get it out of the way.

Danny took to the skies and he gathered his magic power. His eyes took on a soft glow before he held out both hands palms out over the city.

*SPSHSHHHSH*

A large gush of water spread out all around. He made it rain down in big thick drops over the fires. There were several other mages helping put out the fires with water and dirt but when Danny released this water it was like the difference between night and day. He didn’t stop with a heavy rain either. On the worst spots that were still blazing, he pressurized his water and turned it into a small cannon and in a mere few seconds, every fire was snuffed out and drowned.

The three Ancient beasts were no slackers either. They moved buildings and helped rescue thousands.

Kazuki’s voice rang out over the city at this time.

“Bring all the injured to me!”

Kazuki picked up thousands with his aura and carried them safely to his surroundings. Shaila and the others did the same until anyone that was injured was in Kazuki’s vicinity.

Kazuki then scanned over everyone and accessed the ones that were on the verge of death all the way to the ones with mere cuts and bruises. He then sent out his ki. Though he could only send it out about 30 feet or so, still he flew over everyone while sending tendrils of ki flying into them. He aimed for it so that it would penetrate precisely where they were fatally injured. In this way, a miracle seemed to unfold in front of everyone’s eyes.
An old man with a hole in his chest was gasping on his final breaths when Kazuki’s ki entered his wound. A moment later the man sat up and hacked up some blood before the wound his chest closed and healed. A small child next to him yelled out and held him tight.

The same thing happened to a young woman who was bleeding from her stomach. She too was healed in seconds. This happened again and again to all of these people. One after another shouts and prayers of joy rang out all over. When Kazuki finished, barely a minute had passed.

After that, he landed nearby, along with Shaila Danny and the others. As soon as they landed, the people quickly surrounded them and started praising them and praying even more as if they were saints or gods.

Sasai had to back away as several women approached him and Shaila couldn’t help but tease him.

While the others seemed to enjoy this attention to some degree, Kazuki was feeling differently. After all, it was he who led the Ancient beasts here. If not for him, there would have been no explosion near the city in the first place.

Kazuki flew up and avoided them. Danny wondered where he was going.

“Kazuki where

Before he could finish, Kazuki shouted over him.

“Old sid is most likely still far outside the city. I’ll go grab him, you finish things up here.”

Just like that, Kazuki flashed away, leaving a streak of blue light behind.
