Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 13
“GARN YOU BAS…
Light filled the world and sky and then everything went black.
Purple light wrapped around his body and a weird sensation filled him and everything went blank.
A veil of darkness shrouded all thoughts like a weird dream.
(Where…?)
“Hey Mister, what are you doing here?”
A child-like voice rang out near him.
“Did you hear me, old man? How did you get here?”
Bozek’s eyes snapped open with a start.
His head snapped around in every direction as he found himself in a wide-open forest. The place was completely unfamiliar.
In front of him stood a questioning small girl.
Bozek’s mind was still fuzzy. Last he remembered, an undeniable power came crashing down upon him. Garn had set to destroy him and his death seemed guaranteed.
Bozek felt a heat coming from his chest, or rather from a small amulet that hung around his neck.
The amulet was black as night inlaid with gold. It had an insignia with the image of a dragon with a world in its mouth. Tiny words inscribed within read.
[Dragons above all]
This small sentence was scratched out and there was something even smaller written next to it which said.
[I love you always]
Bozek held this up and before he could do anything, the power within the amulet faded away, with it, the amulet crumbled apart and was reduced to dust.
Seeing this, Bozek felt as if his heart had been ripped apart.
(Mother, you left me such a treasure. If not for this keepsake, Garn would have taken my life. Mother, thank you.)
Bozek had mentioned he had a few cards up his sleeve, but he never imagined Garn would actually try and kill him at that moment. Now his amulet was no more and one of said cards was used.
As Bozek was lost in thought, a rock flew over and hit him square in the head. A small child took a step forward with hands on her hips.
“Hey mister, I was talking to you. How did you get here? Answer me or I’ll have to get serious!”
Bozek looked over this small girl and chuckled. No one that knew of him would dare do something such as throw rocks at him yet this little twerp in front of him actually hit him in the head with one.
“Little girl I don’t know who you are nor where I am but I have every right to be here…wherever this place is. As for throwing rocks, I don’t appreciate a small fry like you chucking them at me. You should apologize.”
The small girl furrowed her little brows in anger.
“Mei is not a little girl or a small fry! Mei is a big big bird! And this place is not somewhere just anyone is allowed to be. You mister are trespassing so you need to leave before I make you leave!”
Bozek found this child to be funny.
He slowly stood up. Bozek was well over 6 feet tall and was a man built with large muscles. Even though he used magic as a means to fight, he was also fairly skilled when it came to close combat which is why he used a large glaive. Him towering over such a small child would usually leave them in tears even if he said nothing to them. They would cower in fright and hide behind the nearest adult or tree. This wasn’t something he really liked but it was just the nature of children to be scared of him.
He expected the exact same from Mei. He would first stand up and scare her with his large frame before getting her to tell him where he was and lead him back to wherever she came from so he could get more information from an actual adult. This is what he expected but this is not what he got.
The moment he stood up in front of her and acted like a dominant figure, Mei smirked at him, and in an instant, she transformed. Her skin fell away like it was melting and was replaced by thick black and silverish feathers. Each feather was harder than most metals yet was still flexible. Her body extended upward and she turned into a large bird that was well over 30 feet tall.
Opening her mouth, instead of a screech, a powerful voice chimed out.
“I’m not afraid of you mister. Now tell me how you came to be in Uncle Glacious’s tiny world, otherwise, I’ll have to crush you.”
Bozek couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The small girl had transformed into a large black and silver bird.
(This child is actually a Magical beast. This color and this form. Is she a Mangshi?…No, for her to be this big at such a young age, she must be a Mangshi queen.)
“Too afraid to speak mister? Fine, I’ll make you talk and then Mama will know what to do?”
Up to here, Bozek snapped out of it as he recalled what she said just before.
“Wait, you mentioned Glacious. You said he was your uncle but you are a Mangshi.”
“So what of it?”
“Glacious, I know him, he and I are related.”
Mei’s expression changed slightly but the very next moment she yelled.
“You can’t trick Mei! Uncle doesn’t have anyone related to him, not in this world. Everyone that shares blood with him is his enemy and he either killed them or chased them out of this realm. They died or fled to a higher realm. How dare you try and trick Mei! Mei is not stupid!”
Mei flapped her wings and a tornado formed in front of her. Before Bozek could say another word, this tornado flew over and came bearing down atop Bozek.
Bozek started to understand the situation. A large glaive appeared in his hands. Raising it up high above his head, using only the strength of his body he swung the glaive down with brute force.
This force of his created a wind not with magic but from pure strength. The moment his slash met her tornado, the tornado was torn apart and his wind even rushed further and slammed into Mei. Mei though was covered in armored feathers and was unfazed by this. However, she could see that the man in front of her was definitely stronger than her.
“Hmph, you are strong but you won’t be able to beat all of us!”
Just as she said that Golems began to rise out of the ground in pairs of two and three. Bozek could see a misunderstanding starting to grow and he quickly threw down his Glaive.
“I did not come here to fight. Let me speak clearly with you. I am no enemy of yours nor of Glacious. If you really are a big big bird as you claim, then I’m sure you’ll have the maturity to at least hear out someone who has thrown down their weapon and isn’t willing to fight back!”
The golems that were rising out of the ground in great numbers didn’t move. At the same time, Mei stopped flapping her wings. She held her head up high.
“Right! Mei is a big big bird and is very mature. She can listen as long as you tell the truth and don’t try anything funny old mister.”
(This child really is a child in the way she thinks.)
The ring on Bozek’s finger glowed with a dim light before another older ring appeared in his hand. It held the same insignia as before and showed the image of a dragon with a world in its mouth.
“This ring was given to my mother when she was a small child no bigger than you in your human form. When she grew to a certain age, a marriage was arranged for her. She was to be married to another dragon from a different clan. My mother though was quite rebellious and wanted to forge her own path. She ended up running away from home with a few treasures. She at some point met a human man and the two fell in love with one another. Later I was born, half man and half dragon. My birth caused a huge uproar and I was deemed an abomination. My father was nearly killed but my mother protected him but in exchange for our lives she was dragged back to the clan. Eventually, she was dragged to a higher realm and disappeared. All that I have of her is a few things, including this ring. Even my father eventually died a few years later due to disease. I was very little when this all happened. Because I am not fully dragon, Glacious didn’t see me as part of his clan and since I had never been a part of the clan, he didn’t kill me when he began to slaughter all of the dragons of this world. He doesn’t see me as kin but we are related by blood, whether he acknowledges it or not.”
Mei was starting to become dizzy from so much talking.
“As to how I came here. One of the treasures my mother left behind before she was taken was something that could save my life. The moment I was about to die, the treasure activated by itself and teleported me away to here. If this is truly Glacious’s tiny world, then it makes sense how I came to be here.”
Before Bozek went on, Mei shouted at him.
“OK OK MEI BELIEVES YOU. COME AND TELL MAMA BECAUSE THIS IS TOO MUCH TOO MUCH!”
The golems seem to melt into the ground and disappear.
“Follow me old mister.”
