Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 34

Kazuki’s roar echoed out for hundreds upon hundreds of miles. Combined with his aura breath, a unique suppression-like effect followed. His aura breath was not infinite, though, and only covered a short range. Unfortunately for his enemies, they were just in the range of this aura breath of his and with it brought a momentary lapse from them.

Kazuki and the others took this opportunity when Dreunz and the rest were stunned and made their move. Using every ounce of his strength, along with his ki and aura strengthening, Kazuki launched several javelins from close range. His aim this time wasn’t Dreunz but the two tanky Ancient beasts in front of Dreunz.

They had, up to this point, been able to knock every single one of Kazuki’s javelins out of the sky, but that was when Kazuki was holding back slightly. This time, when he put everything he had into these throws, the results differed.

Both had barriers of magic surrounding them, but Kazuki’s javelins broke through. As soon as his weapons broke through, it was like the two beasts awoke from a deep slumber. In a frantic way, they both tried to block these javelins with their all.

One opened his mouth and roared. A powerful storm erupted outward and managed to divert the javelin into his own side. The javelin stabbed deeply within but was stopped. Such a wound was superficial to an Ancient beast, and as long as this beast had enough time, he would recover shortly.

The other Ancient beast was not as lucky as his friend. He had been a fraction of a second too late, and the javelin, with terrifying force behind it, ripped through his head and turned his brain and everything else above his shoulders into a mushy paste. The beast’s head had exploded, sending chunks of bone, brain matter, and blood scattering in every direction.

At the same time that Kazuki had thrown these javelins, Shaila moved like a titanic shadow. She appeared in front of her enemy, and her hand warped into a panther’s claw. Phantom blades made from dark energy slashed at her opponent with a single swipe.

Several blades of dark energy divided her enemy into more than a dozen pieces. Swinging her other hand upward, she sliced the enemy into cross-sections.

On the other side, Tozu opened his mouth, and from his mouth and hands, three columns of fire spiraled forward, rotating around one another and combined into a beam of fire energy. The temperature rose significantly, and the fire warped and changed color from bright orange to bright blue.

The opponent had been one who wasn’t taking this seriously and had been laughing and chatting just seconds earlier. Because of this, this enemy’s guard was lowered as low as it could possibly be. Therefore, he couldn’t even manage to even try to raise a barrier, and Tozu’s flames burned a large hole directly through his head, killing him on the spot.

Danny moved as fast as the wind and swung his saber down diagonally with a wide slash. This enemy had also lowered his guard, but not as significantly as the others. She was surprised to see Danny appear in front of her, but not so much that she couldn’t defend herself. This blade, she didn’t even need to dodge, and she caught Danny’s strike directly. A small cut formed on her hand, but besides that, the beast was fine.

The beasts smiled.

“This weapon of yours is quite sharp, but still not enough to cut me down. Too bad that was your only chance.”

Danny said nothing, but a voice echoed out from within his chest.

“You think that was the end of it?”

The moment these words escaped from within Danny’s body, the three chest plates on Danny’s chest opened up, revealing Sasai within. Sasai’s third eye was already fully open on his forehead, and dark energy was pulsing with power.

The Ancient beasts saw this, and her expression changed to one of fright, and she wished to dodge, but it was far too late.

*PSHHHOOOOM!*

This dark beam shot out from close range. The Ancient beasts stood no chance, and her head proceeded to melt into a sizzling puddle.

All of this had played out in less than two seconds. These two seconds were all it took for four more elite Ancient beasts to fall. The number of enemies had now been reduced to five.

The confidence and cocky demeanor they all had just moments ago, all in an instant, had been turned upside down. It didn’t make any sense what they were witnessing, but the facts were plain as day. These beasts…this human—none of them were weak.

With the enemies stunned by what just happened, how would Kazuki and the others not take advantage. Another javelin appeared in Kazuki’s hand.

Kazuki prepared to throw another javelin, but the hairs on the back of his neck stood. He rotated and spun the javelin between his hands, covering his front, and was greeted with a powerful beam of light.

Dreunz continuously released his light, and the gathered heat started to rise in the javelin in Kazuki’s hand. The light was deflected in every direction and cut through the ground like a knife through butter. The god metal was nearly unbreakable and could absorb a shit ton of energy, but Dreunz’s light was incomparable to a meager amount. This caused the god metal to start to flake and fall apart in Kazuki’s hands. Kazuki was being pushed back and could not take it all. While spinning the javelin in his hand, another appeared in his other.

Changing the angle at which he spun the javelin, the light reflected backward and into Dreunz’s eyes, blocking his vision for a split second. At that moment, Kazuki tossed the other javelin over.

Camilla saw this coming and made a tornado of wind blades to block it.

*CHing Schink*

The blades knocked one another away, and Kazuki managed to retreat a bit. Just before they were all about to re-engage, the beast cores from the freshly fallen Ancient beasts, as if to express their disbelief and undying anger, the fragments within made the cores destruct.

*KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

Four Ancient beasts cores, all at once went off between them all. The pure energy within these cores was enough to destroy hundreds of miles of the continent if not thousands. Everyone here knew this, and as if it was an unwritten rule, each of the Ancient beasts on both sides gathered as much of the excess energy as they could and fired off an excessive amount of magic. As they took in this energy, it became theirs, and they aimed it at one another.

The explosion that had just rung out was promptly followed by a rage of power. Beams of energy went flying from one side to the other. bolts of lightning went racing across and struck at one another, beams of golden white light, a mountain of ice, and an even greater mountain of gordonia. Nearly all the elements were displayed in a rash and chaotic way, but each display brought terrible destruction.

The land was left with craters miles deep and wide. Forest was ripped up, leveled, and then reduced to ash. Rivers froze over in an instant, then exploded into boiling hot steam, and then froze over again. The clouds were torn apart and then reformed as black storms formed above, bringing down tornadoes and hurricanes in single bouts.

So much power, so much destruction in a single moment began to tear at the fabric of space itself. Kazuki was near the center of all of it. He should have clearly been dead. After all, such pure energy from a beast’s core was like a deadly poison. It was an amount of power that would cause a person’s Mage core to become overloaded in an instant and explode.

Everyone knew Kazuki was at the 5th stage, the core stage. At this stage to come into contact with the pure energy from an Ancient beast’s core should only result in death, yet, the moment all of this chaos rained down upon them all, it was Kazuki who was the calmest.

All of the attacks everyone fired off, after using the excess power in the atmosphere, such power was unsustainable at their levels and faded within seconds.

If they had more control and more of this power, such displays of power could last for days, months, or maybe even longer. Glacious was proof of that but these Beasts were nowhere as strong as that.

These Ancient beasts had blocked the destruction around them with their own barriers, so it was natural for them to survive all of this.

However, when things cleared up, they were surprised to see Kazuki floating in the center of all this.

Inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly, dark energy and aura mixed together. Using this Aura breath, a layer of energy covered Kauzki’s body in protection. The pure energy from the beast’s cores could not penetrate it, nor could the magic storms and attacks reach him. All of the chaos, all of the power, none of it had broken through his aura breath.

A silence gathered between everyone, and for a brief moment, no one attacked. Whether it was because what had just taken place was truly out of the ordinary and unexpected for these Ancient beasts or because they were simply overwhelmed with shock and rage, no one really knew.

Words, though, need not be said. Seeing Kazuki as a mere human being able to survive their magic, these Ancient beasts all knew what needed to be done. Such an existence as he, how could any of them allow a human to reach such heights.

They had not taken things too seriously up until now, and now they realized their mistake. A thought rang out similarly in their heads.

(If he continues to grow, the heights he can reach would be limitless. He must not be allowed to live!)

At the same time, Kazuki could feel the dark energy within his golden compass pulsing with excitement and thrill.
