Return of the Fallen Volume 8 Chapter 81
The lightning flowing through the sky stopped responding to Fera’s will. She didn’t know why this was happening but the cause was obvious. Danny’s posturing and cold tone, it was he who now moved the lightning as he wished.
Danny took to the skies and drew his black silver blade. Gripping the dull white handle, energy gathered within the blade at a rapid rate.
“You said everything we’ve done is worthless but in my opinion, it’s the opposite. By fighting you, they allowed me to see how you handle magic. It’s interesting how one without a real body, one without a Mage core or a Beats core can use magic so freely, which gave me a certain idea about you.”
As Danny spoke up to here, Fera felt something was off.
(Did he notice something?)
As Danny brought his sword up in front of him, all of the lightning went from chaotic cracks and booms to something almost uniform. It all began to circle above him as if awaiting an order.
Fera and everyone else were stunned by this development. Danny was using or rather controlling someone elses magic in front of them all.
Fera was only stunned for a moment. The wind started speeding up around her and forming more tornadoes. To this though Danny merely smirked.
“So what if you hold the lightning! I’ll shred you into scrap metal and melt you down into a fucking footstool.”
Danny shook his head.
“It’s too late. You’ve already lost.”
Danny swung his dark saber at a steep angle as if he were trying to cleave the world in two.
(Lightning and severing tempest combined.)
“STORM TEMPEST!”
Inscriptions lit up along Danny’s blade with brilliant light and the moment he swung his silver black saber, the lightning swirling above came crashing down all around all three Fera’s. The lightning cracked and the wind howled. The lightning charged forward and in an instant, it formed a large sphere of energy around the three Fera’s trapping them all at once.
Fera was of course confused but she was also amused and felt slightly let down.
“All of that talk and all you did was put me in a cage. Even without lightning, I’ll simply tear this thin attempt into nothing.”
Kazuki and everyone else didn’t understand what Danny had done exactly and Sasai was the first to berate him.
“Was that really the only thing you had? We wasted our time and energy and now we no longer have the power to run! You’ve doomed us all!”
Danny ignored Sasai’s anger and continued to swing his sword. The lightning cage surrounding Fera began to rotate. The lightning glowed strangely and seemed to dance and scatter about as it spun around the three Fera’s.
The moment Fera threatened Danny, she created another tornado and attempted to tear the cage apart but before the tornado got anywhere near the edge of the cage, the spinning scattering lightning jumped inward and struck the tornado.
*BOOOOOOM!*
Branches of lightning filled the tornado before destroying it in an instant as if it were never there in the first place.
Everyone looked on, once more they had no clue what was happening. Fera as well saw her attack fail so easily and her anger and confusion rose.
“I’m not done! This strange cage can handle one attack, but what about a hundred, a thousand.”
Dozens of tornadoes spun up but before Fera even shot them forward, the lightning made its move. All of the tornadoes were filled with branches of arcing electricity and the very next instant they were reduced to nothing.
Fera’s cloudy eyes went round and wide. Her attack had failed again. This time it had failed before it had even gotten started.
(How can this be? More! I’ll use more power!)
Fera’s eyes began to glow and this time she was trying to create more than a hundred storms. She was trying to summon more lightning and more destructive wind. She would rip through this cage in an instant and tear Danny’s metallic limb from metallic limb. At least that was her plan.
Instead, the same thing from before took place again and again. No matter how many times she tried to use her power, whatever she tried to create would be destroyed by Danny’s cage the moment it came into existence. Fera was both angry and speechless. It was then that Danny smirked.
“It isn’t your magic that you’re controlling rather it’s the magic in our surroundings, isn’t it?”
Fera’s expression changed.
(This puppet bastard.)
“The fact that you’ve finally gone silent, I can take that as you admitting it.”
Kazuki flew over to Danny’s side.
“Danny, what is this?”
Sasai wished to take back what he said but his stubbornness was in full effect.
“Does it matter? Whatever it is it will surely fail in no time. This is when we retreat!”
Once again Danny ignored Sasai and answered Kazuki instead.
“While everyone was fighting Fera, I was observing her and I was watching how she used her power. Right now, I have her for the most part trapped within this cage of lightning.”
Kazuki used his aura to sense the lightning entrapping Fera and he became both thrilled as well as a little stunned.
“You, you used the 3rd form and you somehow combined it with lightning! Such a thing was possible!?”
Danny gave a nod.
“I had been thinking about this for some time. Kai somehow came up with these sword forms that use the element of wind. At the same time, even though you, Kazuki, can’t use the element of wind, you can mimic the element using your aura, thereby allowing you to use the sword forms. Lightning is the next step up from wind but to go from one to the other with the sword forms, I found something was clearly missing. That something was aura. By using my own aura, I could bridge the gap between wind sword form and upgraded it to a lightning sword form. Which I’ve decided to call Storm Tempest.”
While he was saying all of this, Fera didn’t stop trying to attack the cage. She used everything she could. Wind, lightning, aura gravity but nothing changed. Every single attack of hers was stopped by the lightning cage before it could really get started.
“To think such a thing was possible. For you to actually try it out in the middle of a battle…”
Danny shrugged his metallic shoulders.
“If not now, when. No one else could come up with anything, and we were desperate.”
“Hey, I’m not blaming you. I’m just surprised that something like this could actually stop Fera in her tracks. Can’t she just disappear and create a new body outside of this cage?”
“I’ve thought this through but if she really wished to do it, she could leave those bodies but have you noticed something?”
Kazuki and everyone else looked up at Fera trapped in the cage. Danny didn’t hide what he said and it was easy for Fera to hear the entire conversation, yet she didn’t attempt to leave those fake bodies at all.
“She’s not leaving even though she can, what gives?”
“If she attempts to leave those bodies, the soul fragments she’s split from her actual body and sent here, they will be permanently destroyed and in doing so her real body will have injuries inflicted upon it, or at least her actual soul will receive some damage. My guess is, that’s not something she can afford right now.”
This time it was Etora who had a question.
“How can you be so sure?”
Danny shook his head.
“I can’t be 100%. Not without seeing it first hand but like I said I’ve been observing her and I’m not talking about just this time. The very first time she attacked Kazuki and everyone else near the Abyssal Trench. Glacious had used the severing tempest on Fera and sent her soul or mind back to the dark continent. Fera at that time didn’t return right away as she has been when she faces off against you.”
Etora nodded.
“That’s right. Every time she and I fight, it takes me a while to destroy her but she usually comes back within a few minutes sometimes within seconds. When she fights Glacious though, from what I’ve observed her return takes a bit longer. The time though isn’t that much different though. If she leaves, surely she can simply return within a few minutes like usual, right?”
Danny shook his head.
“No. Glacious, when he uses the 3rd form, he is simply severing part of the energy that makes up her mind/soul fragment. The injury to her soul fragment/mind is actually fairly small. I believe the first few times he used it on Fera, he still didn’t have full control over it and used too much of it, causing her more injury back then. Also, Fera may not have been fully aware of what exactly she was dealing with at that time and made several mistakes whilst confronting Glacious’s new attack. Afterward, I believe she preemptively would send her soul fragment/ mind back, just as Glacious’s unleashed the 3rd form. In that way, she could prevent any damage to herself by going back prematurely. With no injuries, naturally, she could return just as fast as when she faces you. With this cage though, I wouldn’t be simply damaging a small part of her. As I said, this lightning combined with the 3rd form is an upgrade. It would completely destroy the soul fragment she’s sent over here.”
Kazuki looked at the cage of lightning and he came to a realization.
“She can’t send her soul fragment back because of the cage or rather she can but the consequences. That energy that makes up a part of her would have no choice but to pass through the lightning to return but if that happens the fragment will be destroyed immediately. Danny, this is…incredible!”
