Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 66

“KAZUKI! HE’S ALIVE!”

Detra didn’t know how Danny could suddenly reach that conclusion but he wasn’t wrong.

“What brought you to that?”

Detra was genuinely curious.

“So Kazuki really is alive then?”

Detra noded.

“He is.”

Danny’s entire body began to shake in both excitement and joy.

(Kazuki, you clever bastard. You did it, you actually escaped the Miasma. Even in that situation, even when there was seemingly no way out, you still did it. Hehehe, Kazuki, my friend is alive.)

Danny felt better and was happier now at this moment than when he was given a new life and body.

“Are you going to answer me or not?”

Detra’s calm yet sober tone snapped Danny from his euphoria.

“I didn’t really. It was more of a guess but it just makes sense. When you think something is impossible, it is Kazuki who time and time again will prove that notion wrong. I don’t believe in miracles, I just don’t think that way but if I had something called faith, I would have it for Kazuki. When it comes to Fera, the woman is many things. Vile, evil detestable, powerful, and cruel. She rarely becomes distracted though. Someone who is capable of splitting her conscious mind and separately controlling artificial bodies with said split mind. For there to be something to take her attention away, it can only be something she truly was not expecting, something impossible. The moment she sent the Miasma after Kazuki, the moment it surrounded us and sealed us in, that should have spelled our absolute and final doom.”

Detra who had just looked into Danny’s past had witnessed exactly what Danny was talking about. She saw the moment they were trapped and surrounded in every direction by Miasma and she saw how Danny made a cage of lightning that somehow protected them from the outside force. She also watched as Kazuki came up with an idea and implemented it allowing Danny, Asuna, and the rest to escape. Only Kazuki was left behind and trapped. That’s as far as Danny’s memories of that situation went so Detra did not see what happened to Kazuki after but she did in fact see him at the battle between the Ancient Beasts.

Danny continued.

“It was Kazuki who turned the impossible situation into reality. It was Kazuki that showed us a way out.”

Detra didn’t know why she was still listening to this conversation at first. She had originally come down here to hear Danny but then that turned into her basically spilling her guts about her own problems and then into a false hope but now she was starting to become interested, interested in Kazuki. She knew a small amount about Kazuki through observing her son here and there. She already understood that he was related to Fera and at first that only brought feelings of disgust but later she learned that the two were actually mortal enemies and her view of Kazuki became that of neutral.

Besides that though she had no general thoughts about Kazuki. That is until now. The way Danny described Kazuki was almost like a devote follower. Like he was a miracle of the flesh. This of course sounded ridiculous but at the same time, she had witnessed Danny’s memories. Combing through them, she saw Kazuki’s creativity and cleverness time and again as he saved his friends from one horrible, almost impossible situation after another.

Every time they were forced to face against unfavorably terrible no chance in hell odds. Kazuki somehow pulled them out of the shit. When she saw him at the battlefield earlier, she thought nothing of his presence but now with the context of Danny’s memories, it meant that Kazuki had literally just escaped from the Miasma moments before. It once more showed off his ability to do the impossible.

A passing thought drifted through Detra’s mind.

(This Kazuki, for him to be this capable even though he’s only a weak little human. If he were stronger, maybe he could have helped me.)

Detra immediately thought the idea was stupid and tossed it away.

(For me to want a tiny human’s help, how foolish of me. I really am off today. First I come here because a weird Golem insulted me, then I actually hear him out, and instead of leaving right away, I’m the one that ends up chirping like a bird or a chattering monkey. Listening to Danny talk up his friend and then seeing what he’s done from Danny’s memories, I had a glimmer of what could be but that glimmer is something that cannot be. From what I felt on the battlefield, that human called Kazuki is only at the 5th stage. It would take him ten’s of thousand years at least to reach a point in which he had enough power to be capable of doing anything for someone like me. Let alone a task to search the higher realms.)

The thought really was laughable.

“You really admire your friend don’t you?”

A smile stretched across Danny’s metallic face. He was about to go ramble again about Kazuki but then something struck him.

“Detra, you said Kazuki was at the battle.”

Detra nodded.

“Yes.”

Danny’s eyes glowed fiercely as his mind processed things.

“For Kazuki to still not be here, even though he is alive and well, this makes no sense. He knows we went to the front and knows we are in danger. He would have rushed here the moment he got free from the Miasma. He can’t be injured because his regeneration factor is god-like. Fera, the Azirian’s, Torzz, and Zetrazz are all here, which means they are not holding him up. Which means he is holding himself up for some reason.”

(After the battle, why would Kazuki remain and not rush here when Nunully and Asuna are in danger, there must be a reason. Could it be he discovered something on the battlefield, something left behind by one of the Ancient Beasts kings or Glacious? What treasure could they leave behind though that could be so tempting for him to not come and hel…THE BODIES! Could it be, he going to devour them and grow even stronger? YES! This is it, this makes the most sense. Now that he’s destroyed the devouring gate inside of himself and created a new one, the most logical thing would be to eat those beasts and cause his strength to explode upwards. The level he must be trying to reach…)

“Detra, my friend, can you look into him for me?”

Detra’s brows furrowed.

“Look here, I am not someone who will just do favors left and right for anybody. You and I have just met today and you want this and that?”

Danny understood but continued anyway.

“This isn’t just for me but also for your sake.”

Detra didn’t know whether to laugh or be angry.

“For my sake you say, and tell me, just how exactly is this for my sake?”

Danny wasn’t going to expose Kauzki’s secrets and tell her about his abilities but if he was right, then Kazuki should be trying to break into the 6th stage. He guessed that was the reason for the delay.

“My friend, he should currently be trying to break through to the 6th stage, that’s why he hasn’t arrived yet. As for how this relates to you, instead of Glacious doing the favor for you, I guarantee Kazuki will do it for you instead.”

*Ha…Hahahahahaha*

Detra burst out into laughter.

“So that’s what you had to say. How does that help me? Someone at the Mind-Body-Soul Stage is nothing more than an insignificant insect to me. If I wished to do so I could crush such a little creature with a simple stare. This is what you thought could help me, really? Here I thought you actually understood my thoughts to some extent…it seems I’ve overestimated you little Golem.”

Danny remained silent while Detra laughed in his face and talked shit. When she was finally done he spoke calmly, ignoring the insult.

“Everything you said is absolutely correct…right now that is.”

Detra couldn’t help but hold onto the last part of his sentence.

“Right now?”

Danny nodded.

“Yes, right now, your words are correct, there is no denying that at all but what about the future. Kazuki is a young man and yet if he really is breaking through the Mind-Body-Soul stage right now, that would make him the most powerful human in Gordonia.”

“As I said, that strength is weak in my eye. He can do nothing for me.”

“You are not getting what I’m saying. He’s this young and he’s already crossing such a threshold. Maybe he is of no use at this immediate moment but at the current rate he’s going, give him 20-30 years, he may in fact step into the 7th stage at that time. When he reaches that level, I have no doubt he will be on the same level as your sons, if not stronger. Tell me, could you use him then.”

Detra’s eyes widened.

(If Kazuki is really that strong now, then with that type of growth speed, he really could reach that level. Even if he doesn’t get there in 30 years a few more decades after and with some of my help, I could get his power up.)

Detra began to see many possibilities but the main one was her husband’s return. She had waited on Gordonia for eons for any news but was met with only silence. Once again a sliver of hope began to shine.

Danny could see she was really considering this and quickly came in with his proposal.

“Kazuki is the real deal. You saw what he can do in my memories. Given a terrible situation, he has been able to reverse it in his favor again and again. As long as he has time, he will reach a level of power that he can traverse the higher realms and find something out about your husband. All of this for one small thing in exchange.”

Detra looked at Danny.

“In exchange, you want me to take you and the others away from here. You wish for me to save you all?”

Danny had no throat but if he did he would be gulping right now in a nervous fashion.

“Yes, that is what I propose.”
