Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 73
As the tear in space expanded more and more, Torzz could feel his soul ripping and his power being drained from him at a horrendous rate. Every part of him was wrapped in anguish and was absolutely and utterly dominated. He had never felt anything that could be considered fear in the millions of years that he had lived but right now, at this very moment his mother’s power filled him with dread.
“Does my son truly wish to die by my hand?”
Torzz knew his mother was serious and he knew he had made a grave mistake.
(She…Mother will really kill me!)
He lowered his head immediately, avoiding her unmerciful gaze.
“MO…MOTHER!!!… FORGIVE ME!!!”
The power of space churned above him like a river draining underground and the pain on his soul only grew. Just as it seemed as if he would really be sucked into the unknown reaches of space, Detra snapped her fingers.
*SNAP*
The tear in space shook before being sealed and fixed as if it were never there in the first place. Just like that, the soul-crushing feeling, the agonizing pain had vanished without a trace, and his powers were swiftly replenished by the surrounding magical energy.
“I…”
Detra could see the panic in Torzz’s expression and she realized what she had done.
(Did I go too far?)
Detra side-eyed Zetrazz to see if he picked up on Torzz’s big mouth. Her first son almost said something he shouldn’t have, that is the main reason she snapped.
Zetrazz was taken aback but he didn’t seem too curious by Torzz’s words but maybe he simply did not care.
Detra sighed inwardly before unbinding both of her sons, allowing them to move freely.
“I did not come here for this. Sometimes you frustrate mommy to such an extent that mommy has difficulty controlling herself. Watch your words, my son, otherwise, mommy doesn’t know what she would do if she were to lose you.”
Torzz felt the threat in her words and both he and Zetrazz were creeped out by the way she kept referring to herself as mommy. Yes, she was their mother but it didn’t change the fact that at this moment it just felt wrong the way she said it.
Torzz cautiously nodded.
“I…Will not make this mistake twice…mother.”
Zetrazz added in.
“I won’t make that mistake even once, heh.”
Torzz glared at his younger brother but he kept his mouth shut for now. It was clear something was on his mother’s mind now. He didn’t know what would happen if he started a fight in front of her.
“Mother, the reason you came was to what, warn me of Kazuki’s strength.”
“Do you still not trust my words son? Kazuki’s strength is not false.”
Torzz no longer denied it. Even if it seemed utterly impossible, he was not willing to say anything to upset his mother. Instead, he decided to get this conversation over and done with as soon as possible so he played along with it.
“Fine, if you say he has reached the 7th stage then I will not argue that point but why tell me any of this? Even if he has reached the Convergence stage, he is just like a newborn who’s found his fathers sword. His control and powers will be too fresh compared to someone like me who’s had this power for eons. I will kill him the very moment he appears before me. Thanks for the warning mother but I have this under control.”
Detra was disappointed in her idiotic son.
“No. The moment you did not see to personally finishing him off, you lost all semblance of what you would call control. Now he has already reached a place where he will stand on equal footing with you and Zetrazz. I don’t know what agreement you have with Fera but you must not go through with whatever you are planning. I have stayed out of your way and out of your business all of this time but I must tell you this here and now. The siblings are not simple. You know of Fera’s mother and her background, do you really think Kazuki’s background would be so simple?”
“What are you trying to say?”
“I’ve seen Fera with a black compass around her neck and have felt a godly aura within it. At the same time, Kazuki also wears a golden compass around his neck. The feeling within it…There is also present a godly aura. The one in his though is fairly weakened as if someone tried to destroy it and did it half hazardly.”
Detra could see Zetrazz go wide eyed.
“I thought I completely destroyed that aura. How could it escape my detection?”
“It seems both my sons are foolish. In this lower realm, a God’s power may be greatly restricted and reduced but in the end, they are still a God. Their powers are beyond anything we can imagine. No doubt those bastards have their own tricks up their sleeves. It’s not surprising that you were fooled into thinking you destroyed the aura. As a matter of fact, that’s probably what the owner of that aura wanted you to think. I bet you even got a small confidence boost, thinking you did something to a God’s aura. All the while that aura has been watching and observing silently.”
Zetrazz felt slight embarrassment. He was sure he got rid of all of the godly aura leaking from Kazuki’s compass but if his mother said he failed, then he believed her. After all, she had no reason to lie about something like that.
“So you think some Gods may be involved in all of this?”
Detra nodded.
“Fera’s mother was above nearly everyone else in this world besides me and one other person. I looked into the past and I’ve witnessed her descent into this world myself. She is someone from one of the higher realms and knowing her background, she is either a Demi-God or a full God. She gave that black compass to Fera and Kazuki also has a compass with a godly aura. It’s obvious that Gods are watching but it doesn’t necessarily mean they are involved. Otherwise, I would have sensed it by now. No in my opinion they are just observing…for now anyway.”
“There was someone as strong as you and Fera’s mother, who?”
“I don’t know too much about this expert because he was able to block most of my power. I could never look into his past but the man was not hostile. I only ever got his name…Lin. Besides that, I have nothing else on him. He kept fairly quiet and kept out of trouble.”
Zetrazz didn’t care about some guy called Lin who had nothing to do with what they were talking about and went right back to the topic at hand.
“Forget Lin, why would the Gods do that? If Fera’s mother is a God why would she just watch and not help? Someone with that much power would have given even you a run for your money and they would have finished their plans long ago.”
Detra turned to Torzz and said.
“Ask your quiet brother. He seems to know something.”
Zetrazz also turned to Torzz and the three stared at one another before Torzz just spoke.
(If I don’t chime in mother will drag whatever this is out longer. Oh well, it’s not like any of this is a secret I should keep or anything.)
“This is not possible. Fera’s mother cannot interfere with this world or any lower realm world any longer. I only know a few things of what she’s told me but apparently, when she did what she did to Kazuki and his brother, she was forcefully returned back to one of the higher realms and was placed under house arrest.”
Detra nodded.
“See that goes to further show that Kazuki’s background is not so simple. Were he just a normal person with no one backing him, why would Fera’s mother be put under house arrest for killing one human and stealing another’s Mage core, it makes no sense unless Kazuki also has a powerful backing.”
Torzz nodded and continued.
“After she was forced back to a higher realm and placed under house arrest, she didn’t stop. She broke some rules and sent a creature to or something to whatever world Kazuki ended up on. She told me she was caught doing this and would have more privileges taken from her. She would not be able to return to Gordonia nor would she be allowed to use her powers for a certain time. If she did, she would be courting death. This meant she would not be able to contact Fera or anyone else. So before she was locked away fully, she and I came to an agreement and so I have been helping Fera. The compass Fera wears, her mother can directly observe from it. Besides that though, she can not lend her daughter any aid or interfere in any way. Otherwise, she will be killed.”
