【Regina’s POV】

“Your wish is my command, my lord.”

“Wait, don’t leave me he………re………”

Alas, I couldn’t finish my sentence before Samuel vanished, and I was left alone with Solomon.

I was currently in the throne room of Solomon, the Demon King of this world- what was it again? 22B something- the place where Phiria, the Goddess of Life teleported us.

The first thing that happened when we stepped in through the teleportation portal was Solomon kneeling in front of Samuel and calling him ‘Overlord’. Upon further interrogation and a small skirmish, I finally learned that Samuel was the Demon God.

It goes without saying that- I. Refuse. To. Accept. Itttttt!

There’s just no way in hell that that twisted man would be our benevolent Demon God! ‘Show you that I’m your God’, he said as he made my body do his bidding, hmph! The very fact that he had to resort to such measly tactics to make me believe is enough proof that he is not my God! I’m sure he must have used his mysterious powers to make me do those things! Or perhaps it was Phiria who was controlling my body!

“It seems you’re still not ready to accept the truth.”

Solomon suddenly brought me back from my thoughts.

“There wasn’t any truth to begin with.”

“Tch, if not for his excellency….” He clicked his tongue and then sighed. “Forget it. Lord Hayden has ordered me not to forcefully change your opinions, and as much as it pains me, his orders are absolute.”

He seemed truly exasperated and conflicted over having to follow that ‘order’.

“Is it really necessary for you to follow that order?”

But, even if Samuel is not the Demon God, the anomaly in front of me, Solomon, still cannot be explained.

“Because, unlike you, I know that he is my God.” He turned towards the entrance to the throne room and muttered. “And she was supposed to be the second in command too……”

Haa?

“Second in command? Of what?”

“You really don’t know anything, do you?”

He asked without looking or stopping his legs. And since I didn’t have any other choice, I also followed him.

“Well, I do know that Samuel is a monster.”

A really terrifying monster. That day still feels like a horrible dream; the fact that I’m still alive only adding to that.

“A monster?” He furrowed his brows. “What makes you say that?”

“I……” My tongue froze as I remembered that sensation. “I….. used the ‘Eyes of the Fate’ to see his fate. Believe me, he is not a God or anything, he is….just a plain monster.”

“Kukukuku.” But Solomon only snickered. “Tell me, what exactly did you see?”

What did I see? How should I say it? Can I even describe it with words alone?

“That he is the end of fate.”

“Aah, I see.” He said, as if he had understood something. “Lord Hayden must have used the power of the Hell Guards.”

“Hell Guards?”

“Hmmm, in the simplest of terms, they are the administrators of this universe. They govern over everything in this universe.”

“Weren’t the Gods supposed to do it?”

“The Gods?” He scoffed. “The Gods are mere employees working under them. All the major decisions are made by the Hell Guards; if they wanted it, then they could end every single life in this universe.”

“Every, single, life…..?”

Wait! Does that mean?!

“Then Samuel-”

“He is not a Hell Guard, of course, and he has no interest in ending every single life, but he has usurped one.”

He smiled viciously.

“U-usurped….? What do you mean?”

“Ah, that is a very long story, and to be frank, even I don’t know everything. The only ones who do are Lord Hayden, and perhaps Lord Hargreave.”

“Hargreave? Are you talking about Jack Hargreave? Where did that obnoxious man come from?”

He stopped walking for a moment and looked at me with an incredulous expression, then resumed, his pace a bit slower than before.

“You actually have a death wish, right?”

Now what? Is Jack also his God or something?

“W-what happened?”

“Lord Hargreave isn’t someone you can speak so casually about. If he so desired, he could kill you with just a swing of his hand.”

“S-stop exaggerating-”

“I’m not. It is you who are grossly underestimating him. His existence is as special as the Hell Guards.”

…………

“Is he an administrator too?”

“No.” He shook his head defeatedly. “Ah, have you been to God’s Realm yet?”

Huh? Where did that come from?

“We came here straight from there.”

“Then let me say it in this way; it was Lord Hargreave who laid the foundation of God’s Realm.”

“Sooooo, he created that place?”

Is he an architect?

“Meteron was the one who created that place.”

“And now who is Meteron?”

Another God?

Solomon suddenly stopped walking and finally turned to me with a vicious smile on his face, as if he had been waiting for me to ask that question.

“The God of Space-Time, Meteron Lockheart. One of the oldest Gods, he-”

He stopped for a moment, and I gulped.

“Is our enemy.”

【Chloe’s POV】

“All right, that’s enough for today.”

The signal indicating the end of our duel came just before my rapier stabbed Cornellia and her staff clobbered my head.

“Aah, I’m beat.”

Cornellia waved her hands tiredly and plopped on the ground with a thud.

“Good work, both of you.” Susan came from the side and handed both of us towels to wipe our sweat. “I can already see the progress.”

“Yeah…” Cornellia gazed at her staff, ‘Tempus La Custos’, with a slight smile, and then muttered. “If it’s with this, even I can be useful to Sam.”

And then her face blossomed into a smile as beautiful as a flower.

“Cornellia…..” I gulped.

“E-eh? What happened, Chloe? Why are you making that scary expression?”

She asked as she edged back a bit.

“Do you, perhaps, like Sam?”

Her eyes widened for a moment, and then a sigh escaped her lips.

“Well………… I do.” And then she started waving her hands frantically. “Ah, but don’t worry! I’ve already been rejected by him! So you don’t need to concern yourself with me…..”

Then she sighed heavily again and her head drooped down.

“Eh, what?!” Susan closed in on Cornellia. “When?!”

“Well, it happened before the Holy War.” She stood up. “I confessed, and was ruthlessly rejected. Seriously, he didn’t even mince his words.”

She smiled awkwardly, and so did Susan.

“I see. Sorry for making you remember something so tragic.”

“T-tragic………? Well, don’t worry. It’s not like I have given up yet. Sam still has his promise to fulfil after all.”

What?!

“What?!”

“What’s with that shout, Susan?”

“Forget that!” She shook Cornellia’s shoulders hard. “What do you mean by a promise?!”

Yeah, I want to know that too!

“Ahhh, that…………” She averted her gaze. “It’s a secret!”

She stuck out her tongue and got herself free from Susan’s hold. As she walked off to rest beneath the tree’s shade, Susan turned to me.

“W-what should we do, Chloe? We have got one more competitor………”

“I-I don’t know, Susan.”

I really… don’t know. Like, before worrying about who Sam choses, we have to make sure that he is the Sam that we fell in love with. We have to stop him from going down that path before he does something irrevocable.

I have been wanting to discuss this issue with Susan- the more hands we have the easier it could be- but haven’t been able to find the opportunity to.

“Listen Susan, about Sam-”

“All right everyone, gather around!”

But before I could say anything, another voice that stopped our match earlier interrupted. Rachel, the angel-cum-secretary of Goddess Phiria, was asking us to assemble.

“You were saying something?”

“It’s nothing.” I brushed her off. “Let’s go.”

And so we- me, Susan and Cornellia- gathered in front of Ms. Rachel.

“The time I told you about has come.” She started. “His excellency demands your presence.”

“Umm.” Susan raised her hand. “Who exactly is ‘His excellency’?”

“You’ll know when you meet him. Follow me.”

She turned around with that. The white wings on her back swaying slightly with every step she took, we followed in silence behind her. Walking through corridor after corridor, we finally arrived in front of a large gate. The gate was already open, as if it was welcoming us.

“He is waiting for us inside. Remember what I taught you.”

We nodded and followed her into the throne room. In front of me was a large throne situated atop a pedestal, and someone was seated on it. However, I could not make out his figure because of the shadow casted by the throne on his face due to the white light from behind.

Rachel immediately kneeled as she neared him, and we followed suit.

The regal aura lingering in the air gently pressed down on our backs as we kneeled. It contained not a hint of hostility or hubris; it was full of benevolence and majesty, as if seeking to cleanse our souls.

But before we could say anything, another voice spoke up.

“It’s been some time, Lord-”

“You need not bow before me, Lady Shiggurath.”

But before Shiggurath could finish her sentence, another voice, gentle as the soft wind caressing my face and as charming as the music of an opera, belonging to the man on the throne, stopped her.

“But you are a king now, and I’m just a normal dragon. So-”

“But that doesn’t change the fact that you are my senior, both in age and experience. Really, all I have for you is respect, Lady Shiggurath. So please treat me as your equal; I cannot settle for anything less.”

The King of this place is comparing himself to Shiggurath?! Just who is she really?!

“Seriously…………” She sighed. “You remain stubborn in the strangest of places. Fine.”

“Thank you for your understanding.” I could feel that the man was smiling. “Now. Please raise your heads, everyone.”

He spoke, and we complied.

His face was still hidden by the shadow from the throne, but somehow, I could feel that his smile had widened.

“Pleased to make your acquaintance, Heroes.”

His eyes shone with a golden hue, and suddenly, a shiver born of primal fear ran down my spine.

“I’m the King of Gods, Meteron Lockheart.”
