【3rd person’s POV】

In a large mansion located in the area reserved for the Nobles of this country, a man was going through some documents in his office.

This would be a pretty normal sight- many Nobles liked to work in the private offices in their mansions- if not for the bandages on this man’s head and left arm.

This man’s head was neatly wrapped up in a white bandage with a yellowish spot on the left side, while his arm was hung in a cast.

Just then, someone knocked twice on the door of this man’s office. After some moments, a man entered the office with a folder in his hand.

Upon this man’s arrival, the Noble put down his pen and paper and leaned back into his chair.

“So, what did you find?” The Noble, Count Vindalo, asked his trustworthy butler.

“I have found everything you asked me to find about them,” the butler confidently replied as he set the folder on the desk.

“Let’s hear it, then,” Count Vindalo replied as he picked up the folder and opened it.

“Let’s start with the girl,” the butler tensed a bit; he knew that it wouldn’t end well for him if the information he collected wasn’t satisfactory. “Sherry Liebert is one of the Heroes who have been summoned into this world.”

“I see.”

“Her main roles are healing and support. However, when push comes to shove, she is known to be able to fight as the vanguard, mercilessly decimating enemies with her sword.”

“That explains some things,” the count nodded as he looked back to the events of the previous day.

For a Support, Sherry seemed a little too eager to get physical with him. Turns out, she was a capable fighter as well.

“We can also infer that she holds considerable influence among the Heroes. Her authority is second only to Michael, their leader, and their instructor. Her leadership qualities are far above Michael, making her the glue that holds the Heroes together.”

“Hoooh,” the Count’s eyes narrowed.

Even if the results of his… approach yesterday were staggeringly disastrous, he had chosen the right target.

Looking back at it, it would seem Sherry had misunderstood his intentions which led to events that followed.

Sam 2.0 was right; Sherry really was a bigshot, in more ways than one.

“Go on,” the Count nodded.

“Not much else is known about her, unfortunately, as is the case with Heroes,” the butler said in an apologetic tone. “The Princesses’ hold on information related to them is too strong.”

“…Really? Is that it?” The Count frowned. “Tell me, what’s the point of hiring you if your intelligence is redundant?”

The Count already knew everything that the butler just told him.

“W-well, there is one more thing. It seems that on every 4th night of the month, Sherry goes out somewhere alone. She doesn’t come back till morning.”

“Every 4th night of the month, that too alone?” The count raised his eyebrows at the information he didn’t have. “And where does she go?”

“We have not been able to determine that, sir. However, we are sure that she goes out alone every time.”

“Hmmm,” the Count rubbed his chin. “Interesting. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but is it not the 4th tomorrow?”

“Yes, it is, sir.”

“Marvellous. Now then, what about the man I told you about?”

“Yes!” The butler’s vigour was revitalised. “The man who dared to lay a hand on you is a Ruby ranked Adventurer named Samael.”

“A Ruby Adventurer was with Sherry? What has the world come to?”

The difference in status was too great to make sense of their relationship.

‘Wait, Samael?’ The Count furrowed his brows. ‘I seem to have heard this name somewhere.’

“Well, that’s because even if his rank is only Ruby, he’s at least stronger than Michael, the leader of the Heroes. Some even believe that his strength is superior to Lantz.”

“Stronger than Lantz?” The Count’s eyes widened.

“That is because Samael is in possession of at least one strategic class magic spell which is strong enough to wipe out this entire duchy as well as the forest surrounding it,” the butler paused for some moments. “Those who witnessed it first-hand claimed that the spell was Heaven’s Wrath incarnate. It… it reminded them of the Scorched Heaven.”

‘Scorched Heaven…’ The Count still remembered the day when a second sun appeared in the sky.

“Ah, Samael!” The Count lightly hit his hand on the table. “No wonder the name seemed so familiar! Isn’t he the fiancé of Cecile?”

“To be more precise, he’s the man she has been known to pursue as a love interest. He even met His Majesty recently regarding this matter.”

“Right, right,” he nodded.

“My sources say that not only is he nonsensically strong, he’s also extremely ruthless. He’s the current instructor of the Heroes. On their first training session, he challenged the Heroes to a fight and absolutely demolished them.”

“Absolutely?”

“Absolutely, sir. It wasn’t even close. The 37 Heroes fought him together yet were beaten up so thoroughly that you’d think they fought for their lives against endless legions of demons. By the end, all of them were close to death, which brings us to his companion, Mary.”

“Who is she?”

“Mary is a healer. She was there when Samael destroyed the Heroes. When he was done, she healed them all to perfect health with just a swing of her hand.”

“Of course,” the Count sighed, seemingly fed up with Samael and his bullshit.

“And that’s not all. He also has a Dragon and an elf as his companions.”

“…So not only has he managed to tame a Dragon, the epitome of strength, but also has an elf by his side, who haven’t been seen for the last five centuries?”

“Yes, sir. Oh, and the Dark Hero, Serasta La Graes, too.”

“What the fuck?” The Count stood up from his chair.

“Sir?!” The butler almost fell over his butt.

“No, seriously, the Dark Hero as well? The Dark Hero, who wiped out half of our army and killed three of the Commanders simply to quench her hatred for us humans? You are telling me he has that monster by his side?”

“It would seem that way, sir.”

“What the hell is this guy thinking? Is he alright in the mind?” The Count frowned. “No, he cannot be. This man is a fucking maniac.”

“It appears they are in a slave contract, sir.”

‘As if a mere slave contract would be enough to keep her bound! And if somehow, she was to learn of that… God help us all…’ The Count cursed in his mind.

“…Well, you know what?”

“What, sir?”

“Ready our finest men for tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow… you don’t mean?” The butler’s eyes widened.

“Yes. Keep watch on Lady Elizabeth’s mansion. Once Sherry leaves the compound alone… capture her.”

‘I tried to be diplomatic, tactful and patient with her, but as expected, the brutes do not understand the language of reason. If force is what she understands, force is what she will get,’ the Count concluded in his mind.

“Would that be wise, sir?” While fearing the wrath of his master, the butler still dared ask that question. “Will Lady Elizabeth agree to this?”

“Have you forgotten the rules of our Council, Butler?” The Count’s eyes narrowed.

“…Any humiliation must be paid back in double, no matter who the culprit is.”

“Correct. I was disgraced right in the middle of the market; humiliated in front of the commoners. The council will side with me on this one. Even Lady Elizabeth cannot go against the Council by herself.”

“And what about Samael?”

“We are not going to involve ourselves with him for the time being,” the Count replied in a matter-of-fact tone. “He’s simply too dangerous to take on without a proper plan. For now, I’ll settle my score with Sherry.”

“As you will, sir.”

“Needless to say, the men you choose should not be able to be traced back to us. Oh, and instruct them to back off if they smell even the slightest whiff of conspiracy.”

“Conspiracy, sir?”

“We cannot ignore the possibility that this is all a setup by the Third Princess. You know she would love to have our head beneath her foot,” the Count rolled his eyes.

“Understood, sir. I’ll send the Blue Moon for this job.”

“Hmm, the Blue Moon would do just fine,” the Count nodded. “You may leave now.”

“Yes, sir.” The butler left as instructed to complete the tasks given to him.

The Count spun on his chair to look outside the window at the moon that was shining so brightly in the night.

‘Just you wait, Sherry,’ the count couldn’t help but smile to himself. ‘I’ll make sure you and Samael pay for the humiliation you have shown me.’
