ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 352 Part 1
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 352: Dragon! Dragon! Part 17 Part 1
Even though some stronger creatures may perceive you as nothing more but an insect, there are times when even insects can be dangerous and deadly. Take wasps, for example. They are small, but their needles are poisonous. And that fact alone causes the bigger and stronger creatures to be wary of them. …… Sound logic, right?
And it just so happens that when it comes to R.I.P, its power and threat potential must have been big enough for the Great Red Devourer to become wary of it. Because after only one swing with all of my might, the monster’s aggro was directed right at me.
The red tornado shakes and sways, as if something inside of it was swelling and growing. The result of that process was a bright red cow with overly developed muscles. Then the Great Red Devourer let out an inorganic roar imitating the real thing, and it shot that overgrown cow right at me from inside of the red tornado.
「What a great gift, with so well packed up meat…… This thing is ideal for a punching bag!」
Seeing the incoming projectile, I activated the “Hecaton’s Edge” and assumed battle position. Then I simply moved Aradval Rebuild to intercept the cow, effectively cleaving it in half and exposing the bright red muscle fibers of its insides.
「Alright! With first hit!」
And if you add the swing from the Blue Predator here, you can chop the cow in even smaller pieces, almost making hamburgers out of her. Long live two hit attacks!
「And I’m not done yet! There’s still more when that came from!」
I made another strike with Aradval Rebuild. And then I made another strike with Blue Predator. And then another with Aradval Rebuild and another with Blue Predator. I was slashing the cow all the way until eight hits. Then the combo counter just kept on increasing to sixteen, thirty two and sixty four consecutive hits. It’s a shame that the maximum number of consecutive slashes for this ability is one hundred and not one hundred and twenty eight, but oh well…… At least the very last strike should pack some extra punch here.
However, being able to make one hundred slashes here is good, but it is not the true worth and value of this skill. We will get to that later, when we combine that with a certain other skill. Until then, let’s have some fun.
「Come on, bull! Can’t you see the red cloth that the matador is waving at you!?」
Saying that, I picked the hem of skirt with my hands and made a slight courtesy just like that. And as it turned out, it was quite effective action in terms of provoking the enemy. The remaining parts of the red cow begin to swell and grow, as if there were balloons inside of them that were being pumped full of air at this moment. Then, in a single moment the remains of the cow charged right at me with a speed of a vehicle with a rocket engine strapped to it.
That speed was so fast that even I, someone who was aware that the cow was going to charge at me, barely managed to dodge at the last possible moment. …… And that is to say, that speed was so fast even with the “Moment’s Site” being activated, which slows the world around me. But, as long as I was able to dodge it, it was all right in my book.
Right now I possess two skills that have similar performance to themselves: Moment’s sight and Quantum Gaze. They are kind of similar, but the differences lie in the way they allow the player to interact with the world around them during their effects being active.
But that of course is not the only skill that improved in my case.
「It would be nice to be able to see into the future, huh……!?」
Inside of my field of view I can clearly see a bright red “wave”. I can see the hind legs of the red cow, and something resembling a wind coming off of them. And then there was something with other colors, coming from the cow’s body. This is the “attack wave”, visualized by Quantum Gaze’s ability of “true world observation”.
In other words, it is the ability that lets me see what kind of attack the enemy is presumably going to use and the reach of said attack as well.
This effect is something that is utterly useless against enemy attacks that are meant to be instant kills in nature, but it is very useful when it comes to simple physical attacks. The timing of predictions is not perfect here, and I have little to no idea about the inner working of this skill, but one thing is for sure here: this skill is almost like a future prediction.
「Now then…… To get things over with fast, I’m going to make skewers out of you. This will be a nice change of pace here!」
My stamina was only slightly reduced, and the effect of the “Hecaton’s Edge”, the one hundred consecutive strikes, still linger in my swords. And right now, this is the exact moment for this skill to shine with its full potential!
Looking back at the red cow, its eyes are all red, but there was no trace of emotion in them. But that inorganic property was going to be its undoing: the inability to feel fear of death or impeding doom.
「EIKETSU TENSEI!!!」」
The offensive skill Ichinen Iwata and its natural evolution. Before the natural evolution, it was the skill that increased the attack power based on a number of different conditions, but that is the thing of the past now. Right now it is a skill that rewards the late activation of skill in the sequence of attacks. Making long story short: the less Stamina you have, the more firepower you are going to receive as a result.
Now, here is the actual question: what is going to happen if you are to hit the red cow with the ninety nine attacks and land the last one, but with its power severely improved?
Let us go and see for ourselves in just a moment.
The last attack the one with its attack power increased to the limit, connect with the cow’s head and pierces its forehead. At that exact moment, there is a damage effect shaped like a flower blooming at the exact connection point.
I had no time to look behind me, so there was no way for me to actually see if that one last blow was made by the muscular giant with hundred arms. However, even if there was no giant behind me, the force that connected to the cow’s head surely was giant-level, and it disappeared as soon as it appeared.
「See? That’s what you get when you neglect avoidance and you don’t pay attention to your surroundings.」
That last attack was more than enough to deplete the cow’s HP bar to zero, and for the moment out there its body dispersed into a vortex of red mist. However, the way that vortex of red mist behaved was different from the death animation and the damage effect that would accompany it.
It was at that moment that my hypothesis turned into conviction.
