ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 391 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 391: Side Story 9 – Upward Compatibility While Looking Up – Part 1

* * *

There is a certain player in this game called Imron. That player is a Blacksmith by profession, and as far as that goes, that player managed to achieve the highest possible rank of that profession, called “Master”. What’s more, in addition to all of that, Imron is famous throughout the player base because she possesses the Holy Hammer Mjolnir, the ultimate blacksmithing tool.

To put things into perspective, each legendary weapon has some really hard condition that the player must satisfy in order to obtain that weapon. For example, if you wanted to obtain the Legendary Holy Sword Excalibur, you had to venture into a high level dungeon and go through it until you have found a secret area where the sword was being kept. You also had to defeat hordes of high level monsters roaming the place and deadly traps that were set there. Oh, and of course you had to do all of that while playing solo.

Here is another example: the Legendary Holy Spear Caledwolf originally appeared when a whole bunch of high-leveled players gathered at one time in a particular location. However, the condition for obtaining it was but one, but it was also really specific: the players were supposed to start killing one another, and the last man standing at the end of this brutal Player Versus Player session would claim the ownership of the spear.

So if we follow up on that logic, what would the conditions for obtaining Mjolnir be? Let us think about it for a moment.

When it comes to Mjolnir, here in this game its whole reason for existing was not about slaying monster, but making weapons and items exclusively…… and that’s about it, believe it or don’t. And when it comes to the requirements for its acquisition, being the “Master” at blacksmithing was not one of them at all. Also, it does not even matter what level your avatar possess. It’s all without meaning in this particular case.

That being said, the item itself was indeed located inside of a high level dungeon with a whole lot of powerful and deadly monsters roaming about the place. So you needed to possess at least the minimum level of strength needed to traverse this particular obstacle without much of an issue.

Was it about possessing unrivaled strength like no other player, big enough to let one slay monster with ease and stand at the very top? No, that’s not it.

Was it all about how fast were one able to make new items and weapons? No, that’s not it, either.

The trait that the Holy Hammer Mjolnir was looking for in its user was really simple: it was sincerity.

It does not matter if you are ripped to shreds by monsters. Or if you end up getting poisoned. Or if you hit your head and die. Or if you end up falling inside of a pitfall. Things like that would matter when it comes to all other legendary weapons, but here it was all unrelated.

Only a person whose heart was truly sincere would be deemed worthy of wielding the Mjolnir. Anything else would be met with the inability to acquire the item in the first place.

Those were more or less the words that were inscribed on the walls of the deepest cave in which the Mjolnir was laying, enshrined and waiting for the one who would be worthy of wielding it.

To put it simply, the way in which one was to obtain Mjolnir is a form of a “Test of Courage” here. Needless to say, may blacksmiths managed to find the right place and traverse through it only to be broken by it and go back home empty-handed. …… All until on one day, a lone player sitting on only level forty five managed to successfully finish all the trials and obtain the legendary item. And there was no way that anyone would dare to accuse that person of cheating or cutting corners: for accomplishing such magnificent feature, everyone recognized her as the true owner of the hammer and no one would even dare to question the matter. It was a reward obtained with the strength of one’s spirit and convictions.

A monster who causes people to writhe in disgust on a psychological level. A monster who uses cruel attack and strategies in order to get what she wants. A player who can penetrate steel to its very core and mold it however she wanted. A player who can disregard all else and give it her everything for the sake of her beloved blacksmithing…… The name of such an entity is Imron.

「WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT ME TO MAKE YOU A WEAPON I DO NOT KNOW USING THE MATERIALS I DO NOT KNOW!?」

Such a monster of a player was laying flat on the ground right in front of Saiga-0, flailing her arms and legs around, throwing a temper tantrum just like a small child would. It was certainly an interesting sight, one that you would not actually expect from someone of such reputation as her.

「To begin with, what in the bloody hell is even a Legacy Weapon, huh!? First time I have ever heard of it! So don’t think that I am going to be able to make something that I do not know! I don’t know, so it’s impossible! Don’t ask me for impossible, if you know that it is impossible!!!」

「Ahh, umm, if you want me to explain it, I can try to do that! Umm, you see, a legacy weapon is something that is basically……」

「Wait just a moment here! After all, I am the blacksmith chosen by the Holy Hammer Mjolnir, so I must at least try to guess that that blasted thing is supposed to be! Otherwise I would bring shame both to the Mjolnir and my own name as well! Now that you mention it, I think I get it! I know what it is all about! It’s that type of weapon that changes its category upon strengthening to the max, right!? So the base should a weapon from the Era of the Gods, right!?」

「No, no it is not. You couldn’t have been more off the mark than you are now.」

「HAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!」

The player with the appearance of tha middle-aged man and the voice of a woman started to flail about once again, raising question about their sanity. Also, seeing the ultimate craftsman act like that was certainly an experience that no one would even expect here. Especially not the temper tantrums. Looking down at Imron, Saiga-0 was actually staring to wonder if her memories were not deceiving her here. She was sure that if the person her sister managed to negotiate into cooperating with Black Wolves was having such quirks as the ones before her, she would certainly remember that. Or the fact that her sister would have mentioned that as well.

Also, if her memory was serving her correctly, it seems that this girl was communicating mostly via Roleplaying, much like Saint Shield’s Territory and the personal guards of the Saint Iristella.
