ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 395: Side Story 11 – Laughing Fixer – Part 2

「I’m fine with the fact that you have agreed so quickly here, but are you sure about this? Ah, but just so you know, we are only dealing with information here, nothing else. So don’t expect some sort of a Unique Weapon as a reward, alright?」

「That’s basically archaeology for you. You receive a word that the treasure might be buried somewhere, and you have no choice but do go there and start digging. You might not find anything worthwhile, but the process of getting there is a reward in and out of itself. It’s part of the experience.」

After having secured the cooperation of the Library, 10 PM Army and SF-Zoo, Pencilgton turns towards the last remaining two guests here: Joset and Saiga-100. This is where the hard part would start.

「As for Momo-chan, I can offer you my undying and loyal friendship until the end of time…… Ah, wait! Wait just a god damn minute! It was a joke! A joke, I tell you! Call it a Pencilgton’s trademark joke! Let’s forget about it for now, hmm? Let’s erase it from existence! Yeah, let’s do just that! So don’t leave! You want to know what this is all about, aren’t you!?」

「I’m sure that you are only going to tell us what is the most convenient for you, aren’t you……? So? What’s this all about? Mind you, I’m going to hear you out, and only make my decision AFTER I hear what you have to say here.」

「Oh, yeah! But before that, the Sacred Shield’s Territory! The Saint-chan’s guards! You guys are always so uptight and only about you raison d’etre here, so what I have to show you is surely going to be rather refreshing. Are you fine with me showing it to you afterwards, as well?」

「Sure thing, I don’t really mind.」

After hearing that answer, Pencilgton returned to her position, and after making sure that all eyes were currently looking at her, she started to explain her ploy to the other five big shots, as well as their entourages that followed them here.

「To make the long story short: I want us to go and defeat “Siegwurm, the Heavenly Emperor”.」

This would mean one thing: an open act of rebellion against the mainstream of this game. It would also put every party involved at odds with the Anti-Noirlind Faction. In the end, each of the representatives gathered here agreed to take part in this endeavor, however, their each individual reaction was a little bit different.

「I see, I understand. Small wonder that the Tempura Knights were so negative towards taking part in this meeting and joining us. After all, they are the core members of the Anti-Noirlind faction, so it would be weird for them to change fronts like that all of a sudden.」

「That’s right, that’s right. They are not weak, but in the end they were all overrun by Noirlind’s raw power. So it is understandable that they want to take revenge for him humiliating them like that. …… Besides, if we are already talking about it, making an endevour like that is sure to be really expensive, right? Talking about items and equipment for a whole lot of people.」

Hearing the Professor’s words, Pencilgton answers with a bitter smile on her lips. Then, her smile changes as she turns towards the deputy representative of the 10 P.M Army.

「Believe me, I am aware of that fact…… The fact that there are quite a few people amongst the ranks of 10 PM Army who wants to have a go at challenging the Unique Monsters……」

「Guh, well, this is…… Yes, I guess that…… you are correct in stating that.」

「While it is true that the Colored Dragons are also the part of this particular Unique Scenario, but…… Are we really satisfied with something that can best categorized as a mere “substitute”? This is just a game, so it would be correct to state that challenging Siegwurm is also part of its fun, right? Denying ourselves of that fun would just feel wrong to me. So I think that there is no reason for us not to want ot challenge Siegwurm, now is there……?」

「Kuh…… Even though there is some truth to the words that this woman is speaking, but why do I feel like those are just the words of a scammer who feeds you rumors and lies whilst masquerading them as truths……」

「Huh? Now where would you even hear something like that? I pride myself in being an honest, good-hearted and sincere of a person, you know?」

「Huh……?」

Perhaps it was due the pressure that the smiling Pencilgton was emitting, but no one dared to say anything more on that particular subject. Now then, having sown the initial seeds, Pencilgton turned towards the Professor and Saiga-100, a bright smile still plastered onto her face.

「You guys were our comrades during the Kutanid of the Abyss’s battle. So you know just how good the benefits from challenging the Unique Monster can be. And looking at the “Delusion” form of Kutanid, we might not be able to obtain the World Truth Book from this quest if we only choose the substitute route. What do you think of that?」

「I would like to say that it does not matter to us at all…… We, the Library, think that the World Truth Book shall be given to us regardless of which path we decide to take in here. So we are fine with taking down Siegworm, or the Colored Dragons.”

「Hoo, hmm……?」

The Professor stood up from his seat and started walking around the store, his shoes ringing with each of his step.

「As far as the World Quests are concerned, we only know from the information gathered so far that their requirement is the defeat of the Unique Monsters. But this time around, the conditions for clearing the World Quest seem to be directly linked with the Unique Scenario that accompanies it. Originally, Kutanid of the Abyss was supposed to be a monster that you would encounter while being on your way towards the new continent. Following that logic, it should technically be the first Unique Monster that the players were supposed to encounter and defeat……」

「Umm, Professor? Sorry to say that, but do you think that you could cut to the chase here? That would be great.」

Hearing that request coming foem Joset, the Professor scratched his head and went into thought for a moment. Then he said: “I don’t usually do things that way, but if that’s what you want……”
「I honestly think that the World Quest is going to proceed further regardless of the fact if we decided to take down the Colored Dragons or the Siegwurm himself. Of course, the same principle is most probably going to be applied to the World Truth Books. However, I advise you to stop for a moment and think about this carefully: which branch of the World Quest we want to go down with? Because our Guild is set on believing that depending on our decision here, the following storyline may greatly vary in difficulty. And surely it is not all that unbelievable of a reasoning, right?」

It may not be enough of a reason to willingly decline the easier path or the better rewards, but still the Professor sat down there in silence, pondering what Pencilgton just said carefully.

But still, Pencilgton kept on smiling with that fearless smile of hers, as if everything was going just the way she palnned for it to go. Truth to be told, she was unsure whether or not this here hound would be willing to play along, but that was apparently no longer an issue. Deep down inside, she let out a sigh of relief.

「Oh well, let’s just continue with the talks. After all, it is important for us to be ready for the festival that is about to come in the future.」
