ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 406: The Majesty of the Crown Part 1

For the time being, since I was unable to come up with any good ideas about what to do right now, I have decided to at least try to give my economy a boost. If I happen to die in one shot, so be it. Blame my thoughts for being so messy that no good ideas were actually coming.

「For the time being, what to do about that blasted scorpion? Three way is obviously out of the question here, since it is a three way with a Crystal Scorpion we are talking about here……」

What’s more, its laser attack is something that can hardly be avoided or deflected, not to mention that it is impossible to read its trajectory beforehand. You can only do that when the laser is already coming your way. How does it even do that? Shoots it from its mouth? Or maybe it aims with the tip of its tail? No, but then…… still…… Hm?

That lines sounded like something an insect hater would say the moment they have seen a cicada entering their field of view. Honestly, what the hell?

「Question: why would you willingly venture into a situation where the probability of your death is nothing else but certain? You should be aware of the enemy’s strength and your own characteristics, so why would you choose to do something like that?」

「Hmm? Oh, you’re asking about something like that? Umm, I dunno man…… I guess it’s all about that thing, you know? That thing.」

「Your eyeballs show signs of unnatural movements. Could you look your partner straight in the eyes when you talk to them? And not avoid looking at them?」

Kuh…… For a someone who seems to be downright useless combat-wise, this piece of junk has quite a cheeky mouth to it, huh? However, don’t let this piece of junk provoke you, stay calm here. You know, it’s that thing…… you know what. Yeah, I need to come up with something here really quick.

「Yeah, about that…… This might actually sound a little bit ridiculous to you, but I would like to ask a question about how exactly does this place tend to work.」

「This place right here?」

「Negative, non, non. This here place is the Sigmania Valley, otherwise known as Sigmania Frontline.」

Sigmania…… huh? So, who would have thought that this place actually has a name?

「But isn’t this whole area basically a hollowed out wasteland? I mean, aside from this thing right here, which I presume it’s in its dead center? Honestly, this whole place looks like as if the spiders were waging war on the centipedes in order for one of them to get in control of this cliff, which looks just like a precious gemstone from afar.」

「Actually the respective names of those two species happen to be: Faultless Gargantua and Treinor Centipede Gustav.」

「Whoa, that’s long! Way too long! It’s inconvenient! When you want to explain a situation, simplicity is best! So I shall refer to them as spiders and centipedes!」

What a strange story this is. Two species of monsters fighting against one another for control over something. Normally I would call such a concept crazy and incomprehensible, but I have seen a whole lot stranger things in this game during my playtime. However, it is still quite strange that two monster species would compete for the rule over a place like this one. Was there any reason behind it?

And besides, is there any reason for competing over the area that is already being controlled by Crystal Scorpions? Because no matter what, I think it’s impossible for the spiders and centipedes to go against the scorpion lasers.

Another strange thing here is that both spiders and centipedes do not attack the cliff itself. I mean, it would make sense, right? If you are competing for some specific area to just go there and claim it for yourself. So there really must be some kind of a reason for that to be the case. But just what would that reason be here? …… And just as I thought about that.

「Alright, if we want to leave this place, then we must simply subjugate all of the spiders and centipedes. Sounds about right? Then I guess we should get to work here, Sammy-chan can help as well. I mean, the piece of junk is welcome to give us a hand as well, for as long as it won’t get in the way too much.」

「Human beings surely are primitive, are they not……? To not be able to fully grasp the glory and splendor of a creation that combines both collective intelligence and cutting edge technology, instead calling it a piece of junk.」

「Intelligence can only get you so far in battle, you know? You need to actually possess firepower as well if you want to make full use of that cutting edge tech.」

I have heard from it that the reason it crash landed where it did was the result of it trying to escape from the dragon of some sort. However, it ended up in that cave because parts of its system malfunctioned and it was unable to choose a better location to crush into.

「Kuh…… If only we were being taken care of properly and received appropriate maintenances on the regular basis, with our supreme intelligence and armaments we would have overthrown the primitive human beings in a flash! But now it will never happen! Gigigi!!!」

Whoa there, you piece of junk! You’d better floor the breaks here before you go too far with that logic of yours!

Alright, back to the subject at hand. Because now I managed to obtain a save spot, I decided to erect the tent in the cave and with its limited amount of uses try to go up the cliff to see if I would be able to harness some of its resources for myself here.

And as it turned out my heart was pierced by the scorpion laser almost instantly when I tried to go there, so there we have it. I knew that this is going to be one heck of a climb, but come on!

A crown lens that can only be obtained by mining at the top of Sigmonia Frontline Valley, the Shining Tower Hill.

This crystal, which is considered to be a variant of the Lapisteria Star Crystal, has the ability of changing the properties of the magical power accumulated inside to something completely different when exposed to sunlight or moonlight. And the most important thing of the flavor text is this: “spread different magical power around when exposed to sunlight or moonlight”. Perhaps this is the exact key that is needed to get rid of the spiders and centipedes.

「I knew it, there has to be a trick behind that huge energy consumption. Otherwise it would literally make no sense at all.」

Defeating other monsters absorbing their energy may help you fight hunger and refuel your energy, but…… with a vicious cycle like it would be impossible for the ecology to maintain itself here. If so, there should be another means of replenishing energy.

Now, if the flavor text was here only for the heck of it, it would have been a waste. There has to be a correlation between the flavor text and the created game world, otherwise a game like that would not be called godly game.

Recently, there are those who think that too much flavor texts and world building in games is a bad thing, mostly because flavor texts change into information dumps that the vast majority of the people are unable to understand correctly. Well, I am sure that there are games like that out there, and that there is actually a whole lot of them, but…… Thinking like that is as if the conveyor belt sushi was only having one type of caviar gunkanmaki. I think that it is this exact attention to details and correlation between the text and the gameplay that makes this game as good as it is.
