ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 464: Dragon, Oh Dragon! PART 41 Part 2

「THIS IS……! THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS NOT OF IMPORTANCE AT THE MOMENT……!」

「Alright, alright, whatever you say.」

Akitsu Akane does not engage into roleplaying all that much, and because of that Akitsu Akane does not despise any particular NPC for whatever reason. Akitsu Akane understands that it might be just a game, but in this game NPCs are pretty much alive and have their own share of ambitions and problems, so he still treats them as he would any normal human in the real world.

That is why this game, this ShangriLa Frontier…… The “system” of this game has the greatest possible value for Akitsu Akane.

「But still…… One cannot just live centered around oneself, always looking forward and without looking behind. There will come a time when you will have to face your past and atone for the sins you have committed, Noirlind-san.」

Akitsu Akane could not be so sure about that, but for a moment out there it seemed as though Noirlind’s back shook a little bit. What could that be all about? Was that perhaps Akitsu Akane’s imagination? Or maybe ultra-realistic graphics of ShangriLa Frontier at work here?

From this distance both Akitsu Akane and Noirlind could see the Skull Azuchi Castle in the distance. Inside of there, there is the leader of the faction that bears a tremendous grudge against Noirlind. And that group would not rest until Noirlind atones for his crimes with his life.

Akitsu Akane bites her lips slightly. It’s not that he could not understand the reasoning behind the Anti—Noirlind’s faction actions, but it was hard for him to accept them just like that.

「THAT PLACE…… IS THAT THE PLACE WHERE THAT WOMAN WHO DESPISES ME SO MUCH RESIDES IN……?」

「Yes, that’s right, and…… Pencilgton and my comrades might seem twisted and messed up at times, but as long as they won’t give up…… I’m sure they have the same kind of desire to surpass Siegwurm as you do, Noirlind-san.」

If there is one thing that Akitsu Akane absolutely detests, it’s giving up.

By the same principle, Akitsu Akane is particularly fond of those who never give up.

And Akitsu Akane believes that when two people who hate giving up clash with one another, they absolutely have to settle their differences.

Isn’t that right? Isn’t that only natural?

Because if you allow people like that to just go on without stopping them in their tracks…… They will just keep on going without being able to actually realize their dreams and ambitions.

「BUT AT THIS RATE…… MY BREATH WILL NOT……」

「Yes, that’s right. Noirlind-san’s breath is probably not going to do much against Siegwurm-san. But those guys…… Yeah, I am sure that those guys are going to do something about it for sure.」

「I WONDER WHAT THAT SOMETHING WOULD BE…… HEY!」

Without actually letting Noilind finish, Akitsu Akane jumped off his back and started to plummet down towards the ground. Without even looking back, the fox-faced man begins to speak once more.

「When it comes to me, I am going to support Noirlind-san with everything I have. I want Norilind-san to keep on going forward at all times, having only to watch after Siegwurm-san. That is exactly why…… I’m going to help you with making that ambition a reality.」

Looking back for just a moment, Akitsu Akane shifts his mask a little bit. Exposing a portion of his face, he smiles at Noirlind and lets out a loud laugh.

「Just leave this all to me! After all, it’s my duty, isn’t it!? I am Noirlind—san’s vassal, right? Or maybe it was a servant? So that is exactly why! I shall make sure that the stage is ready for you! I will remove any obstacle! Because that is what servants do for their masters!」

「AKITSU AKANE, YOU……」

「WHAT’S WRONG, NOIRLIND!? YOU HAVE SOME NERVE TO BE WORRYING ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE WHILE STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! AND TO ALLOW THAT HUMAN TO RIDE ON YOUR BACK SO CASUALLY LIKE THAT!」

「GUNOOOH!!! WHY, YOU BASTARD……!!」

A mass of bright breath attack shoots through the air and hits Noirlind directly to the chest. The Black Dragon groans heavily, stabilizing his flight mid-air and glaring at Siegwurm with eyes filled with hatred.

That’s for the best, Akitsu Akane thinks to himself while going forward. In the end, it was all to him to buy Noirlind the time he needed to fight Siegwurm, and he would accomplish that simply by having the rage and negativity of the Anti-Noirlind faction focused entirely on himself. It’s a little bit selfish, but it is the ideal course of action here…… starting with the E-Miria of “Tempura Knights” and various members of production guilds.

Ahh, come to think of it, what was it that people used to say in situations like that?

Many different people enjoy video games in many different ways. ShangriLa Frontier is no exception from that rule. Now, what is it that Akitsu Akane longs for, not being someone super important, super powerful or super prominent here?

Akitsu Akane lacks the calm judgement and the ability to grow steadily just like Katsu.

Unlike Arthur Pencilgton, Akitsu Akane lacks the cunning and wisdom needed to stir not only the players, but NPCs as well.

Thanks to the intense training and natural player skills Saiga-0 has become the title holder of the “Absolute Firepower”, something that Akitsu Akane could never possibly achieve, no matter how hard he would try.

Kyogoku hones her swordsmanship skills on a daily basis and engages other players in life or death battles without fear of being branded a Player Killer and having to bear the inevitable consequences of such lifestyle. Once again, it was something that Akitsu Akane could never do himself.

Unlike Akitsu Akane, Rust could show incredible skill in maneuvering a giant robot either on land or in the air with seeming ease. Akitsu Akane was sure that it was all thanks to the skills she managed to acquire in some other game. But Akitsu Akane never piloted a mecha before and highly doubted he would be able to do that, even if push came to shove.

Akitsu Akane is also not like Mold, someone who may not be the most powerful or reliable player ever, but it is without a doubt his support that makes Rust into such a prominent player that she is. After all, support is about many more things than a simple firepower.

Finally, Akitsu Akane does lack the boldness and bravado with which Sanraku runs straight ahead, oftentimes making the whole world his enemy in the process.

All of the above people have something that Akitsu Akane lacks, and he respects them all for that. That is why he wants to chase after them in hopes of catching up to them one day. And he will not give up until he tries everything in his power to accomplish that goal.

And if that all goes for nothing, he might give up. But not until then.

「Oh, I have heard about you alright…… You are that guy who proclaimed to everyone that you are supporting Noirlind, aren’t you?」

「Yup, that’s right! My name is Akitsu Akane!」

Oh yes, that’s right. If Sanraku-san was in his current position, he would surely do something like this, right?

「I’m sorry to say this, bu I’m going to wipe the floor with you all, guys!」

For when it comes to Akitsu Akane, constantly challenging himself is his way to go about life.
