ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 487 Part 1

ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 487: Super Exciting Battle Where You Shoot Huge Blocks Right in Your Opponent’s Face Part 1

The name of the boss monster of this layer seems to be a “Renovation Type Base Manufacturing Golem – Developer –“.

I think that naming a boss monster with a “Manufacturing” part is not really that good of an idea, but that’s just my own opinion and other people might think just the opposite. They have the full and complete right to do so.

But be that as it may, the facts are as such: we are right now standing before the boss monster Golem Type “Developer” that needs to be destroyed. It is a fact that won’t change, no matter if we like that or not.

「Sanraku! What is going on!? The terrain started to change all of a sudden!」

「I can see that! And I realized that! Just jump for the time being!」

Eruption, solidification, and then rushing. And then all those three processes repeat themselves over and over again. All of a sudden all of the blocks creating that area started to move around the place, focusing in the center of the area and creating a huge cube there.

In the next moment, some sort of solidifying gel appears out of nowhere from both sides of the cube, seeping in between the individual cubes and solidifying them in place. It honestly looked as if you were piecing together parts of a figurine or a plastic model, with every element finally being put into the right place.

「Hey, Sanraku? I don’t know anything about the Era of the Gods and the actual wisdom of the Gods, but you can be absolutely sure that I am not going to allow this golem to swallow me inside of its belly just so that I can find out about that. …… And what’s the deal with all that gel sticking out of its sides? It’s actually kinda creepy.」

「Hey! Don’t you dare to get all cold—feet on me now! But you’re goddamned right, I’m not going to let this thing swallow me either! Not in a million years!」

After the process of assembling and transforming is all said and done, the “Renovation Type Base Manufacturing Golem – Developer –“ boss monster is complete, and its form reminds me mostly of the Old Type Golems, but with the difference that this one was even bigger than the previous ones. It honestly looked as if it was the “mother” of those “Ants” models.

You know what else that thing reminds me of? A huge, mechanical queen bee. And if you take a closer look, you can really see the resemblance. It’s also a vague guess on my end, but I also believe that the lower portion of this monster’s body could serve as a hangar for the “Ants”? It honestly would not surprise me in the slightest if that was what is going on here.

However, if you want for the boss to be also responsible for non—combat functions, it is a relatively bad idea to install small hangars on both sides of the boss. It makes a really poor impression and ruins the synergy, making me feel as if someone originally wanted to create a self-sufficient walking fortress, but decided to drop that idea part of the way and respect the boss without actually changing its appearance.

「I get a feeling that someone wanted to combine way too many elements in this thing, and the result is this convoluted mess we can see right before us……!」

I get my gun ready to fire, feed it magical energy and then BAM! With a bright light a magic bullet comes flying straight towards the Boss Monster. Normally in movies shooting at monsters with only one well-placed bullet is enough to make short work of them, but I can see that in here there is actually no way that this is going to happen. I certainly did not expect that the boss would be destroyed like that, but I‘ll admit that I expected for the bullet to have a greater impact.

「Yeah, go figure…… A single shot from a weapon like that won’t be nearly enough to penetrate this thing all the way to its core. Saina! Can you try to aim at its tank and see if that is going to accomplish anything!?」

「Report: I do believe that it is currently impossible to destroy those tanks even with the high—caliber long—range weaponry, at least from those current coordinates.」

Due to the fact that the “Developer” has two huge tanks attached to its abdomen, it is only natural to assume that it is incapable of making high speed or agile maneuvers in a condition like that.

However, its sheer mass alone is going to be the issue here. Also, the fact that it is the “hangar” for the “Ants” units and the probable source of all the Techno Magi-Gels in the vicinity.

SPLOSH! SPLOSH! There are spheres of gel-like substance being ejected from the turret-like object located inside of the boss’s tank. Just like with bubble tea, you can see small grains of golem’s cores being infused inside of the gel spheres. Then the gel hits the ground and right after that it starts to divide and proliferate, increasing its numbers without a moment to stop. The gel monsters then grow into the size of a human being and start to approach us, acting just like soldiers that were intending on protecting their mother from any harm.

But that alone is not going to be all that much of a threat here. I mean, if you think about it, it is just a flock of Techno Magi-Gels. Nothing more and nothing less. The biggest problem here, however, is going to be that ability to shift parts of the terrain that creates the arena. Let’s call it “Terrain Maker” for the time being.

Also, some of the freshly ejected Techno Magi-Gels start to gather around “The Developer’s” feet.

“The Developer” then gathers the grouped up Techno Magi-Gels with its mantis sickle-like bloated front legs, and then starts to reshape them into something new, as if you were working with a lump of clay. …… After a while, its job is finally completed and what emerges from under its legs are solidified gel cubes with a visible core built into their frames.

And as a matter of course, it turns out that those things can also be remotely controlled in this particular form. As for their movements…… they were always going in a straight line, from left to right, from right to left, top to bottom and bottom to top…… Damn, what the hell is this game that I am playing now!? Is that someone’s convoluted idea for a puzzle game? So what happens if all those things line up perfectly!? Are they going to explode or what!?

「What are we going to do now, Sanraku!?」

「Araba! Get to work and start taking those pesky Techno Magi-Gels down! Those are just stupid gels with a core! Get rid of that and that should be enough to put them to a halt!」

「Leave it to me! Please, Nereis, grant me your strength once more!」

「But of course!」

Alva is the type of NPC who has low mobility but when it comes to firepower he has plenty of it to spare. And with the magic support from Nereis, he is more than adequate to fight against small fry opponents all by himself.

It does not take long for Araba to make short work of the enemies here. They turn into items and then disappear. However, it would be a good idea to find a way to prevent new golems from coming into contact with “The Developer”, otherwise it is going to get really annoying really fast.

God damn it! Was it a mistake on my part to assume that the boss of the tutorial area would be equally as easy as the thrash mobs that roamed about this place? And what’s with that? A boss whose parts are impossible to destroy? And those annoying blocks! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
