ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 509: Tension Goes Sky High Part 1

「W-What a fierce battle this is! None of the combatants is stepping down! They are all pressing the offensive! Always attacking! Always moving forward! What a wild tenacity!」
「While this may very well be the correct approach for a Heavyweight type of character, I do not think that this is something that Cursed Prison initially wanted. I get the feeling that Cursed Prison went for that direct punch—out only because its mobility got terminated and No Face simply had no other choice regarding that matter here, but……」
「It must have something with that tension thingy you were talking about earlier, right……? I think that’s the case in here as well.」
「Yeah, it sure seems to be that way…… Ahh, it looks like we are having some sort of a new development.」
On the display screen, everyone could see that Cursed Prison was once again slammed into the ground in the upside down position, and that Xenoselgus was being blown away by the missile shot that was fired off by the intruding Valkyrie.
「Ah, I see how it is. Apparently the difference that was made by the Colonel is coming back to its original state.」
「Because of all the previous kill scores, right about now Xenoselgus is going to be the priority target for the Valkyrie to focus on. But there is also an additional pressure that is generated by this situation. For as long as Xenoselgus does not manage to completely obliterate the Valkyrie and some parts of her end up remaining on the field, they can be easily picked up by Cursed Prison and used to strengthen himself up. This is a whole lot of info to digest and control.」
「But in that case, what about the bonus from defeating the Targeted Enemy?」
「When it comes to the benefits for defeating the Targeted Enemies, if you defeat the three Targeted Enemies, the reward for that is the accelerated rate at which you accumulate both Heroic and Villain Gauges…… And while I’m not saying that it is something that is useless here, in this kind of situation, it is not all that great of a reward if obtaining it might mean that your opponent is going to be strengthened as well. You really need to value the risk and rewards here properly.」
So it’s not like taking down as many Targeted Enemies as you can grant you an overwhelming advantage from start to finish. And especially for Sanraku here, obtaining some of the parts from targeted enemies surely was well worth the trouble of allowing his opponent to gain some sort of advantage and his winning chance percentage to drop down by a few percent. But at the same time, thanks to the complicated rule set of the three way battle, even though he initially seemed to be at a disadvantage, it was becoming more and more clear at the current moment that it was actually Cursed Prison who had the upper hand here, without a shred of a doubt.
「When it comes to physical parameters, Cursed Prison is at a clear disadvantage here. However, because Cursed Prison is being hit directly by his opponent’s attacks and gauge techniques, his own Super Finishing Move gauge is going to be filled up at an increased rate. And once he is going to be able to use “Prison Break” once more, I expect things to take quite the different turn here.」
It is also wise to remember that in the not too distant future Xenoselgus is also going to be able to use its Super Finishing Move. And this Super Finishing Move is going to be the last uncertain factor. A factor that might actually be the key that is going to decide about who is going to be the victor here.
「Most probably, everything in here is going to be decided by the appearance of the next Ult Crystal.」
「Ah, I see. So, one of those is bound to appear soon, huh……?」
「Even though the Ult Crystal is supposed to be an item that appears on the map completely at random, it is never something that appears far away from the place where the players are currently located. This means that once you know that it was spawned on the map, it is only a matter of actually going to look for it if you want to find it without any major problem. So for now it only remains to be seen what our contestants are going to do about it.」
「Of course, there are clear advantages of being able to bring your Super Finishing Move gauge to full first, as well as the advantage of keeping it on the lower side of the scale…… However, not every Super Finishing Move is equal to the other ones. I mean, the very nature of “Prison Break”, Cursed Prison’s Super Finishing Move could be the best example in this case.」
When the “Prison Break” takes effect, Cursed Prison changes forms and gains an unparalleled amount of power, but such a state can only be present for no longer than thirty seconds. So even if Cursed Prison was to unleash “Prison Break” first, thirty seconds would still be enough for Xenoselgus to fill up its own Super Finisher gauge and unleash it onto its enemy.
「So I guess it is safe to say that we have arrived at the climax of this fight. And whatever happens from here on out is going to be quite the spectacle, so let’s make sure that we are watching closely, so that we won’t miss a single thing. Personally, I can’t wait to see what comes out of it!」
And true to those words, it would seem that at the other end of the screen the battle was once more changing shift and focus, this time going into the climactic mode at full speed.

「An indoor-type of battle, huh……? That’s actually quite unexpected.」
It is only a natural thing to happen: if you are going to rampage all around the town without a single care in the world, the surrounding environment is going to be destroyed more and more, to the point where it actually degrades beyond salvaging. Various forms of concrete debris, smoke from the fires, dirt flying through the air, chunks of pillars, walls and ceilings…… No matter what kind of Hero or Villain you are, those things are eventually going to start to hinder all of your movements quite a bit.
And as long as there is the now Masterless Valkyrie roaming about the town, destroying everything it comes across indiscreetly, the collapse of this entire place was inevitable. It was only a matter of time at this point. And with the city becoming more and more of a barren wasteland and desolated warzone, more and more gaps were being created between Amelia Sullivan and Sanraku.
In other words, the only thing that could be done here was to keep on fighting, bleeding one another out with all powerful blows. And needless to say, the one to bleed out and run out of HP first would be the one to lose. In other words, a whole lot of HP to spare was going to be a tremendous advantage here.
「I have about thirty percent of my HP left at this point……」
