ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 655: A Scale That Shows the Essence Part 2
I wonder if this thing would be considered an equivalent of a claymore mine in this setting……? Moreover, the only thing you need to detonate this ting to all hell is to trip that one little wire, so the way in which it is acting might actually be a little bit indiscriminate. Well, it’s a good thing that I had at least some amount of experience with First Person Shooters, and even though I was playing the role of a Medic in those games, I managed to learn how to set up tripwires and landmines all the same…… Well, I still have my doubts if this thing is going to become useful to us, but even if it is going to be A LITTLE BIT useful, it would still be a good thing.
「So, see? Look, Emul, this makes a whole lot of sense once you start thinking about it! This thing is so small, right? And you are also pretty small, right? Smaller than a human, at least. So you should have no problem with setting this up on the battlefield without anyone actually noticing, wouldn’t you agree?」
「Sanraku-san, please don’t take it the wrong way but I get a feeling that if I were to place this whole “mine” thing onto the battlefield, the only person who would manage to get caught in it would be you right after that. Or no, it’s not a feeling. I am sure that this would happen.」
「Hey, don’t be stupid, there is no way in hell that I would do such a stupid…… Or you know what? No, I can’t really guarantee that such a thing would not end up happening. It would only be a result of a complete coincidence, but still……」
When it comes to Wire-Type landmines, those things tend to have a rather huge explosive radius…… So I am more than sure that I would step onto one of those because I would surely forget that they would be there in the first place. And as usual with claymore mines, their killing power is so high that they would kill you right where you stand, without actually even giving you a chance to escape or prevent them from exploding. But yeah, getting killed by your own trap, that’s something that has my name written all over it. Not to mention that ever since the dawn of Full Dive system, it has become increasingly more difficult to actually prevent accidental friendly fire when it comes to First Person Shooters.
If you turn your gaze toward the pedestal, it seems that there is another player who has managed to achieve the condition needed for one person to go forward. In the first place, apparently the Scythe of the Spirit of Black Death is worth about eighty thousand points on its own. But even without the need of going on a hunting spree throughout the Behemoth, you would be easily able to achieve the demanded score if only you pulled out all of your rarest items, weapons and armor from the coffers and warehouses in which you were storing them and bringing them here for the inspection. It’s not really all that hard. You don’t even need to go shop in here.
As a side note here, Rei-san had an amazing score of seven hundred billion Magibytes. So you could say that it was a number that couldn’t possibly compare itself to mine , but it was still pretty amazing in its own right…… It’s a good thing that quality items like that had been scattered around the world or were available for us players to be forged. Otherwise the process of obtaining the demanded score in here would have been so cumbersome that I don’t even want to imagine it. Or the alternative here would be rushing through Leviathan to farm score there in hopes of obtaining weapons and armor that would satisfy the condition here.
Also, just an afterthought, but this game really pushes the policy of “Quality Over Quantity” onto the pIayers, huh? I mean, I have been playing for a fairly short amount of time, and look at the score that I managed to amass! On the other hand, the only other player who was close in the score department to me was Rei-san’s and she’s the holder of the “Strongest Firepower” title and someone who’s been playing for over a year now…… Now, curious about that, I decided to inquire about my score with the “Ivory” while we were on the move once more. And can you imagine my surprise when it was disclosed to me that the sword that Weissash gave me occupied about the forty percent of my entire Magibyte score?
So in other words, the actual amount of information I had obtained so far was worth something a little bit over five hundred billion, so that would mean that Rei-san was still superior to me.
And it seems that while I was talking to the “Ivory”, Rei-san was casting short glances at me. Don’t worry, Rei-san. I understand what you are trying to say here. Let’s move on to the next level!
「Well, I am fine with whatever it is that you are going to choose. So be sure to choose something that you really like.」
「Alright then. Then I am going to take you up on that offer and I shall choose this.」
「Hmm, nice, not bad. Not bad at all. So, want me to buy at least one hundred copies of those things? Just for the hell of it?」
「We can’t have that! We can’t allow ourselves to wait for so long!」
Emul, there are times in life where you just need to grit your teeth and carry on forward still, even if it might feel uncomfortable or wasteful for you. But you need to show spirit! Or rather the will to carry all that information…… Oh, yeah. That’s right.
「Alright, then it would be best if you also take this with you.」
「And this is……」
「The Teardrops of Rebirth. It should contain quite a little bit of Magibites, don’t you think?」
「Well, if you are offering them to me like that, then I shall graciously accept them.」
「And here’s another bonus completely for free! Lapistella Star Crystal!」
「I really appreciate it all, but don’t you think that this pattern is starting to get a little bit annoying?」
No, you see, I know that it might be a hassle, but trust me, it’s a necessary hassle. It’s all for the sake of you being able to go to the next layer alongside us without any problems. As far as I can see, the sixth layer of Behemoth seems to have a smaller selection of items than the fourth layer of Leviathan, but that’s actually quite alright. Only Rust and Yashiro Bird can be overly excited about weapons of the same category from different manufacturers, but the guns in this game are not good enough to completely eliminate close-range physical weapons and primitive ranged weapons. This place might resemble the modern day Earth in some aspects, but it’s all about medieval accents taking the stage and possessing the power to carry you towards victory.
Because you see, unlike all other normal weapons, the power of the guns themselves cannot be strengthened externally. For example, if Rei-san would have a sword and a gun that can deal one hundred damage per hit each, and then Professor would apply strengthening magic to both of those weapons before they would attack, the attack power of the sword would actually increase to one hundred twenty, while the attack power of the gun would actually remain at the value Kyoju applies enhanced magic before attacking, the sword attack will be 120, but the gun attack will remain 100.
But even if you were to subtract that one drawback, there is still a fair amount of uses and advantages that a gun possesses over other forms of weapons. However…… Hmm, I wonder. Why do I think that there is a severe catch attached somewhere around here? Could it be that there will be something alongside the lines of “Prototype Human Type Weapon” in the future? It’s really improbable at this point, but the possibility is still there nonetheless……
Oh well, I guess that this is the kind of a barrier that is not really all that insurmountable. Or rather, you can overcome it pretty easily as long as you possess tremendous amounts of magical power. And now, strapped with a whole bunch of Lapistella Star Crystals Emul was ready to be evaluated once more, and this time around he managed to achieve the threshold of one hundred thousand Magibytes of information without any issues. What followed was some matter of conversation between myself, “Ivory” and Rei-san, but it was not all that important. But with all of our businesses finished in this layer, we were finally ready to proceed forward onto the seventh layer.
