CHAPTER 201: THE NEXT STOP IS…
“Naoko-chan, why did you do that to me? I was worried sick, so don’t ever do something like this again.”
When I returned to the inn I did not expect Mia to jump at me and hug me so tightly. I seriously did not think she became this fond of me during the time we spent together.
“Sorry Mia, everyone that I made you worry.”
I guess I do owe them an apology for what I did to them. However, I do not plan on saying that I won’t do this ever again; after all I am a solo player.
“It’s fine, just don’t do it again. Anyways, it is good that you are back now. I won’t be letting you out of my sight anymore. Also no more dungeon runs, it’s too risky.”
Humph. That is no fun. Well I might as well take this chance to sight-see.
“Fine, in fact I already have something else in mind that has nothing to do with dungeons. This will something extremely easy to do.”
Four people raised their eyebrows when I said extremely easy. I don’t understand why do they doubt me? It really is an easy thing.
“Naoko, I don’t believe your definition of easy is same as it is for the rest of us. So what is it that you want to do?”
“Daisuke, don’t be like that. I heard that the dragon scales are in demand these days so I want to visit the Red Lake.”
I just witnessed synchronized facepalming. It’s amazing how even the looks of disapproval looked identical. They all looked like I just told them we were going to visit hell for a walk instead of a nice touristic location, well all except Fulgy who knew from a long time ago that I was planning on going there during this trip.
“Nao-chan, killing dragons is by no means an easy thing to do. Also Red Lake is on the other side of the Kingdom. I don’t want us to be so exposed during the night. Especially, since you are the main target for Black Hand. I mean you said it yourself that they want to kidnap you.”
“Vitou, that is all the more reason that I need to go there. They should be expecting to see me somewhere around here and not miles and miles away. So let’s pack and leave. Besides I never said anything about killing dragons.”
I left them and went into another room with Mia who followed me and Fulgy who had something to say to me.
“My bride, are you sure? You may be safe, but I can’t guarantee that fully. There are many weirdos out there.”
“Don’t worry, I have a plan. Besides, didn’t you leave before since your scales were itchy? I don’t plan on fighting a single dragon while we are at the Red Lake.”
Fulgy just smiled and told me that he prepared three bags for me at the stables where the wyverns were. Mia was completely puzzled with this exchange that occurred between the two of us. I didn’t elaborate further and only helped with packing. Once we were finished we waited outside for the others to join us.
I actually don’t know if dragon scales are needed or not, but I was the one that needed them. It was common to use them to make high quality equipment, but what I needed them for is to test their usage and if I would be able to make them more available for others to use. However, before I could do all that, I wanted to check something first.
“Mia, I know you probably never thought about this, but how about becoming a monster tamer?”
I was looking at Byakko, Sharpbeak and the other wyvern all smooching closer so that would be petted by Mia. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day she comes to Baron Dyne’s territory and all the wyverns that we are raising become attached to her.
“Of course I never thought about it, animals hate me. I’m actually really surprised that these guys want me to pet them. It’s so wonderful and they are so cute, even though they’re monsters.”
I had a thought, maybe she has a special aura that terrifies normal animals, but has a calming effect on monster and that is why they are so attached to her. If that is the case, having her join the clan will be that much more important.
“Hey Mia how ab…”
“Okay, now that we are all done let’s head out. Nao-chan, I have decided that you deserve some sort of punishment for abandoning us all and going off on your own. Since what you were able to provide in return is great you would be able to continue this trip, but to make sure nothing like this happens again I will deduct two weeks of freedom from you.”
I immediately stopped my words. How can he be so cruel? I can’t believe that he would do this to me. I only had ten weeks in the beginning and now almost two had passed since we set out. With the two more deducted I only had six more weeks of freedom.
“Everyone there will be no stopping until the sun sets, let’s move. There is not enough time.”
I made sure to cast an enchantment on Byakko that will make him faster and lighter while he ran and immediately had Fulgy fly up and head southeast towards the Red Lake.
***VITOU’S POV***
“Hey Vitou, your little wife will not like this. Besides, why did she decide on Red Lake out of all places? That place is not exactly a hotspot for dragons to gather. I don’t think she will be able to get many dragon scales there. Could she have something planned out?”
“I don’t care. Actually, I think I will be at ease with her in the castle than this way, but if I stop it now who knows what she will do. As for the reason she chose it, I think it is because of the Dragon Spring that emerges sometime around spring. She must be looking to stock up on liquor.”
Knowing her drinking capacity it is no wonder she wants to stock up. Luckily Marc didn’t see just how much she can drink in the first place.
“I am not so sure about that. We should pay attention. I think she knows something that we don’t. I have a feeling that this will really turn out bad for all of us. But then again it’s just my hunch.”
I laughed but I couldn’t help and frown just a bit afterwards. Marc’s hunches are usually spot on. I looked at Naoko flying atop the black dragon. Please for all our safety, don’t do anything stupid or dangerous.
