CHAPTER 216: LEGEND OF THE DRAGON GOD
“Nao-chan, you’re here. I thought I would be able to find you here.”
I looked behind and Vitou was standing there with Marc and Mia. I couldn’t see Taichi nor Daisuke, so I guess they were sent to do something else. Not that it matters to me. I was still angry with Vitou and what he tried to do last night. Also why did he look fine without being pale or sickly.
“What do you want? I am busy.”
“Toriwa invited us for dinner. You can’t escape this time since it is an official one and all the nobles are coming. So make sure you show your face there.”
Shit, why did I become a noble? Things were much easier when I was a commoner. I should have remained one and declined the offer when the king presented it to me. That way I would not end up being engaged to this bastard here, and I would not be set as a future Queen. This sucks.
“Fine, I’ll go, but don’t expect me to mingle with you. I am still very pissed at you.”
I stood next to Mia and walked back to the Earl Mansion. The day I run away from all this will be the best day in this second life because I would no longer need to endure this. I hope it arrives sooner.
Luckily dinner wasn’t too big, mainly because it was so unplanned and not many nobles were able to arrive in time. And yet despite all that I had to deal with their flattery all night. I seriously should come up with some sort of magic that will make people not want to talk to me at all. That way I would not end up so exhausted at the end of the night.
One good thing about this dinner was that Banbo and his party was not present. I didn’t want to deal with that person.
Once the dinner party was over I bolted immediately, just in case someone gets the idea to make me stay behind. I went back to my inn, where I knew I could sleep in peace.
“Mistress, please punish me. I was unable to fulfill your order.”
“Princess, calm down. What happened? Why are you crying? You shouldn’t be looking down like that. It is a waste of your pretty looks. Stop your tears and tell me what happened.”
As soon as I got to the inn she burst into tears and knelt before me. I was startled and worried about her because she never acted this way before, at least not in front of me.
“I couldn’t drain Vitou-sama’s mana dry. I tried the entire night, but in the morning he still had plenty of it left. I couldn’t do it at all. Even with my poison injected, his mana regeneration didn’t slow down.”
Oh so that is what she meant. I patted her head and comforted her. I guess that is why he didn’t look pale and sickly earlier. Well since she couldn’t do anything to him I could only conclude one of the two things. Either his mana pool and regeneration rate is infinitely large or he has some sort of immunity to mana poisons.
“It’s okay, you did your best. Also, you did what I asked you to do. It is not your fault that he is a monster. Now let’s wipe those tears and put on a smile on that pretty face.”
“Yes Mistress!”
I left her alone and went to my room where Fulgy was already sleeping. He really takes the most out of the deal that I made with him. Well to be honest I completely don’t mind his presence. In fact, I kind of got used to it and even find his warm embrace welcoming. I crawled into bed and passed out in a matter of minutes.
The next morning I woke up early to prepare for departure. My next stop was Kapitalia. I still had some work to do there. Also I need to prepare for the trip to Vilikis.
“My bride, why do you refuse me so much? Even in dreams you refuse to mix our mana.”
“Fulgy, you’re awake. I’m sorry, but I don’t want any accidents to occur. You said it yourself, dragons are born from mana, don’t think I wouldn’t know what the consequences are.”
I don’t plan on becoming a mother, not now nor anytime soon. And while I don’t hate him anymore for tricking me into marrying him, I don’t think I want to go any further with him. Even though right now I think of him as truly my dragon possessively, and if anyone thinks about snatching him from me, they will all have a miserable end.
“Well, as long as you think of me as yours, I will make you change your mind. After all, descendants of the Dragon God have the ability to turn human for a reason.”
Whoa, I just heard something interesting. This is the first time I am hearing about a Dragon God. Looks like I will be able to learn something new.
“The Dragon God?”
“It was the strongest Dragon that lived. The legend tells how he fought against Titans that revolted against God Thanatos. He stood alone against an entire army of them and defeated all but one. He was about to be pierced by a sword, when a young boy ran in front of him and using its small body stopped the sword. This gave the dragon the opportunity to strike the evil Titan and kill him, but in return he was left on death’s door.”
“The Dragon that fought alone was extremely moved with the act of the weak human who sacrificed its life so that he could win the fight. He knew that he could not survive with all the wounds, so in order to repay that human he used every last drop of his vitality left to save the boy, but sadly it was too late for both of them.”
Oh no, I think I am about to cry. This is not what I expected to hear when listening to a legend about the Dragon God. I must have looked miserable, because Fulgy smiled upon seeing my expression.
“However, at that moment, a man clad in black descended between the two of them and placed his hands on the two bodies. Thanatos-sama, who was touched by the devotion that the Dragon had towards him and the sacrifice of the boy, bound the souls of the two into a single entity and rewarded them with a Seed of Divinity which would allow them to reach godhood one day.”
“The action of God Thanatos allowed them to take either dragon or human form which symbolizes their difference and yet at the same time unity. They grew stronger and stronger and ultimately reached the strength to become a god and left this plane. Even though they left, the direct descendants of the Dragon God all kept the ability to turn into both forms which shows how great their power of unity was.”
“That is one amazing story. I had no idea about the history of dragons. I am glad you told me about it. Next time, can you tell me more about it?”
Fulgy seemed really glad to hear that and kept on humming happily the entire time as I packed and prepared to leave Orzak.
