CHAPTER 270: DEVELOPMENT OF DRAGON’S DESCENT
“I’m surprised to hear that. Since that is the case, I will believe you and not worry about it. Moreover, you should be aware that I will be forming Black Phoenix party and the members are all from the Demon Race. They might appear at the clan from time to time, and I don’t want to have anyone look down on them, or even worse, insult them.”
“Once those people arrive, just let them have a drink with us. I assure you, there shouldn’t be any big problems after that.”
“I hope you are right. If I learn about members not obeying the rules, I will not hold back. This is especially important in the beginning. If I can’t control even this small group of people, how can I hope to spread such ideals on a larger scale when we move to Sunset Islands.”
Although I remained worried on the outside, I really felt relieved upon hearing Dogusu’s words. He should be the one that knows the members best. I am often away doing god-knows-what and he is the one that stays in the HQ and interacts with others as well as deals with all the reports. I can trust his judgment.
With that out of the way, I went through all the changes that happened while I was away. The main points were changes in our income. With the opening of stores selling magic crystals, the clan finally had a stable source of income, unlike in the past where it depended on my pocket money and selling the wyverns.
Speaking of which…
“How many wyverns do we have currently?”
“There are 147 wyverns in our hands. Aside from the ones sold to the Crown Prince, we sold about a dozen others, mainly to nobles to get some benefits when passing through their territories.”
That is really a good number, but I should sell some more. I need funds badly right now and the number I need is not small. There was no need to think over this and I decided immediately how to get that money.
“Go and choose forty of the youngest ones, weaker first. We will sell half to Vitou and the other half will go to Vilikis. The price will be kept the same as in the past, but for those in Vilikis, you can try and raise the price. With that money I want you to recruit shipbuilders, masons, carpenters and other masters. If we can gather more people who excel in their respective fields, it will be better for us in the future. Don’t be stingy when recruiting them, all of them will be indispensable in the future.”
“Those are some big plans, Honorable Boss. It will not be easy to hide such movements. Are you planning on letting everyone know our actions?”
“Don’t mind them, we can use the commotion this will cause to move the most hidden research teams to Sunset Islands. Also give out the order to our Air Force to start flying in formations. They will be needed to transport some sensitive equipment later on and I need them to be able to handle this task. I will prepare a container that can be used for air transport.”
There are a lot of things that need to be done before we move to Sunset Islands. There is still some time before my wedding, but I fear it will be rushed nonetheless. The recruiting of masters is something I thought of when I visited that pastry shop. If I want Sunset Islands to become a true paradise, I will need such people. I should probably hire local people, but right now I don’t know what the real situation is there, so I can only bring people along. Later on, there will be enough chances to employ them and let the islands develop.
As for the shops here, they have already established themselves and the income is stable. In the future, their businesses will bloom further, especially if my guess is correct and a war between two kingdoms breaks out. I don’t know what plans the King has, but the presence of my shops will only be beneficial to him.
“You can consider it done. They will be delighted to have a job at last. Anything else?”
“How are our relationships with other big clans?”
I remember Vitou telling me about their complaints. While, at the time, I seemed uninterested with it, I made sure not to get into direct conflict. We are mainly independent aside from purchasing monster cores from other sources, but if those big guilds decide to make a move, we will be in trouble. That is why we remained mainly low-key this entire time.
“Neither good nor bad. They will be happy if we move to Sunset Islands, but at the same time they will not have a deterrent against other middle sized groups trying to steal away their businesses. You may not be aware of this, but after our fight with the Blood Knight group and crushing them completely a lot of middle sized groups calmed down in fear of insulting us.”
Oh, I really had no idea about that. It seems that our presence in Kapitalia really helped them inadvertently. Either way, soon there will be no need to heed them any attention. As long as they don’t hinder us in the next few months, things will go smoothly.
“That’s good. If they start making trouble, sell them a wyvern or two if nothing else helps. Just don’t let the number of wyverns in our possession go below a hundred. Also, if there are any members itching for an adventure, send them to obtain newborn dragons or unhatched dragon eggs. I will need five of them at the very least, but try not to offend the parents if possible. I don’t want us to have to deal with the revenge of dragons.”
“I’ll see what I can do. Do you want to visit the research labs? I only know some overview of all the data. If you want details, I cannot help you, Honorable Boss. That stuff is not for me.”
“I’ll go there tomorrow. I still want to go over the account books, as well as the state of our treasury. I have some extra items that will be put in later on, but I want them to be in a special area which will be open only for the most trusted members first. I think I will do some reorganization when I get started.”
I told Dogusu the origin of the items and how I plan on distributing them. He wasn’t worried at all and I knew it was because he had trust in our members. I still decided to implement a note that will remind everyone to be cautious when using them.
When things were sorted out, it was already past midnight. I was planning to sleep in the mansion and visit the research base tomorrow, but when I passed the lobby, I saw a guest waiting and reading one of the original books stored there.
“I thought I told you not to bring anyone to take me back to the castle. Why are you here, Vitou?”
“Nao-chan, you’re finally here. I’ve been waiting for hours. Actually, I’m not here to bring you back. I just wanted to talk to you about something.”
I looked around, but saw neither Daisuke nor Taichi with him. Most likely he snuck out and didn’t bring anyone along. Well, since he is here to talk, I might as well do some business with him.
“Okay, let’s go out for a drink and talk things over. There is something I also want to talk about with you.”
I was about to leave and head to one of the taverns around the area, but he grabbed my hand, completely stopping me from going anywhere.
