CHAPTER 35 – THE TRUTH

*GM’S POV*

Following Naoko-san’s words Irina-sama who had been unconscious this whole time opened her eyes, but the look behind them was glassy and unfocused. She seemed to be seeing something that was not here. Having the audience present meant nothing to her; in fact, I was sure she wasn’t even noticing us at all.

All of a sudden her expression turned dark. I was wondering what happened when I got my explanation hearing her words loud and clear.

“Don’t you good morning sis to me Anika, how could you deceive me like that?”

I realized that she was being made to seen her sister. And right now we were hearing half the conversation that was going on. But I could understand the situation the most since I could hear Naoko-san muttering the other half to her. She must have wanted to bring both sisters down, and not just the one in front of her.

“Don’t you play dumb right now, you begged me for days to help you get rid of that bitch, saying that you couldn’t make a move since you were under constant observation.”

Oh my goodness what a bold confession. I never thought that she would be able to
receive one this easily. With this Naoko-san can decide and bring Anika-sama to court.

“How could I have known that sis, I saw her status from when she joined, I didn’t know she hid her power. How could I…”

“Don’t make excuses, you told me she was a weakling that shouldn’t be past lv15 and that was over praising her because she only had dark and spirit magic. No such useless person can evade all my attacks and sense my presence rather easily.”

This was too much to hear about. I am sure this will be a fatal strike to the house of
Loren. One daughter is a member of Black Hand and the other one has blatantly planned to assassinate fellow adventurer. I cannot believe that it turned out Irina-sama was the one to set all those traps to kill Naoko-san.

“Guild Master you as well as the rest of the people present here have bore witness to this confession. I am sure you already realized that I have showed her an illusion where she is talking to her sister but despite that this should still count as valid evidence. I ask you to please take proper action against a person that was colluding to kill me.”

Although this last sentence, that she directed at me, sounded like pleading I knew that was not the case. I couldn’t say no, she was pressuring me to accept her proposition. Even though I was the Guild Master right now she held all authority.

“I pass this order as the Guild Master of the Orzak branch; Culprits Irina and Anika von Loren are to be put under arrest. Irina von Loren is to be executed for her crimes of treason against the kingdom and Anika von Loren will be interrogated and prosecuted according to the laws of the country. Capturing Anika-sama, the request rank is C and the reward is 2 gold coins.”

The arena turned loud once again. Many people rushed out to catch Anika-sama. Naoko-san seemed to be pleased with my declaration and seeing that I felt relieved. Right now she was too much of a threat and angering her was definitely not a good option. Especially after I witnessed what she did to Irina-sama.

“Thank you Daphira. Time to bring her back to reality, I need to have a talk with her.”

Huh? I thought she was done for tonight. I never thought that she would still continue to interrogate her. What is she hoping to achieve.

“WH-what? I was just in Anika’s room. Why am I here?”

“Actually you were never there, you only thought you were. Congratulations you just sold out your sister and everything she did.”

“What are you talking about? Why are we still in the arena? Didn’t I win since I was with Anika?”

“Can’t you hear, I told you that you were never there. You spilled everything to a room full of witnesses, right now dozens of adventurers are on their way to capture Anika all thanks to you. Also it is known that you are a Black Hand operative, unlike your little sister you don’t have a way out.”

“You’re lying. I would never do that!”

“Aren’t you acting your part right now? Here’s the deal, tell me about your boss; the Undying Necromancer and how to find him, and I’ll plead for your sister’s life. My word is very precious you see, since I am the one that will sue her.”

Naoko-san is a genius. She should be able to speak freely now that the crest is destroyed. This may become the most important info we gain about Black Hand in the past hundred years, maybe even more.

“You’re insane I will never tell you anything.”

“Very well, do you have any last words for your sister before both of you die. I just might slip and tell her that you caused her death by choosing Black Hand over her life.”

Naoko-san took out her sword and raised it to Irina’s neck. I didn’t intervene because I had to believe that this was only a bluff. She wouldn’t kill her only witness before learning more, right?

“Wait! Stop! I’ll talk, I’ll tell you everything. The Black Hand…”

With a thud Irina-sama fell to the floor with a hole in her forehead. I looked up to see what Naoko-san was doing but she was no longer there. Instead, the commotion was especially loud at one part of the audience. Naoko was holding a man that was already foaming around his mouth.

“Long live the Black King”

With that he also passed out. Naoko-san pulled up his sleeve and on the forearm there was a black skull. He must have been here to make sure nothing happens to Irina-sama and if it does to eliminate the threat of exposing the organization. He must have taken his own life after killing Irina-sama. For such a thing to happen at this guild, it is truly unfortunate.

“Everyone please stay calm and don’t panic. Head home for tonight. The guild will take
necessary actions to investigate this entire crime. Please act as witness today and speak the truth about what happened. And make sure you spread word of the one that uncovered all this. The Queen, no, the Elemental Empress of Orzak that rules over all elements. Let us not allow her might to remain hidden.”

With my word the crowd began dispersing. This was the first time the name of Elemental Empress spread throughout the kingdom as well as beginning of a legend that will change the world.
