CHAPTER 92: TEMPLE OF RAIN

“Good morning Nino-san, how come you are working the morning shift?”

“Naoko-san good morning, I switched with Millie this week. What brings you to the guild this early? You are not going out to train today?”

By now, everyone had gotten used to my daily routine, to a point I heard some people were telling what the time was by the location I was at. It was ridiculous to me to think that people were paying so much attention to me.

“Not today, I came to see if any new request came in lately. Rank B since I need to take them on in order to earn a promotion.”

“You’re in luck. We received a new one yesterday and nobody took it so far. A strange phenomenon occurred near the village of Bradkin. A farmer discovered an abandoned temple and after entering it, the sky overhead turned dark and rain began falling constantly in that area.

The people want the rain to stop and are looking for a way to break the curse from the temple.”

This sounded really interesting. Mystery, thrill and supernatural all in one, I couldn’t ask for a better combination.

“I’ll take it, this sounds like fun.”

“Your definition of fun is very different from mine Naoko-san. I will process this request real quick and then you will be free to go.”

I had no idea how to stop the rain, but I really wanted to know what is causing it and if it really is a curse from the temple. I must head towards Bradkin as soon as possible. This type of request will most likely be sent to multiple branches of adventurers’ guild and I don’t want to compete over the rights to explore the temple with other people.

“Here’s your guild card. Please take care on the way there Naoko-san.”

“Will do Nino-san, say hi to Millie-chan for me when you see her later today. Sadly I won’t be able to see her and chat.”

I winked at him which made him flustered. I could see that there was something between the two of them. Ever since Millie-chan began working at the guild, I could sense there was some type of chemistry between these two receptionists. Honestly, it made me happy and I wish they really end up together.

Before leaving the town, I visited Ronda. The little girl that sold me strawberries and told her I wouldn’t be here for the next few days. I always bought whatever she had to sell if it was edible. It wasn’t much for me, but her and all her friends looking a bit healthier made me feel I was able to help them even a little bit.

I didn’t bother buying any more food that I needed to travel, since the stash inside my
inventory was already frightening and it was only growing larger with every passing day. I only stopped by the blacksmith’s to restock on my throwing knives and told Mylene-san to keep my room free for the next few days. Equipping myself with Valkyrie armor, Kunoichi’s Cosplay clothes and a cloak over it all, I went out of town and set off for the Bradkin Village.

Using [Blink] as a way of moving between places, I was able to reach my destination just before noon. I showed my guild card to the guard and asked where the chief is. It was super easy to find his house, since it was the largest building in the whole village and it was built right next to the clock tower. West of the village, I could see the dark clouds and a curtain of rain, but here the weather was clear and sunny.

“Good day chief, I am Naoko Maeda, an adventurer that has accepted your request about the temple and the rain.”

“Oh, another one, you look rather young. Are you sure you will be okay all alone?”

“I am stronger than I look, you said another person accepted your request, did someone arrive before me?”

“Yeah it was some noble’s party looking for adventure. They came in yesterday and still haven’t set out for the temple of rain.”

Temple of rain, now that had a nice ring to it, well since they haven’t set out yet then I have an advantage. I looked out the window to the West and looked forward to solving this mystery.

“Can you tell me anything you might know about that place.”

“Sadly I don’t know much about it either. After it was discovered I tried to find some records of it, but the only thing I was able to learn were bits and pieces, nothing really important. Apparently long ago it was called Temple of Bountiful Harvest, but with constant weather we are calling it Temple of Rain right now as I think it is more proper.”

An unknown temple entirely, well since it wasn’t recognized, I can be pretty sure that it doesn’t belong to any of the twelve guardians, so it should be an ancient temple. This is not good, I’m getting too excited about all this.

“Thank you for sharing this with me Chief. I am going to head out now. I want to start immediately with collecting clues at the temple.”

“Thank you very much. Please Maeda-san, change this phenomenon before any damage comes to this little place of ours.”

I nodded my head and left the chief’s place. I must reach the temple before that other party decides to mess up my plans. The temple was an hour away from the village and even thought I could be there within a minute, I decided to walk there to see if I could spot anything on the way. And I wanted to see the place where the rain started and how large of an area was affected.

Activating all my detecting skills, I began walking in the rain towards the temple. I was certain that if there is a presence that was causing this rain then I would be able to sense it no matter what. But even upon reaching the temple and searching around it, nothing was discovered. But the rain that was falling was by no means normal. It felt too uniform and to keep on falling like that for days without any change is strange no matter how you look at it. Not to mention, it was only around the temple and not moving away. Since there is something causing it, then it must be within the temple. Taking big steps, I moved inside the temple and began my investigation once again.
