Luke shrugged. “They came back when Valbanill awakened. Heavy as hell, too.”
“It’s not all bad, though,” Ewen said. “Since Valbanill’s flesh inside us has reactivated, our physical capabilities have been greatly enhanced. Even with these heavy swords, we managed to climb up here from the foot of the volcano in no time. Though… there are some concerns. But that’s for later.”
He glanced behind him. Aria was helping the Former to her feet. Both kept a slight distance from Ewen, likely because of the flesh of Valbanill he just mentioned.
Whether he knew or just didn’t care, Ewen cheerfully greeted Aria. “Hello. It’s been a while. Uh, how’ve you been holding up?”

“Huh? What do you mean?”
Aria dipped her chin and gave a slight bow. “Thank you, Ewen Benjamin. For protecting me and the Former. I’m grateful.”
