Valbanill 2 – Part 07

The original strategy was to launch a surprise attack from the volcanic heights as the enemy emerged from the forest.

Using the high ground to their advantage, they would fire arrows from above, drop boulders, roll logs, chant Prayer Pacts. A very simple tactic, but none more effective came to mind. At the very least, they were certain they could seize the initiative early on. Such was the impact that favorable terrain could have on the course of battle.

“Or so we thought,” Hilda muttered, her back against the trench wall. “They completely shut us down at the start.”

Lightning flashed, thunder roared, explosions went off, dust rose, screams and shouts filled the air. The battlefield was pure chaos.

Sporadic bursts of lightning tore through trenches and earthen walls like paper. Shockwaves hurled human bodies like toys, while those who got hit were reduced to ash in an instant.
