Walking through the field at night, I had to be alert. It was especially important to watch out for monsters in the sky.
I got Bunraku to use his bow and arrow as his main weapon.
I gave Goki a sword and shield.
Goki would probably be the first to encounter any monsters.
I would have to consider Goki’s defence too.
Were they going to come at me?
So far, it was just Steppe Lions.
There were not that many of them either.
Maybe I was just worrying too much?
No, it looked like the map did actually have something else up its sleeve.
Skeleton Bird Lv.2
Monster Undead Enemy Target Active
Battle Position: Air Dark Attribute
A flying monster, huh?
On top of being in the sky, it was also an undead monster.
The more I thought about how it could even fly, the more my head started to hurt.
Guessing from its size, I would assume it would be about as strong as a Carrion Feeder?
But the difference came in when considering the mobility of the Skeleton Bird.
It was fast.
But only when it was diving down to attack.
I was very grateful I only had to deal with one of them.
I used 【Fire Shot】 to get some damage on it, and Obsidian followed up my attacks.
It was killed by Tigris when it fell to the ground.
Well, it was a relatively easy monster to defeat, provided that somebody could come close enough to attack the spirits inside the Skeleton Birds.
The process to reach that stage was what made these undead monsters so difficult!
I’m talking to you, Skeleton Mammoths!
When I tried to collect its item drops, it dropped a Magic Stone.
It was a rather subtle reward.
But I kept going.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one more new monster that only came out at night.
Right as I was thinking about that, I ran into another monster.
Hipping Rat Lv.1
Monster Enemy Target Active
Battle Position: Ground Wind Resistance Earth Resistance
Yep.
That fight was quickly over.
Even though there were seven of them!
Chasing around the monsters as they scurried about here and there was quite fun.
I had Obsidian too, so I wasn’t worried about letting them get away.
As expected, Bunraku did not even bother trying to use his bow.
Bunraku automatically swapped to his spear.
It wasn’t the easiest battle I had ever fought, but I knew that as soon as I could catch them, it was checkmate for them.
They all left behind only pebbles.
Wow…
At least drop your skin, please!
If I wasn’t mistaken, I had a feeling I saw the Hipping Rats together with the Twelve Heavenly Generals.
I tried using 【Call Monster】 once again.
I could finally see the monsters around me.
As expected, if I didn’t encounter them by chance first, I wouldn’t be able to see them or call them using 【Call Monster】.
But there was something else I was concerned about.
More precisely, the Centaurs.
I felt like there were more of them.
Oh no. They noticed me.
After that, the night turned into a game of tag with pack after pack of Centaurs.
I can’t believe I was so careless…
I wasn’t even calling them, but they came one after another to attack me.
Don’t you underestimate me!
After all of that, I had no choice but to take them down.
After taking out three large herds of Centaurs, we were finally given some rest… Mostly mental and emotional rest.
The Centaurs didn’t drop anything good.
The most I could do was try to break down their equipment to get Obsidian Stones.
But the process to do that was quite time-consuming too… It probably wasn’t worth the effort.
I decided against it. I still wanted to focus on movement, after all.
《【Two-handed Spear】 Level Up! 》
《【Dash】 Level Up! 》
《【Endurance Run】 Level Up! 》
《Summon Monster『Tigris』Level Up! 》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》
Tigris levelled up… That made for a good reason to sit down and take a short break.
It looked like it would be impossible to reach the S1W3 map in just one night.
As expected, just walking without Zangetsu definitely made movement a lot more difficult.
Oops, almost forgot.
The stat that went up with the level-up was AGI.
I put another point into VIT.
Tigris Sturmtiger Lv1→Lv2 (↑1)
DEX 11
AGI 22 (↑1)
INT 11
STR 22
VIT 22 (↑1)
SPI 11
Skills:
Bite Threaten Sense Danger Night Vision Conceal Wind Attribute
Yep. I was very grateful to the game for choosing to put one of the stat points into AGI.
That line of numbers was just beautiful…
I gave up on marching all the way to S1W3.
I used 【Call Monster】, hoping to more efficiently hunt the monsters.
I took the plunge and recalled Obsidian and Tigris too.
I summoned Gokame and Denier.
They were weaker, but I already had Goki, Heather, and Bunraku.
If I used spells to strengthen all my Summon Monsters, we would probably be alright.
I switched up my weapon too.
I put away my Swordfish Spear and pulled out my Beltfish Dagger and a Tonfa of Torture.
I wrapped my Black Rope around my shoulder.
My main goal was now to train Denier.
Of course, my main prey would be Steppe Lions.
The time was past 11 PM.
If possible, I wanted to call it a day after Denier levelled up.
Come on… Where were the info screens…?
How many more monsters would I have to take out until another info screen…?
《【Rope Artes】 Level Up! 》
《Summon Monster『Bunraku』Level Up! 》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》
Yeah. I got a few level-ups.
It wasn’t for Denier, though!
But I definitely wasn’t complaining.
The stat that went up with the level-up was DEX.
I put another point into SPI.
Bunraku Metalskin Lv1→Lv2 (↑1)
DEX 29 (↑1)
AGI 10
INT 20
STR 14
VIT 14
SPI 13 (↑ 1)
Skills:
Two-handed Spear Bow Cooking Magic Resistance [Slight] Self-Repair [Slight]
I could still go on for a bit longer.
If I worked a little harder, I could probably reach Denier’s level-up too.
Denier was contributing nicely to all the fights too, shooting balls of sticky thread at the Steppe Lions.
Denier was definitely making the fights easier.
The threads that Denier shot out were quite thick too.
Looking closer, they were not mono-filament threads like you would see in a fishing line.
It looked and felt more like industrial nylon or polyester fibres.
A nylon thread would be about 1680 deniers thick, if we’re talking about polyester threads, maybe 1500 deniers?
Wait, no, I made a mistake.
I suppose nylon threads would be 1850 decitexes and a polyester thread 1650 decitexes?
Oh dear…
SI units could be quite confusing at times!
Well, leaving the complaints for later…
The Steppe Lions had a habit of calling in their friends too, which allowed me to fight multiple at once.
The time was past 11:40 PM.
Come on, Come on!
《Summon Monster『Goki』Level Up! 》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》
I got a level-up, but it was for another Summon Monster.
But that was okay. No complaints.
The stat that went up with the level-up was AGI.
I put another point into STR.
Goki Rakshasa Lv4→Lv5 (↑1)
DEX 20
AGI 17 (↑1)
INT 16
INT 20 (↑1)
VIT 19
SPI 16
Skills:
Bow Hatchet Sword Buckler Block Evade Hide Dark Attribute
I would have loved for the other stat point to go into VIT. It would have led to a much more beautiful line of numbers.
What a shame…
But, to my delight, there were more info screens waiting for me.
《Summon Monster『Denier』Level Up! 》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》
Finally, I got what I was aiming for.
Nice!
I could finally log out without feeling like I left my work unfinished.
But before that…
The stat that went up with the level-up was DEX.
I put another point into STR.
Denier Big Spider Lv2→Lv3 (↑1)
DEX 21 (↑1)
AGI 19
INT 15
STR 8 (↑ 1)
VIT 8
SPI 7
Skills:
Bite Vibration Detection Conceal Spin Web Trap Poison
It felt a bit strange, giving up on my initial goal… But I was glad I decided to focus on training my Summon Monsters for the rest of the night.
But I would definitely have to focus on reaching S1W3 once it was daytime again.
What kind of map would it be…?
I was definitely looking forward to meeting many new monsters.
Oops, my thoughts were starting to wander to strange places.
I quickly logged out. There was still much preparation to do for the next day.
