「Well then, I’ll leave it to you.」
「Yep, will take care of it, thanks.」
Rick was carrying most of the supplies for the resupply mission in his many《Item Boxes》.
Well the contents were mostly just food and other essentials.
As much as possible, I tried to fit supplies in my own《Item Boxes》. The other Summoners did the same.
It would be better to pack more than needed, just in case.
In addition to Rick, four other Production Job Players were going to accompany us on our mission.
The other female Production Job players rode together with Adele and Irina.
Suruga and Nonomura were also carrying one other player on their horses.
Yep.
I had a feeling that role was pushed upon them by a certain someone.
Well, alright then.
For some reason, I was somehow made the leader of our little reconnaissance company.
But it couldn’t be helped.
I just had to do my best until we reached the Spring of Mist.
「Well then, let’s depart!」
『Yes, sir!』
The Summoners around me were all very fired up.
It still felt like we were having a Summoner meet-up more than we were fighting a war.
Irina was probably the quietest out of everyone.
Well, I didn’t mind that kind of excited atmosphere either. It was mysteriously pleasant.
Anyway… Getting back to the topic at hand.
We left the village and headed westward at a high speed.
Our first priority would be to safely reach the Spring of Mist.
As much as possible, I wanted to avoid running into monsters.
We reached W3 at 9:20 am.
It was a very good pace.
The number of monsters around us wasn’t anything crazy either.
It looked like their spawning patterns, along with their behaviour, had gone back to normal.
We ran into a few monsters, but we literally just trampled over them as we ran towards W3.
Once we entered W3, we deployed some Instant Portals to take a short break before we moved on.
Rick also took the opportunity to log out, but logged in and came back in no time.
It took some time for all the players to return.
Rick took the time to check the many messages he had.
「I’ve managed to contact the Production Job Players in the Spring of Mist.」
「Oh?」
「Some parties have already thrown themselves out of the Area Portal, doing their best to take on the army of monsters on their own.」
Oh, I see…
They weren’t just sitting still. They were actually doing your best on their own too.
「But they’re quite starved… They’re expecting to run out of food by tomorrow morning.」
「We’re going to be there just in time, huh.」
「Yep. Even if only half of the supplies we have make it, that should be enough to keep them going for long enough until the rest of our army can arrive.」
「Well, if we’re just running into the Spring of Mist, everything should go smoothly.」
That’s right.
I wanted to tackle it optimistically.
Rick looked up at me with a faint chuckle. Some of his energy had come back.
We left again at 9:50 am.
Finishing the roll call and confirming nobody was left behind took a lot of time.
Not to mention organising Summon Monster teams.
Anyway…
It was time to run into the Spring of Mist!
It definitely was a strange-sounding strategy, but it was solid.
We would probably reach the Spring of Mist at about noon.
I checked the Wide-area Map again.
『I see the Spring in the distance!』
『Monster army confirmed!』
『Do you think there’s less Centaurs there this time?』
『I see a lot of Fighting Bulls though!』
「Watch the skies! There are Minor Griffins watching their surroundings!」
『One of the Minor Griffins is carrying a Magus!』
What did the situation look like?
It wasn’t very promising, to say the least.
The Centaurs were relatively few, but there were a lot of Fighting Bulls.
There were Panzer Rhinos too.
Along with 5 Minor Griffins in the sky.
The Minor Griffins were definitely slower than us on the ground.
But their power in the air was nothing to make fun of.
Although… How long would they be able to resist the wave of Hawks and Owls?
I just had to try it to find out.
「Charge into the Spring of Mist! Don’t worry about monsters chasing you!」
『We’ll take the lead!』
「Got it! Everyone, follow after Konohana!」
『Yes, sir!』
『Alright!』
The horses around me all started speeding up.
At the same time, the sound of spells being cast began in various places around me.
From behind me, Rick started casting a spell too.
I slowed down until I was at the very end of the herd of horses.
There was a reason behind me taking on the role of the rear guard.
I wanted to make sure none of the Centaurs or Fighting Bulls would be able to catch up to us.
I saw light from spells burst forth in front of me.
Everyone else was doing their best, making good use of the element of the surprise.
We managed to break through the encirclement of the Spring of Mist.
Wall spells were used on our right and on our left, along with area-of-effect attack spells to clear the way.
It was a very amazing sight to behold from the very back.
Most of my spells were attack spells directed at the sky.
The Minor Griffins were quite troublesome.
I needed to use【Wind Cutter】 to keep the Minor Griffins from diving down to attack us.
They could fly quite high into the sky, so I had no choice but to use【Wind Cutter】for its long range.
The damage that【Wind Cutter】did was nice, but I was far more concerned about making the Minor Griffins lose their balance in the sky.
Some of them, after getting hit by my spells, were followed up on by hawks and owls, and fell to the ground.
But I didn’t have the freedom to finish them off.
From both of my right and my left, monsters were converging on us to prevent us from entering the Area Portal.
「Ice wall!」
『Dark Explosion!』
That’s right, I had Rick with me to cast spells too. His presence was very helpful in keeping the Centaurs and Fighting Bulls away.
Would we be able to make it in time? The horse in front of us was quite a distance away.
Well, that was what I was hoping for.
We made in just in time.
It was right before the gap that everyone opened up closed again.
Zangetsu managed to make it in at the last moment.
But just because we didn’t get separated from the others, didn’t mean the threat was over.
The monsters were still running closely behind me.
I looked back to find an angry herd of Fighting Bulls.
I was pretty confident that they wouldn’t be able to catch me.
But I wanted to make use of the opportunity to reduce their numbers a bit.
「Mind if I do something a bit crazy?」
『Please do! I’ll be with you!』
Rick seemed to be fine with whatever I was planning.
Anyway…
I guess there was nothing left to do but try out my idea.
「Fire Wall!」
「Magma Screen!」
『Dark Explosion!』
Half of the Fighting Bulls chasing me crashed into the walls.
That would probably be enough to take out quite a few of them.
Rick was helping out a lot with his area-of-effect attack spells, taking down a lot of Fighting Bulls too.
A small pack of wolves slowed down to my position at the tail end, probably to prevent us from getting surrounded.
I could immediately recognise Volff, but the White Wolves and Black Wolves were quite amazing!
Their fighting ability wasn’t inferior to Volff’s either.
After using the wall spells, I managed to gain some distance, but the monsters still didn’t look like they were about to give up anytime soon.
The Fighting Bulls looked like they were in a blinding rage.
I tried using【Identify】on the Fighting Bulls, and sure enough, that was the case.
I could already see the Spring of Mist in front of me.
The players in front of me started running in single file.
But…
There was confusion among the monsters behind me.
It was like they were being attacked by something.
I found out the reason why soon: Gas Clouds.
Their markers were yellow.
It looked like they thought of the monsters as a hostile enemy to the Spring of Mist.
With the Monsters being attacked from all sides, they started retreating.
The Minor Griffins in the sky stopped trying to attack us too.
Yep.
Looked like we would be able to enter the Spring of Mist peacefully.
「That’s all for the roll call, looks like we all made it in safely.」
「Some of our Summon Monsters have Abnormal Status Conditions, but besides that, no problem.」
「Understood. Rick?」
「I guess it’s my turn from here, yeah?」
