Chapter 298 Part 3

Hyodor and Heraclius use Return Home to go back to the Silent Bamboo Woods.
It looks like they’re going to do some hunting near the area portal, then pull back and prepare for tomorrow.

Each member forms a union based on their own judgment.
It seems that every union has access to Spacetime magic, so they can easily return to the area portal.
In that case, I guess it’s okay, right?

So what should I do?
It would be nice to hunt Majins using Instant Portals.
There are almost no Majins demons left over from our previous fight against that Slave Beast – Turtlesnake.
Ah, that’s right!
Should I try to get closer to the Kim Kui Slave while hunting?
There are probably still many Majins left on the way.

But before that…
Let’s change the lineup.
Volff, Obsidian, Goki, Shishiku, and Telomere.
Exploration, movement, and attack power.
This lineup is balanced in those three aspects.
Although Oma isn’t in such a tough spot as Heather in terms of MP, neither of them have a lot of it left in their tanks.
Unfortunately, I have to swap both of them out.

I’d like to overcome many difficulties with this.
There are many groups of monsters led by Majins.
Something like the encounter the other night could happen again.
This W5 map has fewer trees than the W6 map, making it difficult to use the terrain to my advantage.
If we get surrounded all at once, it’s over.

So let’s start with this lineup tonight.

I’d like to encounter some monsters as I travel.
The ones I’m wishing for the most are Airavatas.
White Elephant Tusks are juicy.
It’s the main material for the spear-type weapons I’m currently using, and I really don’t mind having more of that in reserve.
I can use them to make spears and sell them to other players, or exchange them for items.
Either way, they make for a bright future.

Racchangos are probably the second best monsters for me to encounter.
Well, although they have a low chance to drop any items at all, I still can’t process any Red Crystals I might get from them.
So I’ll have no choice but to sell them.
But simply getting them makes for a good haul.
There is no denying that.

What about Vetalas?
They’re the type of opponent on which I can use Sense Magic and Enchanted Weapon and just go wild.
I don’t have to think about anything.
Being able to just go wild feels refreshing, but…
They drop no items.
That’s my only disappointment when it comes to them.

Cloud Slimes are troublesome.
I can make a fine profit off the Rivalry Stones I might get from them.
If I see it as an opportunity to train my Tree Magic, I can even tolerate being poisoned by them.
But, you know…
They stink!
Can I turn off the sense of smell under Sensory Settings?
But that’s time consuming, and I don’t think it’s worth doing at the expense of interfering with my other senses.

There is no doubt that the best thing would be to have Majins come to me.
If they’re riding Airavatas, then that would be great, but if they come riding on Lesser Gryphons instead, that’s fine too.
I don’t even mind them riding on Svadilfari Slaves.

So, what will be coming?

…Why is it my first set of battles ending with a Cloud Slime?!

Oh, if I could only burn this away…
I don’t even care about the poison.
Even after blowing it away, the stench remains in my nose.
You blasted game management…
This is nothing short of harassment!

Be patient, endure this as long as you can get some Rivalry Stones out of them…

And Shishiku…
Are you really okay slurping up one portion of the Cloud Slime’s corpse despite the stench?
It’s okay as a marker, but…
That’s taking eating strange food a little too far!

What’s my current weapon of choice?
It’s back to basics.
I’m using the Petrified Wood Staff.
It’s been a while since I’ve used a staff, so I’d like to get a feel for it.

My next opponents are a group of Vetalas.
Well, they’re great for trying out many different things with.
They drop no items, though.

I’m worried about something.
It’s about Boosted Power.
When fighting on horseback, there’s no need to pay attention to any sensation that may feel out of place.
But what about weapons that rely on fine sensations?
Weapons that are relatively light compared to their actual strength are difficult to handle.
Normally, that’s how it should be.
If I don’t try this out now that I have the chance, I may regret it later at a critical moment.

Conveniently enough, there are nearly 30 Vetalas in this group.
Well, since they’re in human-like form, they look like a large group of people.
Even more conveniently, with these guys, there is no point in attacking anything other than the part that is attached to their main bodies.
The fact that there’s no point attacking anywhere else is great.
That makes them the perfect practice partners, though.

Now, what’s going to happen?

「Boosted Power!」

Then I get my staff ready.
Let’s start with the basics.
Poke, strike, side blow, mow, pin down.

How does it feel?

It’s no use.
I can’t use these guys as practice partners!
I give up halfway through.

My power has become so great that it’s a problem that goes beyond the way my weapon feels!

What happens when I try poking them with my staff?
The staff pierces through them.
A strike?
Instead of crushing them, it shreds them into pieces.
A side blow?
Sends them flying.
Mowing?
This not only sends them flying as well, but it also makes them spin and roll a hefty distance on the ground after falling.
What about pinning them down?
That alone kills them as they sink into the ground.

This is terrible.
Even the common sense aspects of my fighting techniques using a staff have been blown away.
This will require a change in awareness rather than a change in how a weapon feels.
I think it would be easier to get used to weapons that are specialized in a simple manner.
I have experienced fighting on horseback.
I’m worried about using Boosted Power with javelins.
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to control them properly.
On the other hand, a weapon like a mace would probably be better suited for this skill.
You don’t have to think about anything when swinging down a mace.

Ah, right.
I’m forgetting something important.
What about bare hands?
I could use it alongside grappling skills.

That’s right.
Just moving around is boring.
Let’s try using Call Monster to find my next opponents.
That sounds like a plan.

《【Fire Magic】Level Up!》
《【Water Magic】Level Up!》

There’s no way I’m trying this out now.
A herd of probably over 50 Racchangos, accompanied by an Airavata and a Majin Pantomime Master.
I didn’t call these guys with Call Monster; they’re a random encounter.

Will I be able to take on the Racchangos, which are monsters that look like a bigger cow, in hand-to-hand combat?
Normally, I wouldn’t.
There’s also the issue of size, as well as weight difference.
I think they’re well over ten times heavier than me… No, they’re twenty times heavier than me.
That’s the kind of opponent they are.

Can a person made of flesh and blood win in a head-on collision against a monster that is slightly larger than a minivan?
If they’re wearing armor, and with some luck, even a human might be able to survive such a thing.
That’s how it is.
Normally, they wouldn’t be able to win.
No matter how much power they have, there is no way to make up for the difference in weight.
That’s how it should be, but…

How would it work?
Stuff like jumping on top of their heads and twisting their necks…
Or even grabbing them by the side, sweeping off their front legs and flinging them away…
Or driving my fist into the side of their heads and destroying them completely…
Or delivering a knee strike to their throats and breaking their necks…
Or kicking them in the stomach and breaking their spines…

Some impossible things are happening.
This is just stupid.

Airavatas are even bigger.
What was it like?
Grabbing them by the tusks and pulling them out.
Grabbing them by the trunk and twisting it off.
Seizing their legs and breaking them.
Kicking the back of their knees and breaking them.
Plucking off their wings as soon as they try to use them to fly away.
How am I being able to grab them by their tusks and just do a one-armed shoulder throw on them?

Isn’t this animal abuse?
I’m against this kind of violence!

However, Joint Lock not being effective against Pantomime Masters thanks to their flexible bodies is a fact.
It’s strange that that’s the only thing that hasn’t changed.
