Chapter 328 Part 2

《【Light Magic】Level Up!》
《Summoned Monster『Telomere』 Level Up!》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》

As expected, Telomere didn’t get many chances to suck the Lesser Dragon’s blood.
So she was unable to absorb any MP.
But still, she managed to level up.
So it evens things out at least.
The monster dropped no items, though!

Telomere’s INT increased automatically upon leveling up.
Let’s choose SPI as her second stat increase.

But this puts me in an awkward position.
The W7 Map was mainly Spriggans and Spirits.
And I’m finding myself in the same situation here.
What kind of weapon should I use?
Since Demon Beasts move so fast, I would prefer to use a staff or tonfa against them.
But they can also fly around.

At any rate…
Might as well try them.
The Estoc and Pike.
Considering their long reach, they should be advantageous in some battles.
However, I need to be careful.
If Demon’s Beasts get too close, I won’t be able to use either of those weapons to defend myself.
In that case, I have to use Jericho as a wall and have other Summoned Monsters provide backup.

Alright.
Let’s start with the Estoc.
Now that I’m holding it in my hands again, it feels like such an extreme weapon!
It’s a thin and long sword, almost as long as a short spear.
And it can only be used for thrusting attacks since it has no blade.
What if the enemy gets too close?
In that case, I’ll have to try to kick them away.
Depending on the situation, I might have to prioritize evasion.
I have to keep attacking and maintaining the initiative; otherwise, things could get dangerous.
It seems to force me into a high-risk fighting style.
But this also comes with a high attack power.
I wonder what the true value of using this weapon will be…

《【Rapier】Level Up!》
《【Tree Magic】Level Up!》
《【Poison Resistance】Level Up!》

How did the Estoc do?
It seems to deal decent damage, and it’s also good for inflicting status abnormalities.
Still, it feels very awkward to use.
I know the theory.
I know it in my head, but it still doesn’t feel right.
Using Weapon Arts such as Retraite and Bond Arrière to keep my distance was also quite effective.
But I’m still not entirely convinced at an intuitive level.

What is the essence of Weapon Artes?
To subdue the opponent without letting them do anything.
I understand that this is but one type of Weapon Artes, but still…

It’s just that all I’m doing with this weapon is thrusting.
I mean, simplicity has its merits…
But it’s too straightforward, so it leaves no room for creativity.
That’s just not fun to me.
That’s right.
It’s not fun.

What about the results?
No complaints there.
There were some decently hard fights.
The Lesser Dragon Dark is especially worth fighting.
Although, despite being able to spot them using Call Monster, they don’t come to me when I actually call them, and I still haven’t gotten any items out of them!
What about the Lesser Dragons’ numbers?
There are some.
But not a lot of them.
Well, having a lot of them flying around would be too frightening!

As I move down the mountainside, the terrain gradually transforms into a forest.
In the process, I came across some strange sights.
A Lesser Dragon Dark, which should have been the closest, came into view.
I figured I’d go hunt it, but at that moment, something else beat me to the punch.
Another Lesser Dragon.
Its marker was yellow.
And it was accompanied by two more dragons which were there just observing.
As well as one Cloud Dragon
I see…
Training in the middle of the night like this?
No, the invading Lesser Dragon had already killed the Lesser Dragon – Dark I had found.
This was a hunt.
The Lesser Dragon was likely encouraging the growth of the younger dragons that had come along with it.

The Cloud Dragon looked at me.
What an intimidating presence!
I dared to look it straight in the eyes.
I felt like I would be attacked the moment I looked away.
But it doesn’t seem to be interested in me.
So I start to focus on the battle between the small dragons.

Sure.

Please, take as long as you need.

I’ll just go find another Lesser Dragon – Dark to beat.

I decide to leave the area at a brisk pace, not running away but distancing myself quickly.
I shouldn’t stick around any longer.
It’s not like I can steal their prey anyway.

《【Ice Magic】Level Up!》
《【Cold Resistance】Level Up!》

I tried using a Pike this time.
It’s even more extreme than the Estoc.
Do I think I’ll get used to it?
It seems like that will take some time.

What are its characteristics?
It’s longer than anything else I’ve used thus far.
Not only does it have much longer range than the Capture Rod of Torture, it’s also heavy.
So it’s hard to use.
Extremely hard to use, actually…

But its results are undeniable.
It’s especially useful against Snow Wyverns.
Countering an attack with a thrust deals significant damage.
Not only that…
But if the Pike’s butt end is fixed into the ground as I counter attack with it, the resulting thrust will deal a tremendous amount of damage.
It’s a very paradoxical weapon that, while very difficult to use, yields indisputable results.
It’s a bit perplexing.

Against Lesser Demons and Demon’s Beasts, I gave up on the Pike.
It can’t be swung around, and apart from the initial thrust, it hardly lands any attacks on them by just trying to poke at them.
And I’ll often let go of it so I can intercept their attacks bare-handed.
This happened way too often during my battles with them.

The Pike works reasonably well against Lesser Dragon – Darks.
However…
If they get too close, it suddenly becomes a much less convenient weapon.

Like the Estoc, the Pike is a good weapon.
I can see that very well.
But whether I can handle either well is another issue.
It will definitely take time.

I’ve walked quite far north, right?
Although there are some forest areas here and there, this place is mostly a wasteland.
Because of that, I haven’t been able to cover much distance.
And the number of monsters seems to be increasing the farther away from the area portal I go.
However, Lesser Dragon – Darks are an exception.
I’m seeing much less of them now.
And these guys are starting to appear in their place.

What about its size?
It’s no different than a Lesser Dragon – Dark’s.
Its silvery appearance suggests a potential danger.
Sharp protrusions resembling swords or blades cover its entire body.
How am I supposed to deal with this?

I have high hopes for Jericho and Telomere here.
Still…
Other unexpected methods might also be effective.

Volff can distract it.
Would that be just barking at it?
No, it’s not just that.
Getting it distracted will cause the monster to have an increased delay between each of its attacks.

And Raibun’s lightning strikes.
They don’t lead to Paralysis.
But they still deal a pretty good amount of damage/

I see…
Is that so?
Alright, then.

I’ll use lightning as well!

Well, Jericho was the one who finished it off.
Hmm.
Well, all’s well that ends well, right?

And this one dropped no items.
I wonder if this isn’t something helpless…
If I focus only on items, hunting Snow Wyverns seems to be the most profitable, right?
It makes no sense to keep hunting these ones, huh?

Now…
Obsidian’s MP bar is starting to get very low.
So it’s time to switch him out for Ninetails.
Let’s recall Raibun as well.
I’ll replace him with Oma.
And while I’m at it…
I’ll switch Jericho out for Senki as well.
I’ve come this far…
At the very least, I want to take a look at what’s on the neighboring Map.
This wasteland is finally turning into a plain, making it easier to move around.
So let’s pick up the pace.

《【Steam Magic】Level Up!》
《【Dash】Level Up!》
《【Endurance Run】Level Up!》
《【Poison Resistance】Level Up!》

Yeah.
Snow Wyverns are delicious.
Thrown weapons hit them nicely if the timing is right.
That caused some good damage to them.

It’s not just me.
Senki too.
He threw rocks that were lying around at them.
About only half of them actually hit the monsters, but when they did, they caused huge damage.
Some hit directly on the head, causing them to lose consciousness.
How scary…
Throwing rocks is not allowed!

What time is it?
11:20 PM.
The next Map is up ahead.
Just as I noticed that, I encountered a Lesser Dragon Ripper and somehow won, but…
Come on, Senki!
You’re pushing it too far!
Repairing equipment is no easy task, you know?
That’s what I want to say.
Holding the monster’s neck under his arm and trying to break it was reckless!
Though he did end up breaking its neck.

Well, I can repair it later.
This Lesser Dragon – Ripper actually dropped an item!
It was this thing:

【Material】 Lesser Sword Dragon Claw Raw Material Grade B Rarity 7 Weight 1+
The claw of a Lesser Dragon – Ripper. It is thin and slightly curved.

Rarity 7!
Even for a Lesser Dragon, dragons are truly remarkable for the things you can get out of them!

How long is it?
It feels like I can hold it by its base with my hand and use it as a short sword as is.
Yeah.
It’s meant to be turned into a short sword!
There’s no mistaking that.
What about its weight?
There doesn’t seem to be any problems there.
It feels heavy for its length.
Should I look forward to making a weapon with this?

The time is 11:50 PM.
We’ve crossed the border with the neighboring Map.
The surroundings are forests.
But I’m out of time for today.
Let’s deploy an Instant Portal here and log out.
But before that…
Let’s use Call Monster to check the surroundings.

There they are.
I’ve found something.
A Chimera.
And there’s also a Lamia.
The levels are somewhat low, right?
This map is N3E12.
I’d like to advance a bit more to get a good idea of how things are around here…

No, let’s stop here.
I should keep my usual pace.
That’s it for today.
Tomorrow, let’s see if I can make a short sword or a knife with the Lesser Sword Dragon Claw before breakfast.
By the way…
What should I do about its scabbard?
It seems that my only option for that is to carve it out of a suitable piece of wood.
