Chapter 217 – On the Eve of the Manchurian Incident (8)

After handing over the money and goods to Kawashima-san and leaving the rest to Sebastian, I headed for Dalian.

There were two reasons. The first was to establish an alibi: to maintain the pretense that I had not gone anywhere near the Liaohe Oil Field, and that I had merely come to Dalian again after ten days.

The second was to make that lie into fact, by arranging a reunion with Ishiwara Kanji and Doihara Kenji, the two men who had broken their previous promise.

However, since I did not yet want to attract attention, the ship I used transferred me to a small boat chartered from Ootori’s Dalian branch just off Dalian Port, and the main vessel promptly departed Dalian as soon as we disembarked.

Moreover, the ship itself was concealing its true capabilities, and at normal speed it would have taken
