A crystal orb flashed for only a moment more before the video feed cut off and the orb fell on top of a desk with a small…

*thud*

As it rolled around for a second, just before it threatened to fall over the edge and onto the floor it was caught and squeezed tightly in equal parts confusion and wonder.

(So his name is Kazuki and he was once a hero, now that is interesting. Why King Garn wants to capture him though, there’s no answer here.)

*Tok tok tok*

Someone knocked at the door.

“Who is it?”

“Boss! it’s me!”

The man sitting behind the desk waved his hand and the door unlocked.

“Enter.”

The door swung open without mercy and almost flew off the handle as a man covered in blood came in and knelt before Degra. Behind him two more people entered, the two carried in a corpse and gently set it on the floor before they two knelt down beside the first man.

Degra stood up and scanned them with his eyes.

“What in the 7 realms of hell. A corpse, explain, now!”

The man in the center saluted Degra before he glanced at the body and back at his boss.

“Boss, it was the yellow bitches subordinate. Our guy was caught off guard by one of her subordinates and was slain before having his recording crystal orb stolen.”

The man in the center went quiet for a moment before he continued with hatred in his voice.

“Boss, that yellow-haired bitch, she now knows what you know.”

Degra slowly came out from behind his desk and checked the corpse with his eyes. Whoever got him was efficient but Degra’s man also put up a bit of a fight.

(A stab to the neck, slashed through the artery. He was bleeding profusely but he has defensive wounds on his hands as though he landed a few blows. There’s also a wound on his inner thigh. Another artery cut through. After taking the wound to his leg he must have collapsed before he bled out. The assailant then took the recording crystal and left. My man couldn’t even call out for help with a slashed throat. Two blows and my man was defeated. Now she has the orb same as me so know I should consider she knows at least as much as I do, dammit.)

Degra looked at the three men before him and they all felt shivers down their spines.

“Bbboss, we…”

“SILENCE!”

The man speaking slammed his mouth shut and bit down into his tongue, severing a small chunk of it. Blood and pain racked his brain but he did not dare say a word after Degra silenced him.

“You all were supposed to watch one another’s backs. I don’t expect perfection from you lot but fuck, you can’t even at least locate the person who did this and take them out. For fuck’s sake did you even see the man’s face or get any clues about the person that did this. Is this all I can expect from…”

Degra was about to chew into them even further when a man barged in. He was dressed as an official and was covered in a cold sweat. He ignored the body on the floor and quickly knelt before shouting.

“Boss, it’s an emergency! The City Lord and Triska have plotted against you!”

Degra was already in a foul mood and now one of his rats came in shouting about plots. Degra waved his hand and the door slammed shut and locked as to make sure no one overheard them.

“Official Jhai, speak clearly, what has happened?”

This official called Jhai went over everything that happened in Thakriss’s office. He told them that Triska had mentioned that Kazuki was in Gentis city with the sole purpose of helping Degra enter the 4th stage. When official Jhai said this, Degra was taken aback, which in turn surprised official Jhai. Jahi wasn’t finished though and explained how Triska got Thakriss to agree that it was time to remove Degra permanently. Every sentence that came from official Jhai filled Degra with a sense of crisis as well as anger.

Finally, when Jhai was finished, Degra was at the point he could take no more and he kicked the corpse in front of him.

The corpse flew into the wall and was crushed to pieces, splattering blood guts bone, and everything else all over the place. The four men who knelt on the ground were too close to this mini-explosion of flesh and were covered in gunk, yet they knew better than to move carelessly in such a situation. Even Degra was covered in blood but he didn’t care. He proceeded to pick up his desk and throw it against the wall as well, shattering it to bits.

Degra was furious beyond belief.

“TRISKA! THAT BITCH TRULY WISHES FOR EVERYTHING I HAVE SHE’LL GO THIS FAR!!”

Degra’s eyes shined for a moment and the four men all went pale. They felt their lungs freeze and their hearts stop. The four began to choke and gasp out but it was of no use. They were all paralyzed on the spot and couldn’t move. Degra watched as the men were on the verge of death before he realized what he was doing and turned away, shutting his eyes.

The four men fell over to the ground coughing and gasping desperately as they filled their lungs with air. Their hearts once more began to beat but even that hurt at first. After they finally caught their breath, they wondered what they should do but with Degra standing there silently, none would dare interrupt his thoughts.

(So Triska is willing to use Kazuki as a pawn to finally be rid of me. Fine, if that’s how she wants to play, I’ll play. Even if Kazuki wasn’t planning on leaving the city and meeting whoever that person was that threw a boulder into the city and threatened him, now that Triska has convinced the City Lord and made a deal, they’ll force him out. Thakriss will do this because Triska made him believe that I need Kazuki to enter the 4th stage. He thinks that if Kazuki leaves, then I will be forced to follow him out of the city and protect him from whoever was threatening him. By this logic, they have some confidence in beating that person as well as me. Fools.)

“Jhai, why would the City Lord go along with this so easily.”

“Boss, you should know better than all of us what Thakriss fears most. He doesn’t wish to lose his power, his precious city, and all the benefits and authority that it brings him. With this recent incident, he thinks that King Garn may investigate and blame him. As we all know, King Garn has cleaned up shop. Anyone that’s given him even a hint of incompetence, rebellion, or flashed an ounce of wrongdoing and his Majesty has either removed them completely from power and stripped them of everything or he’s just killed them. Not even the nobles have been left off. Thakriss has been careful so far but this incident would be more than enough for King Garn to have someone investigate. All they need to do is dig an inch under the surface and it won’t be hard to find out a few of the City Lords misdeeds. Thakriss wants to end everything as quickly as possible and with you gone, he thinks he can manage Triska and the aftermath.”

(So I’m the number one problem and he also thinks I brought Kazuki here. Which means he thinks I brought whoever destroyed part of the city as well. Removing me is removing a large chunk of the problem and he thinks he can come to an agreement with Triska. He doesn’t even see that she’s leading him like a puppy. They plan on forcing Kazuki out of the city and in turn forcing me out to follow after him. At that point, I’m sure they will already have people lying in wait for an ambush. They think they can kill me so easily, good. Let’s keep letting them think that. Triska knows that I’ll figure out this much and she knows I’ll leave the city because she knows that this will also be my best opportunity to take out the City Lord. You truly think far ahead, don’t you. Good, I’ll go along with it but things will not end the way you believe.)

Degra unlocked the door and called someone in. A thin woman wearing a plain grey robe, carrying a plain grey staff saluted him.

“Boss, what is your will?”

“Give me the helmet and call all of my Mages and all of my men who have been enhanced, we go for war!”

The thin Mage trembled slightly with excitement. A ring on her finger flashed and an item flew out and landed in Degra’s hand. Degra eyed the helmet and felt a shiver just from holding it.

(Looks like I’ll have to use you once again. I must be cursed.)

Degra stored the entirely white helmet in his storage ring.

Looking at the four men in front of him he barked at them.

“What are you all still doing here sitting around like horse shit? You three return to the streets, I need eyes back on Kazuki. I need to know his every move 5 minutes ago, now get the fuck out of here!”

“And you Jhai, I need ears, I need to know Thakriss and Triska’s plan. Every detail needs to be collected and reported to me as quickly as possible, now leave!”

The official quickly saluted Degra before turning and running out of there as fast as possible. His breath, still ragged from before.

Degra yelled out of his office.

“Someone get in here and clean this shit up!… And bring me a fucking towel.”
