Thakriss began to weave through his own army, every now and again though he wasn’t very skillful and he would trample someone while making his escape.

Degra shook his head.

(Even running down his own people. What a piece of garbage.)

“Triska, I don’t want to be that guy but are you gonna put me down and go get Thakriss anytime soon, or would you like to see him walled off and fortified back in Gentis? I don’t think I need to say this but it’s clear I’ve won. Let go of whatever stubborn notions you have and take the deal. Do you really hate me more than you love your sister, because if so, then go ahead and strike me down but if you love her even a fraction more than you despise my guts, then I’d suggest you hurry up and put me down.”

Degra spoke calmly but an air of arrogance slipped in his tone at the end. The two locked eyes for a moment and Triska really did want to see Degra to his death but just past him, her sister lay unconscious in the red-headed man’s hands.

Triska stared at the peaceful expression on her sister’s face and her thoughts softened.

(Sister, of course, there’s no question I love you more.”

Triska turned back to Degra and gripped his collar tighter.

“My sister, as you know is my everything. If harm ever befalls her, whether you are involved or not, whether we’re in the middle of a city or in front of the king himself, I will hunt you with everything I have. I will raize the city to the ground and dig you out of whatever hole you’ve crawled away into to hide and with this hand…”

Triska gripped Degra’s shirt even harder and lifted him higher into the air. His feet left to dangle, Triska words sent a chill down his spine.

“I’ll reach into your chest and I”ll rip your still-beating heart from within and crush it in front of you.”

Triska then threw Degra to the ground and rose up into the air.

“Degra the snake, I will agree to your deal. From this day forth, half of the city is mine and the other half shall be yours.”

Degra rolled his eyes. The way she put it it was as if she were giving him half the city instead of him offering to split the city with her.

“Don’t you think you may be jumping ahead here. After all, things won’t be settled until that one is finished.”

Degra pointed at the still escaping Thakriss and Triska nodded.

“Right, he needs to be dead.”

Triska called her trident to her and snatched it out of the sky. Aiming at Thakriss’s back she cocked it back and then threw it.

*SHWWWWSH!*

The trident shot forward in a straight line.

*PSHICK*

The trident entered the city lord’s back and exited his front in one swift movement before stopping just before hitting the horse in which Thakriss rode on. A hot splash of blood splattered all over the horse, scaring it, causing it to buck wildly for a moment. Thakriss hadn’t the time to scream or usher even a cry of pain and fell off the horse dead.

Before he struck the ground though, Triska called her trident back to her side.

“Come.”

The trident rose into the air with Thakriss’s newly made corpse still attached to it and flew to Triska just as fast as it had been thrown. As it made its way back to her side, Thakriss’s blood rained down on several soldiers, causing a few to keel over and puke in disgust. Many of these men had never experienced war or death as they were still new to this and thus became nauseous seeing their first dead body.

Others though felt a sense of relief. They didn’t know where things stood right now but one thing for sure was they did not have to die this day. Add to the fact that the bastardly city lord was now dead, a few even became giddy thinking of the future.

Triska’s trident arrived in front of her and so to did the city lord’s dead body. She pointed her chin at Degra and her trident flipped, throwing Thakriss’s corpse from it and onto the ground.

“There you have it, the city lord is dead. Now fulfill your end and give me my sister.”

Degra was hesitant at first but knew he had to or he and Triska would be right back where they started. He was already all in though. If he tried to switch things up now or go back on his word, then there would only be destruction for the two.

Degra snapped his fingers and his man stepped forward. Triska landed in front of him ready to break his neck if she deemed any of his actions inappropriate toward her sister. Thankfully for the red-headed large man, he gave off no such ill intent and was as gentle as one can be. He handed over Triska’s sister as though she were a treasured, fragile flower and Triska took her into her arms. A warm and soft smile spread across her face as she caressed her sleeping sister.

Degra nodded.

“It seems our deal is almost finished. Once we get back we’ll split the city. We can get into more specific details later and decide which territories we each want but everything will be equal so there’s no need to worry about that.”

As soon as he began speaking, Triska felt as though a fly was buzzing in her ear with unnecessary things. This was her precious reunion with her darling sister and yet Degra insisted on being a nuisance. Triska’s trident began to slowly turn toward Degra and Degra grew weary and cautious of it.

(This woman doesn’t know when to quit.)

Just as she was teetering on the edge of using it or not, Degra spoke up.

“Are you already trying to renege on the deal, seriously!?”

Triska remained quiet though and looked at her sister once more.

“Why isn’t she waking, what have you done to her?”

Degra waved his hand in the air nonchalantly.

“Oh that, she’s simply had a sleeping agent. Do not worry this will pry her from her slumber.”

Degra opened his palm and a small vile appeared in his hand. He checked to see if it was right before tossing it to Triska. Triska eyed it suspiciously. She looked at a soldier in the crowd and barked at them.

“You! Come over here and try this!”

The random soldier in the crowd pointed at himself dumbfoundedly before slowly trying to back away. Triska’s trident flew forward and landed less than an inch from his neck.

“Are you trying to defy me?”

The man’s knees grew weak and he collapsed to the ground in terror, fainting on the spot.

Degra cut in.

“It simply a waking agent. A medicine so tame that a freshly born babe can take it with no harm. If you don’t believe me then toss it back. I’ll take it myself and prove your distrustful ways as wrong.”

Triska shook her head.

“Knowing you, I wouldn’t doubt you have something up your sleeve. This could be poison and you being the handler of such would naturally have the antidote. Being as cunning as you are, you would already have taken it. You really expect me to trust you?”

Degra nodded.

“Good point but then who might you suggest? Any soldier you randomly drag up will be too terrified and will probably die from fear.”

The two grew silent and the entire battlefield became tense. No one knowing what would happen next. At this time, Kazuki stepped forward.

“If no ones brave enough, I’ll take it.”

Degra and Triska both turned to Kazuki. Degra seemed intrigued.

(Does he trust in me that much?)

If Kazuki heard Degra’s thoughts he’d laugh in his face right now. Kazuki no longer held any trust in Degra, not after this whole hostage situation. It showed him that Degra would do anything to achieve his goals. Kazuki once thought like that as well and couldn’t blame Degra for his ways but that didn’t mean he would keep trusting him just because he understands. No Kazuki was willing to step forward for three reasons.

One, Kazuki was confident when it came to poisons. Using his ki, he could filter them out of his body and basically destroy them from the inside out, or using his ki he could separate the poison directly from his bloodstream and push them out through his skin like sweat through pores. He didn’t know whether or not his ki could work on extremely dangerous ones but he doubted Degra would use an incredibly powerful poison to deal with a single ordinary woman.

Secondly, although he was distrustful of Degra, what he did trust in was Degra’s way of thinking forward. He knew Degra wanted to resolve things here and now and to feed Triska’s sister poison right now would be completely counter to Degra’s goals. So this pushed him, even more, to believe this wasn’t poison but rather something useful.

Thirdly, Kazuki was tired and wanted to get this over with and finished. The danger at least what he perceived to be dangerous had passed. At the same time though, if things weren’t solved here and now, with this tension built up and felt throughout the battlefield. Like a powder keg, it could all explode and all hell could break loose with a small trigger.

Triska stared at Kazuki and felt her hand still fighting away the pain. Most of it was melted away and she didn’t know if it could be completely recovered or not. Seeing his face right now was something she really did not wish for and anger began to bubble up within her. Kazuki ignored the daggers she stared at him and reached forward and snatched the small vial from her and popped the cork from it. taking a small yet visible sip for all to see, he swallowed it and stood there yet even after a few minutes, nothing happened.

Kazuki felt it course through his system and felt it enter his stomach. A warm and gentle feeling rose from his center and made its way into his head and he felt more alert.

Handing the vial back he smiled.

“See, nothings wro…”

Kazuki grabbed at his chest before he froze on the spot and fell forward. Everyone who witnessed this felt a panic rush over them and Triska and Degra both eyed each other. A million different thoughts racing through their heads. Just as Kazuki was about to hit the ground, suddenly he did a forward roll on the ground and popped back up on his feet, smiling at everyone.

“Hmm, yep, nothing wrong with it.”

If there was a sound to it, you would have heard thousands of jaws dropping right here and now from everyone. Hundreds of people felt as though they had just gone through life and death with that stupid prank just now and all at once, hundreds of people began shouting.

“ASSHOLE!”
