【Sam’s POV】
“Who the fuck are you, you pervert!”
Susan demanded as she took out her sword and pointed at me.
All right, I was expecting such a development but still was hopeful that it wouldn’t proceed that way. Damnit.
“W-Wait a minute, Susan! You are getting it wrong!”
Liera walked up to her and tried to calm her down. I also got up from my position and dusted my clothes.
“Huh? Wait, Liera? What are you doing here? No, before that! Just where is that bastard Lucius?!”
Susan sheathed her sword, grabbed Liera’s shoulders and started shaking her.
“Liera! Lucius betrayed us! Just before I could deliver the final blow to Balgaar and kill him once and for all, Lucius betrayed me and stabbed me in the back! Because of him I couldn’t give that last final push and Balgaar survived! He saved Balgaar!”
He saved Balgaar? Wow. Guess there’s one thing I can be grateful to him for. Now I know why Balgaar didn’t rise to power as soon as his injuries healed. I’m sure in return for saving his life, Azell aka Lucius asked Balgaar to lay low for a while. Balgaar, as a Lord of Hell, was a man of honour and pride, that’s why he would have complied: he would never let himself be in debt of anyone. Moreover, for someone like Balgaar, the span of 5000 years is not even too large to begin with.
And that’s why Azell sent us- both me and Regina- to that dungeon. He knew that Balgaar was there, and that he would kill any who trespassed on his territory.
But the way Balgaar talked to us………. It was as if he was waiting for us. Maybe Azell informed him that we were coming?
“Yeah, we know.”
Regina replied.
“Huh who are you? Wait, this mana……………. Regina?! You are here as well? What happened to your appearance? And wait, isn’t that Shiggurath? What are all of you doing here?”
Susan asked with a confused expression. She finally looked around and saw everyone. Chloe was standing behind Jack, so Susan couldn’t see her face.
“Now that I look, everyone except Lucius is here. And who is that man? Is he Lucius?”
“No.”
Jack curtly replied.
“That’s what he would have said. Come out, Lucius, and fight me like a man! You’ve always been good at transformation magic, but you are not going to fool me again!”
Jack sighed. And what does she even mean by ‘Fight like a man’? That’s discrimination, oi!
“Look, Ms. Susan Invern. I’m not Aze- Lucius. The Lucius you are talking about is already dead. Please ask the people standing behind you to fill you in on the details.”
Jack calmly explained to her. Good job, Jack.
“Dead?”
“Yes.” Regina answered. “I’ll start explaining, but promise me you’ll not panic.”
“That would depend on what you’ll say.”
Susan answered calmly, perhaps because she understood that the situation was much different from what she was expecting.
“Haaah, fine.” Regina sighed. “I’ll tell you frankly. Lucius the traitor has finally been defeated in the 6th Holy War.”
“Sixth Holy War……?”
“Yes. It’s been 5000 years since you were betrayed by Lucius and imprisoned, and a lot of things happened during that time.”
“A hella lot of things. I sank into despair, Regina was used as a tool, I was horribly defeated and ruthlessly plunged into the depths of despair by a Monster, while all of us were manipulated.”
Liera added.
“And when we had accepted our fates, we were then made to dance on the tunes of a Monster- no, Monsters far more dreadful than anything we had encountered before.”
And Shiggurath supported her. I wonder just who are the monsters they are talking about.
“And by the end, Lucius was defeated and mercilessly killed by those two Monsters.”
Okay I know who those two monsters are. Geez, these guys are so disrespectful.
“Oh, and Olivia and Reygus finally married.”
Liera finally added.
“H-Hey!”
Olivia blushed. Susan remained in a daze for a moment as the torrent of information was too large for her to process right now. After a while, she spoke up.
“By the way, just when did Olivia and Reygus marry?”
“At the ripe old age of 2547.”
What the actual fuck?
“Yeah, just as I expected. So, it took you two this long to realise each other’s feelings, huh.”
These two are the densest motherfuckers I have ever seen! Even shounen MCs aren’t this dense!
Susan giggled. But she stopped, and after one big long sigh, she finally murmured.
“I see, so everything has already ended………. And what happened to Balgaar?”
“Don’t kno-”
Liera tried answering, but before she could do that, Regina interjected.
“He was also killed.”
“What?!”
Everyone in the room shouted.
“Balgaar was killed?! When?! Who killed him?! Was it you?!”
Susan grabbed Regina and asked her.
“No. It was the Monster we were talking about. And he did it single-handedly.”
“Someone defeated Balgaar just by himself? Just what kind of monster is that person…..?”
Aww come one, not you too Susan! Regina looked at me and smirked. I’ll get you for this Regina.
“So… I guess everything really is over, huh? Lucius and Balgaar both have been defeated after all.”
Susan finally asked.
“Yeah.”
And Liera replied.
“I see.”
Susan murmured, jumped at Liera and hugged her tightly.
“S-Susan……?”
Liera asked while hugging her back.
“Sorry, I just couldn’t control myself after meeting you again. The same goes for everyone else, so can you please drown me in hugs until I’m satisfied?”
Tears filled their eyes again, and they jumped at the duo to hug them tightly. Susan was practically drowned into hugs just like she wanted. All of they were sniffing their tears, some whimpering softly. Regina was crying loudly though.
What a touching reunion.
⟦Won’t you join them, you sinful man?⟧
Fuck off.
I brushed off the brat inside me.
⟦Like I said-⟧
Fuck off.
⟦You-!⟧
Lalalalalalalala I cannot hear anything lalalalalalalalala.
I could feel her getting angry, but there was no need to specifically pay any attention to her. Maxwell is more than capable of that.
⟦Oi!⟧
Like I said, I cannot hear anything.
The group of women- Reygus didn’t join them, what a faithful husband- which seemed would start something forbidden finally dispersed, and Susan came out with her hair dishevelled. Wait, just what were they doing to her?
“Thank you, everyone.”
Susan smiled while wiping her tears. She then turned to the Commandments.
“My invitation extended to you guys as well, you know.”
But Abdiel just frowned and clicked his tongue in displeasure.
“You want me to touch a filthy pest like you? Never!”
“Haha, you are still the same, Abdiel.”
But instead of being offended, Susan just giggled pleasantly.
“But…..”
Abdiel started.
“It’s good to have you back, Hero.”
He gently smiled. The other commandments behind him nodded.
“Un.”
Susan smiled widely as well. Just then-
“Susan.”
Chloe called out to Susan, causing her to turn around.
Wait, isn’t their meeting bad?
I prepared to send a message through Communication magic to Susan to stop her, but Chloe was one step faster than me.
“It’s been a long time, Susan.”
…………….Eh?
“Chloe!”
What did she say just now?
“Yes, it’s me. Chloe Evans, your best friend.”
Friend? She called Susan her friend? How is that possible?
“Chloe!”
Because if she called Susan her friend, then-
“Yes, I am Chloe.”
-that means she has regained her memory.
Susan ran up to Chloe and tightly hugged her, crying in the process. Chloe also hugged her back and tears were flowing from her eyes as well.
In front of me was the scene where two individuals important to me were hugging and celebrating their reunion. It’s been very long since they last met, and as someone who was once involved in both of their lives, I know that right now the expression I should be making is one of bliss. I should be warmly smiling at them, and maybe join them. I should be giddy inside and feel happy for them.
However, I know.
I know just what kind of expression I am making right now. I know just what I am feeling right now.
And so, my eyes, colder than ever before, turned to the perpetrator who created this entire sham, and on her face was a gentle smile. But that smile never reached her cold eyes which were staring straight into my soul.
