【Liera’s POV】
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
The familiar message once again blinked in front of me once again. I see, so that approach won’t help me. I’ll have to try something else.
And so, I answered yes. Consciousness returned to my body, and I could make out my surroundings once again.
Jack was standing at his place as usual. He hadn’t moved a single inch.
“Can you try a bit harder please? I have built up a lot of stress over these past days, and would like to release all of it.”
Huh, so he’s using me to relieve stress. Guess his title as the Lord of hubris wasn’t for nothing.
But I’m not finished yet!
I tried a frontal approach once again, except this time I used double the mana for my body strengthening and supercharging my senses. My muscles creaked from the sheer pressure I was putting on them and my bones cracked.
Faster than before, I was in front of him once again, the tip of my sword just millimetres away from piercing his right eye.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
Only to find myself in this darkness again. All right, seems like the frontal approach is a big no no. I once again answered yes to the question that had appeared in front of me, and once again Jack was standing at his place.
This time I collected mana in Triskellion and smashed it into the ground, thus creating a crater, and along with it a cloud of dust. Using the same body strengthening as before, I circled around him and attacked from behind, with my sword on its way to penetrate his heart.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I immediately answered yes and was back in my body. For some reason I was still in front of Jack, who let out a heavy yawn. Even the man named Walter was sitting on the ground at some distance from us and drawing something with a stick.
I guess they do deserve to be this haughty, but I’m not done yet!
This time, I created a clone using the secret cloning technique Regina had once taught me. My clone appeared with a different sword. We attacked Jack from the front, but just before reaching him we split in opposite directions to attack him from two sides.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes once again. This time I made 4 clones, my maximum limit right now and attacked him from 5 different directions!
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
Shit! I answered yes again. I created 4 clones again, but this time I let them use magic spells to support me from behind and lunged at Jack.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes again. This time, instead of using the sword, I tried to use the Indra’s Wrath on Jack. But before my spell could be completed-
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes again and fought him.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes again and using clones and illusion magic spells, I lunged at him.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes again. I created the clones again and dispersed them in different directions to use different large-scale magic spells.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes again.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I answered yes.

⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I hesitated a bit this time, but answered yes again. He was once again in front of me, his prideful eyes looking down on me.
“Tired yet?”
He asked with a really bored look on his face.
No! I can still fight!
And so, I created 6 clones, my current maximum limit. 3 of them hurled magic spells at Jack, the other 3 physically attacked him while I stayed behind to use the forbidden technique that I created some deaths ago. Using my own heart as a sacrifice, I completely turned it into mana. Overwhelming amount of mana overflowed from my body, though I only had 5 seconds to use it. So I used all of that mana in my limbs and dashed at Jack, my sword going straight for his chest.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I hesitated a bit but answered yes again. I tried the same thing as the last time, except that along with me one clone also did the same. With our abilities cranked out to the max, we lunged at Jack from the opposite directions.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I hesitated a bit but answered yes again. This time, instead of using the extra mana to physically attack him, I used it to cast several large-scale magic spells simultaneously, and this time I succeeded in casting them, thus entrapping Jack between them. Though I immediately died due to the loss of my heart.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
Full of hope, I answered yes. But what entered my eyes was the scene of Jack standing perfectly fine. The gouged out and melted ground around him told me that my attack had hit, but he was perfectly fine. He simply shrugged and beckoned me to come at him again.
“Aaarrghhh!”
In a fit of rage, I lunged at him from the front.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
All right, wait. Maybe I don’t need to immediately answer yes and go back. I should use this time in this darkness to come up with a plan. Oh god, what am I an idiot?! What didn’t I think of this earlier!?
Anyway, all of my plans haven’t worked so far. The mana I gain from sacrificing my heart isn’t enough. I have to sacrifice some more. Maybe my brain? But then I won’t have the necessary mental capacity required to attack him. I’ll sacrifice all other organs except the brain, that should provide me with enough power.
So, I answer yes again. I swiftly created 6 clones again, ordered them to attack Jack, and using the method I had thought up of I created a humongous pool of mana and attacked Jack.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
Maybe just the mana is not enough. I need to use it in just one single spell to kill him.
I still hesitated a bit, but I overcame that and answered yes again. And this time, I used my mana to create and cast a new magic spell.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I hesitated a bit but answered yes again. Just fuck this shit!!
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I hesitated a bit but answered yes.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I hesitated a bit but answered yes.
⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
I hesitated a bit but answered yes.

⟦You have died. Would you like to try again?⟧
Just what is happening?! Why can’t I fight him?! He has been killing me over and over and over and over and over and over and over, yet I haven’t even scratched him! I haven’t even touched him for fuck’s sake! I cannot perceive his attacks, the sheer strength of his attacks is nonsensically overwhelming, and he is looking down on me like I’m filth! He doesn’t even see me as an opponent! What’s the use of fighting?! All those attempts haven’t made any difference. I have already fought for more than a million times, and I have gotten much stronger than before, but the gap between us just keeps on increasing! He just keeps on killing me again and again!
What will happen if I answer yes here? I will go out and die again.
Then what is the use of fighting?
No! I must fight!
But can I win?
I will win!
No, I can’t. I can’t win against him. I can’t win against that monster.
But the thought of giving up here is infuriating! I must not give up!
Yet there is nothing that I can do. This is fine, right? I always wanted to die.
But what about the promise I made to Susan?!
It’s fine. She’s not alive, so it doesn’t matter anymore.
I am going to break the promise?!
Yes, I am. I have lived enough, fought enough. There’s nothing for which I can live, for which I can fight, so it’s only natural that I will die.
Am I really sure? Would I really fail Susan again?
Yes, I am sure. Susan has passed on, it’s time for me to move on as well. I will decline my weapon’s offer. I will choose ‘No’ and embrace death.
I’m sorry Susan……
Yet, as soon as I answered ‘No’ to the question my weapon was asking me, sparks flew around the message. The letters squirmed like maggots and changed shape, and what appeared before me was a new message.
⟦Where you going, Liera Von Vetto? I am not done with you yet.⟧
