【Sam’s POV】
“Ah, what a lovely party of Heroes we have here.”
Okay, wait a second here. This is the third time I’ve been interrupted with such impeccable timing. The worst part is that I can totally imagine them hiding and waiting for the right opportunity to introduce themselves.
Anyway, I turned back to welcome the visitors.
“Oh, hello there. To what do we owe the pleasure of the Demon King personally paying a visit?”
Flowing black hairs which were arranged in a wavy hairstyle, two black horns protruding out from his forehead, and eyes the crimson of blood.
It was the leader of the Ten Asuras and the Demon King of this world, Solomon El Maxwell.
“Long time no see, Samael.” Solomon smiled. “I had an unfinished business to take care of. Didn’t expect to run into you.”
Yeah, as if I’m gonna believe that.
“I see. That totally makes sense, doesn’t it?”
“Yeah.” He shrugged. “I can see that you guys were having a moment there, so perhaps I should stop bothering you and proceed with what you were doing.” He turned to Cecile. “What do you say, Princess?”
“I’d say you are right. Piss off.” Cecile replied with a cold tone.
“Cold as ever.” Solomon’s shoulders drooped down, and then turned to others. “Well, good evening kids, uh, I mean, Heroes. So I heard everything that you were talking about, and I must say, I’m impressed.”
See? He was waiting for the right opportunity.
“Oh, really?” Sherry scoffed.
“No, I really am. So tell me, Michael, what do you plan to do now?”
“Kill you, perhaps.” That flaming-
⟦Arghh, stop!⟧ Simone retorted from inside me. ⟦When are you going to stop insulting him?!⟧
⟦Dunno, maybe when he keels over and dies?⟧
⟦So you’re going to invent a new curse every time you refer to him?⟧
⟦Hmm, you’re right, that could be exhausting. Let’s settle on a permanent one. Any suggestions?⟧
⟦Well… I totally loved that ‘weak pull-out game’ one.⟧
⟦Thank you, but that seems kinda long. How about something shorter?⟧
⟦I don’t know, maybe Douchel or Michass?⟧
⟦Michass it is.⟧
So, Michass glared at Solomon.
“Yeah, I meant something more realistic. Like, how are you going to approach this whole Hero thing from now on?”
You know what, I’m also interested in that.
“Go ahead, answer him, Michas-el.”
“What? Really-” He looked at me with an agape mouth, but I simply nodded. “Okay, fine.” He sighed. “Well, aside from Solomon, I don’t really want to kill anyone. So maybe I’ll do just that and-”
Before he could finish his sentence, I crouched and started looking for something. I upturned a few rocks, and even dug a bit.
“What are you doing?” Cecile asked while furrowing her brows.
“Well, Michael dropped something, so I’m finding it for him.”
“What? I didn’t drop anything.” Michael exclaimed.
“But I clearly saw and heard you drop it.”
“Really? What?”
“Your brain you absolute buffoon!” I stood up as Solomon snickered. “Not kill anyone? Damn! You know what, forget that. Here.” I tossed him a bag full of coins.
“What’s this?” He held it in his hand and asked.
“I’m paying you 100 gold coins to fuck off.”
I’m never going to financially recover from this. That was my life’s savings! But it should be enough to set him up to a nice, quiet life where he doesn’t have to kill anyone. Arghh, all that effort, for nothing!
“Okay, okay, I understand!” Michael let out a big sigh. “Not killing anyone; bad idea.”
“Oh, you do?”
That is surprising. I’d been worried he had suddenly become a knight of justice, the type that I absolutely abhor.
“Yes, so you can have this back.” He handed me back my coins.
“Thank you very much.”
Ah, thank god I’m not going to become poor.
“Huh, you’ve certainly improved.” Solomon suddenly started clapping his hands. “Seems like you’re no longer the brat that attacked me some time ago. Perhaps you are now a Hero. I hope that goes for the rest of you as well. Samael did a good job.”
Uh, hello?
“What’re you getting at, Solomon?” Sherry demanded, clearly pissed.
“I mean, Samael did exactly what I feared he would do; turn you into proper Heroes.” Solomon retorted.
Ah, so he’s trying to paint me as the mastermind here. Well, I’m not too interested in getting the credit, but I suppose it could help smooth over some things.
“So maybe, I should give you the respect you deserve and introduce you to my own Hero.”
Oh?
“What?” Lantz yelped.
“Come on in.” He beckoned behind himself.
And out stepped two individuals. The man on the right made a courteous bow.
“I’m Jack Hargreave, the Dark Hero. Pleased to make your acquaintance.” He flashed a smile.
I turned my head towards Regina.
“What? I’m not going to do that!” But she snapped back at me.
I shrugged and faced Jack again. He had the same glossy, black hair and sharp, black eyes, but his face was considerably different now. So much so that no one from Earth or Phiria’s world would recognise him.
“Fancy meeting you here, Sir Samael.” Jack greeted me.
“I could say that myself.”
“So there really was a Dark Hero…” Lantz muttered to himself.
Well, seems like this unplanned meeting has turned out to be more beneficial than expected. Hmm, no, considering that Jack and Solomon are now working together, this cannot be unplanned. There must be some meaning to it.
“And you must be Regina.” Cecile asked.
“Wait, you know me?” Regina enquired in return.
“Yes, we do.” Cecile furrowed his brows.
“Well, well, well. We have the Demon King, the sister of Demon King, and the Dark Hero, all of them, right here. What a joyous occasion!” I clapped.
“Yeah, shit.” Michass’ expression paled as the true meaning of my words finally dawned on him.
He instantly took up a defensive stance in front of Sherry, and his classmates followed.
“What exactly are you doing here, Solomon?” Cecile questioned him, now wary of him.
“I had originally come here to retrieve something, but I could not help but come check on you when I heard a commotion.” Solomon replied without any hint of mockery.
“We are not so damned that we would need your worry.”
“You are as cold as ever. Well, I’m used to it by now.” Solomon smiled bitterly.
Just how many meetings did these guys have?
Lantz marched and placed himself between the Heroes and Solomon, and took out his sword. Pointing it at Solomon, he said.
“Cecile, Samael. Take the Heroes with you and get out of here; I’ll hold them back till then.”
In times like these, it would have been customary for me to volunteer as well by saying something like ‘You cannot handle them alone’, and after a small argument, me and Lantz would have agreed to fight together and die by each other’s side.
What a poetic end, but of course, there was absolutely no need for something like that.
“You remain as hot-blooded as ever, Commander in Chief.” Solomon smirked. “It pains me incredibly to douse cold water on your burning desire to battle me, but I’m not here to do any fighting today.”
“As if we’d ever believe that.” Lantz snorted.
“You’re breaking my heart here. As I thought, Samael is the only one who understands me.”
Everyone now focused on me, so I was left with no choice but to take the stage.
“So you’re saying that you have no intention to fight us?”
Well, of course he doesn’t.
“Precisely.” He nodded with a smile.
“I’m glad to hear that.” I then turned to Regina, whose glare had been prickling me for this entire time. “Pleased to meet you, darling. How’s your training coming along?”
She shivered, probably because I called her darling.
“You have the audacity to ask me that, you motherfucker?” Her eyes twitched as she shouted. “How dare you leave me behind like that?!”
“Lovers?!” Lantz yelled in disbelief.
““Absolutely not!”” And the ones to answer his query were both Regina and Phiria.
“Eh?” His gaze alternated between both of them.
“And Jack-”
“Hey who are you ignoring?! I’ll fucking kill you!”
Regina remains as violent as ever. I should probably avoid her.
“You’re thinking something rude again, right?”
How the hell did she read my mind?!
“As I can see, Jack, you’ve been chosen as the Dark Hero.”
As expected, Jack was the best choice for that. That had been the plan anyway.
“It is all by your grace, Sir Samael.” Jack bowed respectfully. “Though it pains me greatly that you’re not here by our side anymore.”
“Well, what can I say? I found some interesting guys here.”
I pointed to behind me, though it goes without saying that all of them are dumbasses.
“Oh?” He stared at the Heroes behind me with a smile. “Exactly how are these bugs interesting?”
Don’t bring out your real personality here, Jack.
“You’ll find out soon enough. Just wait till then.”
“So be it then.”
“Now, Solomon.” I faced him. “What exactly are you here to retrieve?”
“That, actually.” He pointed behind me.
I followed the direction of his finger and found a large crystal jutting out from the ground. It was white in colour and translucent, so I could make out the figure of a vague something. Well, someone, to be more precise.
But before that.
“Wait, are those monsters?”
