ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 280: Sword Wolf Turns Out to Be a Thunderfire Beast Part 10 Part 1
「–––– From beyond the boundary, loud thunder roaring in the dark, echo of a strike reverberating far and beyond, that is the hammer of judgement that descends from the high heavens!」
I knew it. So that’s what this is all about, huh?
I was actually kind of expecting something like that. After all, there must have been a reason why Saiga-100 was unable to achieve that which Saiga-0 managed to achieve.
This is probably the thing that Saiga-100 excels at when it comes to this game…… Throughout the course of the battle, when we were clashing with one another, while casting spells, deploying her Sword Arts and evading, I could see and hear that she’s been chanting all this time. And the moment she used that “Stan Beat” earlier, I was about sixty percent sure of it.
Saiga-100 is a magic swordsman, one who controls both high level magic and possesses high level skills in wielding a sword.
「The poet sings, that is the prestige of God. The monk preaches, that is the God’s wrath and His punishment.」
「Now then……」
Right about now, there were three major routes I could take here. One was to stop the spell before she would be able to use it. Two, was to simply avoid it. And the three is…… Should I use it here……?
All of the options are pretty valid and great, especially the third one. It comes with its own difficulties, but it would allow me to create some window of opportunities for myself. But if I mishandle it even by a small amount, I might actually end up self-destructing without having accomplished anything.
Needless to say, I was going to choose the third option.
To be honest, this was no longer about victory or defeat for me. No matter if I end up winning or losing as the final result…… I feel that I would be able to just come to terms with is and say “Well, what’s done is done”. But if so, then what is the true nature of this strange urge that was guiding me right now? I already know what this is. After all, it is something that’s been with me for years now. It was something that was accompanying me ever since I started to play this game. And it is something that is going to be right here by my side in the future as well.
「How about we kick into another gear, huh?」
「Tell the truth –– it has no righteousness to it. It has no evil to it. It is pure and it is undeniable. An extreme violence.」
The chanting of the spells never stops. It must be depleting her MP constantly, but she must have prevented any loss from occurring by using the means that would recover her MP constantly, greatly making up for any MP that would be lost. This is just a simple player versus player battle, but for Saiga-100 that must not be the case. Otherwise she would not end up using resources that were far too precious and far too hard to obtain.
If that is really the case, then the only way for me to respond here is to go all out as well, both in my body and my soul…… because it is more romantic that way.
「Now then, since Meiki-kun managed to such a successful debut, it is now your turn to do the same…… Ladies and gentlepeople, I bring to you: Dis Pater!」
Right about now I can say that with utmost certainty, there is a coward amongst my weapons.
The shield truly did possess the ability to reflect magic attacks of all kind, but by possessing that ability it was only concealing the fact that it was in fact a true industrial waste.
It was technically a Legacy Weapon as well, one of Break’s excellent craftsmanship, following the Scorpion Gauntlets that she made for me all that time ago. A piece of the old technology brought back to life by the contemporary means.
It is a weapon made out of the materials salvaged from the Atlantic Reaperorca, and it possesses a reasonable amount of durability, followed by the gimmick of increasing its size. Add to it the effect of repealing magic and you have a real piece of work here…… That much is true.
But this little fella was hiding a secret.
In the first place, both of this weapon’s mode “Exceed Charge” can be divided into several categories, shared with other Legacy Weapons at that.
In other words, that ability is not something that is unique to every weapon, but you could think about it like the same ability as the Scorpion Gauntlet’s “Pillar Ejection”, but with different use mean do something completely different.
Then, what was the exact purpose of the Dis Pater’s “Exceed Charge”?
The answer here is simple: if certain conditions are met, the overdrive of the shield will give its user a powerful buff……
Yes, and that buff is pretty powerful, indeed.
Thinking about it like that, this weapon and its ability is the polar opposite of the situation we had with Meiki here, where initially it seemed to be garbage, but it turned out to be something truly impressive over time. That being said, it goes to show that you cannot actually judge the usefulness of the weapon’s abilities solely by reading them and without actually having tested them in the field.
But as for this moment now.
My best shot at defeating Saiga-100 here is to use the buff that the Dis Pater gives me, and then go all out with the “Exceed Charge” ability and hope for the best.
「Scream! The laughing iron mallet, smash the ground beneath me and crush the enemies that dare to stand in my way!」
Half-naked and dual wielding. This version of Sanraku, specializing mostly in mobility, is only but one facet of the real Sanraku, his ShangriLa Frontier version, so to speak.
There was once a shitty game that had a system that could be abused so much by the players that it actually ended up breaking the game and causing the end of any support for it. This game was called “UIE”, Under Idea Empire. In this game I was a part of the faction that caused an evil rebellion on a huge scale, a so called “Death Metal Magician”. It is from this game that I have earned some of my insight when it comes to magic in games.
What is important in the magic warfare in games, is the way in which the game defines magic. If the system defines a spell as fire, this is exactly what you can expect. If it defines something as “Meteor”, you can also expect how the spell is going to work.
But there are some games in which the name of the spell does not indicate its nature or how it is supposed to work. In that case you have to actually use the spell and find it out for yourself. But in case of ShanFro, the former rule applies to magic, so no worries here.
