CHAPTER 112: SUZU’S TEST *3* PART 1

After we managed to get through the second test that Suzu-san came up with……

We went back to our house at once and waited for the night to fall.

Suzu-san said that she wanted us all to take on the final test after nightfall.

So we waited for the night when Tina was free to act around, while doing nothing in particular.

And just like that the night came.

With the night outside in full swing, we took Tina with us when we exited the house.

And now we moved to the plains just outside of the town.

The plains at night were quiet, and a gentle breeze was blowing through them at regular intervals.

There were no animals or monsters to be seen nearby, only us.

「Alright, alright! Let’s get down to business!」

Suzu-san, who was walking in the lead, stopped suddenly and looked back at us.

「Right then, I think that I shall conduct one final test for good measure.」

Suzu-san said so while smiling.

「Ugh…… For some reason, I have a really bad feeling about this last test……」

「Hm? What’s wrong, Kanade?」

「Just so you know, every time that Mom looks so serious and fired up about something, it’s usually a sign that she is thinking about something really stupid……」

「Hmm, I see.」

It is something that Kanade probably learned solely because of the fact that she is Suzu-san’s daughter. As expected.

Kanade’s ears were also pressing flat against her head, which was showing that she was genuinely worried and frightened.

「Ugh……」

「Come on now. It will be fine.」

「Nyah…… Rein?」

Gently, I held Kanade’s hand in my own.

As if to convey my own bodily heat onto her.

I then gripped it tightly.

「Nyah…… R-Rein? It hurts a little, you know?」

「Oh, I’m sorry. But I thought it might be a good time to do something like this.」

「…… Yeah, you’re right. I think this actually helped me to calm down a little bit.」

「Whatever this last test is going to be, we are going to overcome it together. We won’t let your Mom take you back to the village, Kanade! You can count on us for that!」

「Rein……」

「Yeah! That’s what this is all about! Just leave it to us! Hahahaha!!!」

「Sora will also do her very best!」

「Hey! What’s with that look!? Do you think that I wouldn’t want to help this late in the game!?」

「I will…… do my very…… best, too……!」

「I am going to give it my very best for Kanade’s sake!」

「…… Everyone……」

Kanade’s tear glands loosen up and she snorted really loudly from being moved so much by our display of loyalty.

But now was not the time to cry.

Kanade gingerly held back her tears and looked forward.

「Umm…… Everyone? I don’t know why, but all of a sudden I get this really weird feeling that I’m actually the bad guy here?」

「I’m sorry for that. But as long as Kanade doesn’t want to go back home with you of her own volition, I can’t let things go on as you want them to, Suzu-san.

「Oh, I see. So, are you doing all of this solely because Kanade-chan says that she doesn’t want to go back home with me? So, if Kanade-chan told you that she wants to go back home with me, would you let her do it without interfering?」

「No, that is not going to happen, either. We want Kanade to be able to stay here with us. And even if Kanade would say that she wanted to leave, we would probably try to convince her to reconsider that idea. I know that this is really selfish, but that’s just how we all feel.」

「Hmm, I see, I see.」

Suzu-san nodded her head coyly, looking like she was in a good mood for some reason.

Her smile remained on her face the whole time.

「Well then, maybe this means that Kanade-chan really grew up way more than I thought she would.」

「Huh? What does that even……」

「Alright, that’s enough chatter for now. Let’s begin the final test, shall we?」

Before I could ask what she meant by that, Suzu-san would break off the conversation abruptly.

For a moment out there I was getting a feeling that we could actually solve this entire problem with a peaceful discussion……

Was it just my imagination?

「Okay, so? What is this last test going to be all about?」

「You’ll just have to fight me.」

「…… Say what now?」

「I said: you’ll just have to fight me.」

Suzu-san grinned and repeated the same thing twice.

If possible, I hoped I had actually heard her wrong and that we wouldn’t really have to do this……

But I guess that things really don’t work that way.

「Fight with……」

「Suzu-san……」

Tanya and Luna were both looking as though they could not believe what we all just heard.

But honestly, it was not really all that surprising of a reaction.

They must have experienced Suzu-san’s absurd abilities firsthand during the second test earlier today, during the game of tag.

And that was just Suzu-san playing around, I’m sure of it.

When it comes to actually fighting, how much power is she going to have……? This was something that I was actually unable to even imagine.

「Come on, everyone! We cannot let her intimidate us all with something like that! Besides, we are not a bunch of weaklings ourselves! And since it’s been a while since we had a good opponent to fight, think of it like a nice little challenge! Or a training session!」

「U-Umu! That’s right! T-This is going to be a piece of cake for such a naturally born genius that I am! Fufun! This is getting more and more interesting by the moment!」

Tanya and Luna both said those words as if they were trying to encourage themselves more than they were trying to encourage everyone else.

Although they couldn’t hide the fact that they were actually scared to fight an opponent like that, even though they were also pretty strong……

I don’t really blame them for having doubts about this. It’s something that was inevitable.

To be honest, even I was scared and unsure of what the outcome of this fight was going to be.

Fighting against someone as formidable as Suzu-san……

Honestly, what are even the chances of us winning in a fight like that?

As far as her abilities are concerned, at least those that she displayed to us during that earlier test, if we were to go against her head on, we would have no chance at all at coming remotely close to the victory.

In a normal fight, we would have to most probably attack her blind spots or maybe utilize some pretty underhanded tactics such as ambushes, but even that wouldn’t be nearly enough to give us the advantage……

「You said that you want us to fight you. So in that case, what are the conditions that must be met for us to win?」
