Last Embryo Volume 4 Chapter 7 Part 3

And then there were also things like profit margins and air superiority of each and every country to consider, and all of those problems had to be taken care of before they could even start building the damn tower.

Of course, the option of openly announcing that the world as humanity knew it is going to end in fifteen years was absolutely out of the question, since the only thing that would accomplish would be to throw the entire world into a state of panic and cause not only geopolitical and economical issues, but it would definitely lead to an increased and accelerated amounts of both riots and terrorism. And even if all of those problems were to somehow be miraculously resolved without spawning a whole new set of issues along the way, then the amount of actual time left for the building and the competition of the entire Environmental Control Tower would only be around a year or two at best.

「Have you completely lost you mind you fucking retard? ! ! ! !. . . . . . How in the fuck can you expect just the two of us to accomplish such a bullshit task? ? ? ! ! ! I do not care what you might think of us, but you are simply asking for the impossible! ! ! ! !」

「「Just the two of us」? Oh no, please, do not misunderstand. While I did say that 「you two brothers have been chose as the ones who would solve this case」to quote from my own words, then I never said that you are to undertake this monumental task alone, or with just the two of you. If I remember correctly, some national institutions and religious groups are already in motion, trying to find their own solutions to fix this problem once and for all, like the one who have created 『The Bull of Heaven』 and prepared its host. As far as I am concerned, everything should be greenlit for you as long as it guarantees that the work on the Environmental Control Tower will be completed on schedule or even faster. Do whatever you think is necessary, spill as much blood as you have to, force however many people you want to work for you. . . as long as you will follow that line of reasoning, then I can personally guarantee you that you can rest assured that the research and the necessary work will be over before you know it. And as for anyone who might stand in the way of you finishing your task, like the natives of this continent. . . . they should all simply be killed.」

Krishna said while wearing a gentle smile and speaking with a tone of voice that sounded as if he was comforting distressed children. So this man was so far gone that he would consider 『The Bull of Heaven』, a walking calamity that destroyed one million two hundred thousand households simply by walking through them, as a perfectly reasonable means to an end? Now that he has seen firsthand exactly what kind of ideology and the way of thinking Krishna represented, a single thought has begun to take root in Izayoi’s head.

This man. . . he is no good. He needs to be eliminated right now.

It might not have been a first time when something like that has happened, but now more than ever, Izayoi realized that there really are people in this world who simply cannot be reasoned with no matter how many times you would have tried to talk things up with them and explain the differences between you. While it is true that they do not have nearly enough information to be absolutely sure if then can write Krishna off or not, the things he has said up until this point made it pretty clear that he considers his idea a the only viable solution to the problem of mankind’s extinction and that he will not be backing down from his decision of going through with it no matter how hard they would try to reason with him. He simply failed to realize that what they needed the most at the current moment is an alternative. An alternative to speeding up the progress of research of Star Particle Bodies by sacrificing the lives of two innocent Albino girls in order to do so. However, the destruction of the entire human race was something far beyond Izayoi’s comprehensive abilities, and even though he has made many simulation pertaining to it throughout the last three years, he never once arrived at a definitive answer to the most important of questions: what can I do to stop this? How do you go about solving such a frighteningly large problem while only having one or two people who could aid you in that endeavor?

Seeing the two boys with their faces warped in agony as they desperately tried to come up with literally anything that could be done about it right there on the spot, Krishna looked away from them while having a troubled look on his face as well.

「Judging by your reactions I can definitely see that what I said might have been rather. . . cruelly worded. However, I need you to understand one thing. What we are talking about now, this matter of the gravest importance in the history of mankind. . . is a matter that transcends the boundaries between what can be considered good and what can be considered evil. But now I see that your consciences are not yet ready to shoulder the burden of the Original Sin on your backs, and I can emphasize with that, since I understand very well the suffering of those who have been forced to make extreme decisions and choices against their will. Which is exactly why. . . I am willing to take the task of dealing with those two girls over there myself.」

And so, Krishna began to walk towards the unconscious Albino girls. In an attempt to stop him, Izayoi assumed his battle stance once more while Homura’s body acted on his own before he could even realize it and shielded the girls, standing behind Izayoi with his arms widely stretched to the sides and his feet rooted firmly in place.

The 「Original Sin」 that Krishna mentioned and Homura sometimes talked about is a sin that is always being discussed whenever the topic of humanity’s right to life is being discussed, mainly: 「If it were to bring salvation to the human race as a whole, would it be morally acceptable to sacrifice a life of an individual for the greater good of said whole?」Apparently Krishna belonged to the faction that claimed that as long as it would surely mean that the rest of humanity would be saved, sacrificing the life of a single human being would be the best thing to do, and he was even ready to take the entire burden of the responsibility of slaying the Albino girls for the greater good of mankind upon his shoulders, because in his eyes, he would be doing Homura and Izayoi a favor by ensuring that the two of them will not have to suffer claiming the lives of those girls themselves only to live the rest of their lives plagued by guild that might just prove to be too much for them to bear.

Right now, both of the Albino girls: the one that was brought here earlier at Izayoi’s request and the one who had Parashurama dwelling inside of her body were still laying on the makeshift beds they were placed on when Homura performed his emergency treatment on them, and they were still being plagued with very high fever. In the state that both of them currently are, ending their lives would be as easy as breaking the neck of a newborn child.

With Krishna getting closer to them with every step, Izayoi and Homura were both trying to think of anything that would allow them to salvage this hopeless situation and get out of here while bringing both themselves and the girls to safety, but even when they were forcing their brains to process information and various possible scenarios at the speed that would rival those of the Outer World’s most advanced supercomputers, none of the plans they were able to devise would let them achieve a desired result without suffering some kind of loss or making some kind of sacrifice.

(How can I possibly turn this mess around?!)

(What should I do?!! What should I do?!!)

Their only hope right now was to think of something that would allow them to deal with the catastrophic eruption in the future without the need to sacrifice the girls’ lives right now, and the summoning of the Lost Continent of Atlantis to Little Garden must have had something to do with it.
