Nanana’s Buried Treasure Volume 6 Chapter 1.1

Episode 1: Before the 《game》 ~Juugo Yama’s Plan

——8 hours before the 《game》 starts.

「It’s finally the night」, President says with emotion in his voice. It’s as if he’s been waiting impatiently for this night.

The current location is the adventure club room in the Third high school.

It wasn’t long ago that I was feeling relieved that all the depressing final exams had ended and I was able to achieve a good enough result that would allow me to enjoy my summer vacation with dignity. This good mood made me want to go out on the town and shout ‘Let’s party!’ and have a good time with everyone. Unfortunately there is an event that is even more important than the school’s final exam, so I can’t let my guard down.

That’s why the three of us were gathered in the clubroom after school.

Isshin Yuiga (president of the adventure club) was discharged from the hospital the other day.

The self-proclaimed great detective Tensai Ikkyuu has her usual fearless smile.

And then there is me, Juugo Yama. As energetic as ever.

In addition to these faces, it normally wouldn’t be unusual to see a violent vice president who loves Isshin, a ninja sempai who breathes fire, and a cross-dressing person. Today though it’s just those first three.

We are the only three here tonight because we are the only ones who have the qualifications to participate in the 《game》 that will be held tonight.

-Participation Conditions: Participants must bring one Nanana collection that they own. (However, bringing more than one is strictly prohibited. If discovered, you will be immediately disqualified.)

-《Game》’s content: We have prepared several stages to determine the final winner. Participants must survive each stage and fight until the last person standing. The method of winning in each stage will be explained at each stage.

-The Rules:
1. All contact with people outside the 《game》 is prohibited. (Cel Phones and other communication devices will be left with us.)
2. Violence towards other participants and the like are strictly prohibited. However this does not apply to acts that are within the rules of each stage.
3. Nanana collection are permitted to be used at any time and under any circumstances.
4. In order to ensure that the 《game》 runs smoothly, the organizers may change the rules at any time.
5. Violation of the rules will result in immediate disqualification.

Finally, we do not guarantee the personal safety of the participants in the 《game》. As a result, only those who are prepared to accept whatever the outcome may be should participate.

The Leprechaun homepage was suddenly updated about a month ago. When I entered the password I had obtained at the Tanabata Festival the other day, this information popped up.

As for the starting date and time, it will be the moment the date changes tonight at midnight.

There was actually a few weeks left between when I learned the details of the game and when it would be held. I was a bit confused as to why it wasn’t sooner, but when I thought about it final exams were going on too. It may have been a blessing to hold the event now that all of that was over.

Well, setting aside my circumstances as a student…

We take another look at the details written there.

「This rule seems to have a lot of implications, but what I’m curious about is the Nanana collection」, I say while folding my arms and leaning back in my chair.

Tensai puts her hand over her mouth with a ‘Hmph.’

Possession of a Nanana collection is a qualification for participation in the game. Currently the three of us are the only members of our club who have achieved this goal.

It is currently at the end of the table right in front of Tensai. President Yuiga turns his attention to the palm-sized blue jewel placed in front of me.

It was the 《glittering lie detector》, or 《Yagutos’s one eye》, which I had secretly hid under my bed in my room every since I stole it from a certain older sister/childhood friend. Its ability is that it can ‘see when someone lies when looking through it’. However if you use it with evil intentions, you will go blind. So it’s a difficult item to use.

「Well I just happened to pick it up at a nearby park, and it just so happened to be a Nanana collection. 」

「Is that right? You are so lucky」, said President Yuiga with a refreshing smile. Yeah, he definitely doesn’t believe me.

The glasses in front of him are a pair of stylish frames, which at first just look like fashionable glasses. They are 《imitation glasses》, also known as 《Gilbert Balam’s copying glasses》. It has the ability to ‘copy the entire ability of the opponent you see through the lens of your glasses for a certain period of time’. Hello there Mr. Handsome President. Even your Nanana collection is fashionable! … Well putting aside my anger for a moment and comparing each person’s collection, it seems that President Yui’s 《imitation glasses》 are the most useful among them. Next would be my 《glittering lie detector》, but it only tells me when an opponent is lying, and I’m afraid of the risks. Tensai’s collection is not even close. It’s just being used for the qualification to participate in the 《game》.

「From what it says, it seems like violence is prohibited. So does that mean they will be games that tests our wits? 」

「Not necessarily. After rule 2 it says ‘However, this does not apply to acts that are within the rules of each stage’. It’s possible a stage’s rules would be physical. 」

Tensai is right. Among the wide variety of 《Ruin》 I’ve cleared so far, there were many where failure meant death.

「You don’t know the specifics of the game, do you President Yuiga? 」

「They would joke about it to me. All the sempai who participated would just joke around about it and so nobody told me the truth. 」

「Hmph. In other words, we you won’t know anything until you participate Yuiga-dono. 」

「That’s correct. 」

Well, simply put it’s a game of wits between participants where Nanana collection come into play. Unlike the 《ruin》 I’ve been in so far, it doesn’t seem that losing here would mean losing my life. So I don’t think I need to be too worried about the consequences of participating.

After confirming everything, I ask President Yuiga again.
