Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 106
Entering the old man’s world, Kazuki was immediately taken aback. Strange and elusive objects flew about here and there covering the sky. These strange objects looked like long sheets made of see-through silk. Each one was slightly transparent and each one had a different color. Some were red, some pink, while others were blue or green. Every color was represented in this place.
This alone wouldn’t be weird or strange, there are many things that could do the same in the world but what was off was the fact that there were no magic inscriptions keeping these objects afloat. There was no pressure, no air pushing them up or around, nothing. These things simply contained some of the elements within them.
“What are those things, how can they fly?”
The old man looked up at the sky and pointed at one of them.
“That is merely an object I put together. Simple enough in its construction but you aren’t curious about that. Before I tell you about that you wanted other answers from me. Shall we talk here or will you join me for a cup of tea?”
The old man was very timid but there was an obvious bit of pride when he mentioned the so-called object he put together. Kazuki shrugged and decided to go along with it. If he kept stopping to ask a question every time he saw something he didn’t understand, he would be here forever. This line of thinking was dead on as the further he explored this world, the more strange and bizarre shit he would see.
Animals he’d never witnessed in his life roamed about in large herds across a wide-open plain. Plants that were as big as buildings and moved about as if crossing a river. Rain flowed upward and the sky continually transformed. One minute it was bright and calm, the next it was set ablaze by some unknown force. This force was the same thing he felt from the flying silky objects earlier.
Kazuki had seen many things in this life but this world had his eyes leaping from one strange and mysterious scene to the next.
Finally, the two arrived at a small open kitchen. The kitchen had no roof and only two walls and this room or rather half room said in the open near a field of brush and trees. The kitchen itself looked normal besides the fact that it was covered in junk and dirty dishes.
“Ah forgive me, I’ve yet to have a guest here. Let me clean and the tea will be ready in a flash.”
Kazuki was still dumbfounded by the things he saw and was in no hurry.
“No rush old man. By the way, all of these things, this world, it was your doing?”
The old man nodded before snapping his fingers. As soon as he did this, all of the junk covering a hidden table disappeared and the dishes became clean in an instant. A kettle poured cold water into two cups and a drawer opened nearby as several crushed leaves flew into the cups. The cups then heated up and it was done.
The old man sat down at the table and looked at the empty seat on the other side.
Sitting down, the cup of tea floated into Kazuki’s hand. Kazuki gave it a curious look and inspected it with his aura. There was nothing suspicious about it but strangely enough the cup had some heat to it. Kazuki did not see the old man use any magic. The magic just seemed to happen.
Taking a sip, Kazuki was pleasantly surprised. The tea had just been made but it was perfectly brewed. Again Kazuki didn’t see any magic being used yet the element of time had to have been used to brew this cup of tea in a flash. Nor were there any tea leaves in his cup, they had vanished before he even noticed.
The old man nervously took small sips of his tea before he suddenly remembered.
“Ah, that’s right, I still haven’t even introduced myself. Please forgive me, I didn’t do it on purpose.”
Kazuki waved the mans apologise away and the man sighed in relief before finally introducing himself.
“I am called Nevius Ash but my friends call me Nevvy. Sorry that’s a lie I don’t have any friends but you can call me Nevvy if you like.”
The old man smiled before chuckling nervously.
Kazuki didn’t know much about the man but he could tell the man was no fighter.
“Nevius huh. We’ve only met once, and we are not enemies so why are you so scared of my very presence?”
Nevius swallowed hard. He didn’t know if this was a test or not and didn’t want to upset Kazuki.
“I…I just don’t want to get on your bad side.”
“My bad side?”
Nevius nodded.
Kazuki could sense no ill intent from this old man and sighed.
*Haa*
“Look old m…Nevius, there’s no reason to be afraid of me unless you’re my enemy. Now, you’re not my enemy…are you?”
Nevius shook his head back and forth, denying it immediately.
“No no no never. I’m not so foolish nor am I ready to die. There’s no way I would be your enemy. Never ever ever.”
“Ok, you said it yourself. We aren’t enemies so relax a little. Just talk casually. I promise I won’t bite.”
*Hehe*
Again Nevius laughed nervously but he did start to calm down. He began siping his tea again and an awkward atmosphere spread between the two.
“Look I just said not to be so timid right, so why are you still acting like this. How can we move on if you’re stuck on this.”
Nevius put down his cup and took in a deep breath.
“I’m sorry It’s a hard habit to get rid of. My wife used to say…Nevermind. The reason though, is you’re a terrifying person. This is only the second time we’ve met yes but your first impression was not something this old man’s heart can take on a daily basis.”
“Hmm, how so?”
The old man’s eyes widened a bit.
“Well…Before we even met I could feel your presence on the surface of the planet. You Fera, Torzz, Zetrazz, and Zephris were already going all out. The world trembled under your alls might and I really thought the world would break apart. I wanted to leave but I didn’t want to draw any unwanted attention to myself. You were already very strong at that moment but then you and your sister took your fight to space. A short time afterward, you returned and you were leaps stronger. After that, you and your friends stopped Fera and then you proceeded to crush her head in your hand. So much happened in such a short period of time and then you were transported to a Higher Realm. Things were starting to calm down and I contemplated staying but then you came down from there and immediately rounded the remaining strong beings up like we were cattle. I thought you were going to kill us. You bark orders at us and then before you leave that Titan Aruzai acts up and you kill him on the spot. After that, I knew you were not one to be messed with. After that, I used my camouflage and got far away before I said or did something stupid to set you off.”
Kazuki now understood. Before he even knew of Navius, Navius was already well aware of him and what he was doing. For someone who’s not a fighter to witness the world on the brink of being destroyed along with Kauzki’s own threats and killing not only his sister but another titan so soon after he returned from a Higher Realm, Kazuki really must have looked intimidating.
“Guess I made one hell of a first impression huh?”
Nevius nodded.
“Your power growing so astonishingly quickly was one of the most worrying things for me. That type of power without keeping it in check has disaster written all over it. Thankfully you have a bunch of friends and loved ones that care about you, otherwise, I don’t think this Realm would have lasted.”
Kazuki felt these words were a bit odd but he understood.
(If there was no one who cared, would I not have turned out similar to Fera. Her obsession led her to almost destroying the Realm itself. If I was like her, who knows how terrible my life wou…)
Like a bolt of lightning Danny’s words struck him and he became lost in thought for a moment.
“Sir…Kazuki sir…”
Nevius called out to him, snapping him back.
“Did I upset you just now. If so, I’m sor
“Stop. You did nothing wrong, my thoughts have just been scattered as of late.”
Nevius nodded along.
“It makes sense with your soul like that.”
Kazuki looked at Nevius with surprise.
“My soul, you know something about my soul!? What do you mean!?”
Kazuki’s sudden outburst put Nevius on edge and his body curled up a bit like a shrimp. Kazuki quickly cooled himself and asked calmly.
“Sorry. You mentioned my soul. Could you tell me what you’re talking about? I just want to know?”
Nevius stared at Kazuki. He could see Kazuki really didn’t know and just told him what he sensed.
“Sir Kazuki, your soul…It’s damaged.”
