Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 155
“What did you just say?”
Ryuta thought he misheard. Otherwise what Kazuki just said could only have been a cruel joke or so he thought before Asuna nodded.
“I know it’s shocking but Kazuki is telling the truth. He can bring your mother back.”
Ryuta looked at Asuna in disbelief before his focus moved to Sam but even Sam echoed Asuna’s unbelievable statement.
“Kazuki isn’t lying. It is one of his abilities.”
Sam didn’t say much as per usual but what he did say was still something one couldn’t just accept. This was his mother, to defy death and bring someone back to life, it was impossible.
These were Ryuta’s thoughts for a moment before he recalled the voice in his head not too long ago. After hearing Kazuki speak just now, he recognized it. It was Kazuki who cured the sick, it was Kazuki who healed the world and put a mountain in the sky that could feed anyone in need. What was said was unbelievable but at the same time, Ryuta could look into the distance and see the farming mountain hovering silently on the horizon.
“You…Can you really bring her back?”
Kazuki nodded.
“For Asuna and for Sam, I will return to you everything you lost and so much more. Just say the word and it will be done.”
Ryuta looked at Sam and Asuna. The two reassured him. Even though the three had been separated for a few years, it was as if they had never left. There were many changes on both the outside and inside but they still treated Ryuta as their friend. Ryuta couldn’t help but swallow hard before nodding. His voice was low but he still spoke.
“Please.”
Kazuki shut his eyes for a moment before his senses dove into Ryuta’s soul world. His soul reading ability was in full effect as he searched Ryuta’s soul. At the same time, Arc was slightly annoyed. It did not agree with this but If it was just this much, it didn’t really have a problem finding Ryuta’s mother’s soul. Arc would definitely chew Kazuki out for this later though.
Arc was in the shape of a ring on Kazuki’s thumb. with a bit of power, Arc began to glow before shooting two beams of light directly into Kazuki’s mind. Connecting between Kazuki and Ryuta, Arc used Ryuta’s soul to get a match on his mother’s soul before finding the location of said soul. Finding a soul of someone in the same Realm in the same world and from only a year or so ago was much easier than finding a particular soul that was many Realms away.
Compared to finding Nevius’s wife and child, the task today consumed very little energy and was easier than Arc changing its own form and shape. A fraction of a second passed and it was done. The soul was located and Arc brought it forth. Turns out her soul was quite close by. Ryuta’s mother had died heartbroken and filled with many regrets and so she stuck close to her son in hopes of him living a better life for the both of them.
Bringing her soul forward, Kazuki’s eyes began to glow. After searching Ryuta’s soul, he found the location of some DNA. He took a tiny bit of bone from her body where she was buried. This fragment of bone had more than enough information for him to extract and create a brand new body.
Alchemy and Magic made everything easy. In a matter of seconds, Kazuki had created a brand new body for Ryuta’s mother and had even made it slightly younger before transplanting her soul into the body.
Ryuta sat there with a look of shock as this all happened in front of him. One moment he was crying and felt as if the world was crushing him and the very next his mother had been reborn and he felt as if he was weightless.
A strong heartbeat pounded in her chest and her eyes slowly fluttered open. She was by his side this whole time watching over him so she knew what had just happened and had watched how he suffered all this time. The moment she opened her eyes, she pulled him into her chest and embraced him. The two began to cry. They had been reunited under such strange circumstances but that did nothing to affect the love between a mother and son.
Ryuta tried to thank Kazuki but Kazuki wouldn’t have it.
“Don’t thank me. Even if I wanted to be thanked, it’s still way too early for that.”
Ryuta and his mother, Asuna, and Sam, the four of them were confused and didn’t know what he meant.
Kazuki’s eyes continued to glow and he entered the souls of a few people. In several places around the world, archives and any information that had to do with Ryuta and the disappearance of Asuna and Sam, all of the news articles, media posting anything and everything was removed from every corner of the world. Any person that was aware of it, Kazuki entered their souls and completely removed the memory. Tampering with another person’s soul or memory was very dangerous and could easily lead to damage and possibly even death but Kazuki had the soul reading ability. He could easily cut memories out of another’s soul with surgical-like precision without leaving any traces.
Because of this skill, the only people left who knew of the incident that ruined Ryuta’s life were the people that stood here in the field with him. From now on, anyone that saw Ryuta would not recognize him from the past. This also included other relatives of his. After looking into Ryuta’s soul, Kazuki saw exactly how they all treated him and his mother. It was absolutely disgusting and Ryuta and his mother no longer wanted anything to do with such people so Kazuki made it so they were now complete strangers.
Kazuki tossed Ryuta a ring. Just like the storage ring he gave James, this one was also made from a material that looked just like wood. A storage ring with a cosmic crystal inside and a small amount of storage space. With a drop of blood, only Ryuta would be able to access its contents, well, Ryuta and Kazuki of course.
Kazuki told him what to do and Ryuta followed along. A moment later he could feel the inside of the ring and a second later he tried to pull something from inside and a flood of money came falling out until it piled up making a small hill.
Kazuki gave Ryuta and his mother enough money to live a life of luxury for a dozen lifetimes and then some. Explaining what he just did when it came to who Ryuta was in the outside world, Ryuta’s mother began to cry more and more with joy while Ryuta began to laugh as if he were crazy. He began to throw the money up into the air, again and again, making it rain down atop them all.
After a minute or two, everyone calmed down but Ryuta and his mother could not hide their giddy expressions. They now had a new chance at life. They could go out into the world without being judged for their pasts. No one would look at their faces and associate them with scum and be disgusted by them.
“With this, you two can now start over. The years have passed and have been unkind but you no longer need to worry about being social pariahs. You can go anywhere and live how you wish. Make friends, talk to others and just live life.”
Kazuki could see that there was still much more to be said between friends so he took a stroll while the four talked. After a bit, Ryuta’s mother also took a walk. She caught up with Kazuki and the two quietly walked along the long winding road.
As they walked down the road, they passed a few people here and there and there were still some stares but this time it was not because of who she was related to but rather her appearance.
The woman was more youthful after Kazuki was done restoring her and appeared to be a young mother in her late 20s. No one would believe she was Ryuta’s mother. So some people here and there gawked at her as they went.
“My son…He was always stupid growing up and I really worried about him as the days went but when he was still small, he met Asuna and Sam. He has always been a good boy but he wasn’t really good at anything but the day he became friends with those two, I knew he had done something right and I just knew they would be connected always. I did not know the connection would leave to this fantasy-like setting but I’m so glad it did. When things became bad, I wasn’t worried about myself. I knew my son was innocent but the world turned on him, even my parents began to hate him. I wanted to stay strong for him, I really tried but my body couldn’t take it and I died. I watched my happy son become a shell of himself and the world hated him but today…today things have changed. When I opened my eyes and saw his, I could see a small glimmer of that once innocent son of mine. He isn’t the same anymore but now it looks like he can get a tiny bit of living back. You did this. You gave my boy his hope back.”
Ryuta’s mother couldn’t say anything more as she hugged Kazuki with all of her strength.
She cried harder and harder and although Kazuki was no more than a stranger to her, her feelings poured out and she felt as if she was hugging another son. Words no longer formed as she balled her eyes out but in her soul, she was thanking Kazuki from the very depths of her being.
Kazuki as well said nothing and just hugged her back as she cried.
