Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 117
He had now become accustomed to this dark energy. Inside the black pyramid tunnel, what was once nothing but darkness, now became clearer. His eyes adapted and he could see further. He no longer needed a light source and could actually make out the path in front of him.
Not just his eyes. Now that he comprehended this strange mockery of Origin energy, this off-brand so to speak. All of his senses changed and adapted. He could now hear and could feel his body inside this place. Before everything had basically gone numb to the touch. Now, it was as if he were in a normal cave or rather closer to normal than abnormal.
After all, he had not yet mastered this generic Origin energy. He was no master of the arts but he had enough theoretical knowledge that it could not fully hinder him any longer.
*BANG!*
The dark energy, the sound it emitted once more struck his body and soul. This time though he was not destroyed on the spot. The sound before would have shattered him to pieces leaving not even a tither of flesh behind. Now, only a single arm was blown off and slightly less then half of his Soul tree splintered.
Kazuki smiled in the darkness.
His spinning void continued to devour a portion of the generic artificial Origin energy. Some of the energy went to his soul blackening it further and purifying it within this darkness while the other part of this pure energy was delivered back into his body, strengthening the tendons, muscles, bones, etc.
With each step he took in the tunnel, each strike he endured like a blade being forged and tempered, his powers, soul, and body evolved and grew. He became tougher, stronger, more so than ever before.
*BOOOOOOM!*
Another few steps ahead and the dark energy struck him over and over.
Instead of a limb flying, this time only his skin was turned into ash. His muscles laid bare and so too did his blood, nerves, and cartilage become revealed to the open air. A fraction of a second later, fresh skin grew anew, stronger than that of a Demigod’s Divine Soul weapon.
*CRACK BOOOOOOM!*
The agony of this artificial Origin energy entering him was brutality incarnate. It pierced every surface and every corner, every cell, and every fiber. Every part that made up Kazuki, whether it be mind, soul, core, or body, all of him suffered and endured.
His body regenerated and his soul recovered in between every step he took.
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*
The attacks increased in force and power but so too did Kauzki’s defenses in every interaction.
This meant that even though he became more powerful after each attack, the pain did not lessen in the least.
(Even if the pain does not ease, it does not matter. The suppressive nature of this world is lowering because my strength and knowledge of this strange energy are increasing with each step.)
While Kazuki was trapped inside his Soul world, all the knowledge he had gathered and obtained about this artificial Origin energy, it was mostly theoretical. He could use very little of his powers and soul to actually test the dark energy because he had a limited supply inside.
Now that he was outside and was taking every single attack head-on, it led him to new insights with each strike. All the theories he had about this dangerous energy, little by little were revealed to him.
The more he stepped forward, the more he took upon himself, resisted, absorbed, grew, and recovered. All of it he was breaking down and learning. His knowledge of this fake Origin energy was growing by leaps and bounds.
Even if the suppression effect of this world no longer lowered from here, Kazuki was much more confident.
With a thought, Kauzki moved his power within and it was no longer sluggish. In fact, it was moving faster than ever before.
He opened his storage ring and then closed it as a test.
Before he was so desperate to open his storage ring and pull out all of his Divine crystals. Now, he no longer needed the energy within them. He was getting all the energy he needed and then some from the knock-off Origin energy in his surroundings.
This dark power that continuously struck him, it was giving him all the fuel he needed to both grow and resist further attacks.
Kazuki couldn’t help but laugh inside.
He raced ahead faster and faster. The suppressive nature easing off of him caused the gravity around him to lessen as well.
It was as if every cell was overflowing with radiant energy.
In this dark tunnel, he could now see the end of the path.
With his speed, he reached a large overarching gateway. There was clearly a wall of the same dark energy that had been attacking him covering the entrance. Kazuki grit his teeth as he rammed into it with his shoulder.
Although he could resist and absorb this dark energy to a certain degree, manipulating it was still a challenge. If he could just move it under his will, e would not be suppressed by it in the first place.
As he lunged into this wall of dark energy, it was like a grinder tearing away at his everything. His devouring spinning void did what it always does. It sucked all of this Artificial Origin energy inside before processing it and sending it back into his soul tree and body like a miracle elixir.
Kazuki broke through this black wall and stumbled into an even larger chamber where he fell flat on his face.
Once he fell onto the ground, his head immediately popped up as he scanned his surroundings.
The entire chamber was shaped like a dome. It was the size of a small mountain inside. The entire space was empty except the very center of this place. The floating dead center of this space was a purplish black hollowed-out diamond. It was the size of a grown man’s fist, maybe even a little bigger than that.
It floated silently, suspended in a beam of golden light.
Kazuki could see inscriptions across its surface that resembled Arc’s.
(That has to be Arc’s missing piece. What else could it be?)
Just as he thought this, the sound of groaning came from behind him.
Behind him, Fleck, Nala, and Specxzu had been dragged the entire way. They were now awakening. Kazuki quickly checked on the three of them and found that their eyes had returned to their normal color and their consciousness returned one by one.
Kazuki was slightly envious. They had essentially gone to sleep and awoke at the end of the path. They had literally been carried through the danger. Because he was still conscious, the power of this place continuously attacked him and nearly destroyed him several times. Meanwhile, his people had been in the land of dreams.
He didn’t understand why this place did not attack once it put you to sleep but had no answer.
At the same time, because he wasn’t asleep, he managed to grow his strength to unprecedented levels. He wondered just how strong he had become.
Nala was the first to come to. As soon as her mind returned, she looked all around in a daze before seeing Kazuki and the stone jewel floating in the middle of the room. She felt a panic run through her as she saw her wrist tied and tethered to her Master.
She quickly began to bow and apologize as she realized Kazuki must have carried her when she passed out.
“Master forgive this useless one. I don’t know how I fell asleep. Please punish me for this unloyal act!”
Kazuki couldn’t help but start laughing.
He had been trapped within his Soul world for just over 2 million years. Hearing another person’s voice after all of the years of forced solitude, it brought a missing warmth to his heart.
*Heheha*
He quickly made her stand up.
“Stop bowing, you know I hate that shit. Besides, you did nothing wrong nor anything one could consider as disloyal. No, the power of this place is truly strange. It would make less sense if you were actually able to resist this place’s power. So get up. Things aren’t finished just yet.”
Nala shook the cobwebs from her mind and quickly got up.She saw the streak of white hair on Kazuki’s head but didn’t dare question it after she had faield her master. After her, Specxzu followed and then Fleck arose as well. Fleck did basically the same as Nala before but Kazuki quickly put an end to the groveling.
Fleck was relieved while Specxzu said nothing at first. His many eyes fell upon the strange purplish black jewel that floated high above them all. Many thoughts ran through is head but in the end, he tore his gaze away from the hollowed-out jewel. He was still stuck at the Demigod level currently. more than that, he had no clue how or when he lost consciousness. Waking up and seeing his wrist tied by this ripped-up shirt, it was obvious Kazuki had once again saved his life.
He hadn’t the strength to take such a treasure no matter how much he coveted it.
He was about to thank Kazuki when a cold voice rang out behind him.
“So that’s the treasure.”
