Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 94

Kazuki was wrapped up within a cocoon of sticky webs. The webs clung to his flesh and began to melt his body at a rapid rate, shocking Fleck and Nala.

“MASTER!”

Nala ran toward Kazuki and was prepared to rip the webs off of Kauzki at the risk of her own life but Kazuki quickly shouted.

“GET BACK!”

Nala stopped in her tracks. She could not disobey Kazuki’s command. Still, she did not wish to see him die.

“Fleck do something before Master dies!”

Fleck aimed his bow at the webs but again Kauzki shouted.

“MUST I REPEAT MY WORDS? DO NOT INTERFERE!”

Fleck felt a chill run down his spine and both he and Nala did as ordered and retreated out of the way.

At the same time, Kazuki was observing the webs. The alchemist in him was curious and he began breaking the construction of these webs in his mind.

Even as they ate away at his flesh, he was more interested in their biology than the pain that came with them.

(This has similarities to several different known species but none are an exact match. It looks as if these webs come out as a thin fluid and only gain durability and flexibility when they come into contact with air.)

Kazuki also observed the webs lying around on the ground or in a tree. The ones in the tree were melting the tree but the webs on the ground remained inactive.

(It must melt only when touching an organic material.)

The webs eventually melted Kauzki’s flesh all the way down to the bone before stopping.

(The webs can dissolve my skin but my bones are too tough it seems. Still, it’s surprising that there is something that can corrode my flesh to such a degree.)

Kauzki’s knowledge when it came to creatures and alchemy was oceans deep. A good majority of it he had acquired from Zephris the former miasma. The rest he had learned and put together on his own. It was knowledge he had gained by creating his own small worlds and filling them with different creatures and plants. Many he made himself.

Now that same knowledge allowed him to dissect these special webs and determine how they are made in return how to counter them.

Kazuki grabbed the webs and gave it a tug.

(Very tough. I can still tear them with pure strength alone but I need to change the game. I need to show this snake bastard that these webs are useless on me and in turn, get him to not use them anymore. At the very least make it not worth it.)

Kazuki looked around at the current state of battle. If the snake kept using his webs he could potentially pin everyone down one at a time and kill them.

(This thing cares about its image greatly. I’ll use that.)

Kazuki had Arc and codex open his ring and pull out several ingredients from a few of his small worlds. With a thought, Kazuki combined said ingredients before he stretched out his hand. A simple sphere of water held a strange alchemic mixture.

The ball of water shot forward and hit the webs around him.

*Tsss*

This time it was the webs that were melted instead of Kazuki. They did not simply disappear though. The mixture Kauzki shot forth broke down the webs on a microscopic level and turned them into a disgusting-smelling orange smoke.

The smell was reminiscent of rotting wet garbage on a hot summer’s day. At first the smell and smoke went unnoticed. After all, the snake monster had just clashed with Dredinkar and Specxzu.

Kazuki quickly remedied that.

With another shot, he spread the very same mixture all over the battlefield. The webs, coating basically every inch of this place. All at once they melted away and were turned into this very same stinky orange smoke.

The smell then instantly attracted everyone’s attention and they all couldn’t help but retreat a few feet in disgust.

It literally stopped everyone in their tracks for a moment. Even the snake monster felt a tinge of pain in its nostrils and retreated a few feet. It covered its nose with a few of its spider arms and shouted.

“WHAT IN THE SEVEN REALMS OF HELL IS THAT NASTY STENCH!”

The smoke flew up into the air and everyone’s eyes fell on Kazuki.

To their surprise, his flesh was regenerating much faster than any of theirs. So fast in fact that it seemed impossible. Little did they know, Kazuki was actually purposely holding his healing factor back, lest they become too weary of him.

Besides the insane speed of his healing, they all wondered what that foul smell was.

Kazuki casually walked over and told them.

“What you smell is this monster’s webs being transformed for my purpose.”

The snake was pissed.

“You’ve done nothing. You’ve merely delayed the inevitable. Recognize the beauty of my webs and die in despair!”

The snake monster once more began to flick its spider arms back and forth rapidly while throwing out more webs to cover the area. Dredinkar was still taking care of the unconscious Carta and wasn’t prepared for this and struggled to get out of the way but Kazuki showed them there was nothing to be worried about.

Once again that same mixture came flying forth and he intercepted all of the webs.

*Tssssssssssssssstsssssssssss*

Just as before, the webs were changed on an alchemical level and were transformed into that same nasty-smelling orange smoke.

This time the snake monster felt a weird tingling feeling in its head. It had never felt this before. Never did a bad smell affect its nose and head like this.

It realized now that there was more to this smoke than meets the eye.

“YOU…WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!”

Kazuki gave a shrug before pointing up at the sky. The snake looked up and saw a massive cloud of orange smoke. It was a shocking sight because it should have noticed this. After all, it was a huge orange cloud. How could it not notice something so strange? It shook its head once more, and the tingling in its skull grew.

“You are part snake and part spider and part something else. I can’t pin down everything you are made up of but the main point is snake and spider. Did you know there are several species of plants, animals, fungi, blood, temperature and so on that have a tremendous effect on the senses of snakes and spiders?”

The snake felt even weirder and his legs trembled.

“This, somethings not right.”

Kazuki nodded.

“In a strange ass world like this where our powers are affected so heavily, so much so that our abilities to heal and resist certain things are lessened. Well, what do you think would happen to someone who’s sensitive to things others are not? You already know all of this though, don’t you? It’s one of the main reasons you used those webs. Those webs don’t rely on power but instead are biological and go after our weaknesses in a sense. I just did the same thing you did to us.”

The snake knew something was terribly wrong and felt a sense of dizziness coming on. It decided it needed to kill Kazuki here and now before things got any worse.

It kicked off the ground and rushed forward with no regard.

Dredinkar still did not know what the plan was but the speed at which the snake moved alarmed him and he warned Kazuki just in case.

“MEDATTE DON’T FACE HIM ALONE!”

Kazuki smirked seeing this. His finger was still pointed at the sky above. He lowered it and pointed it at the snake monster. As soon as he did this, the orange cloud up above became orange rain that shot down faster than lightning. It was as if an entire lake had fallen atop the Snake creature and he was soaked in an instant.

This enraged the snake monster even further and it felt its senses bending unnaturally under its will. Its blood lust rose and it appeared before Kazuki with the intent to reduce him to black powder.

Its mouth opened directly in front of Kazuki and it prepared to unleash all of its power in one move. Dredinkar and Specxzu did not know how this provocation would help but they both decided to move forward and unleash everything upon the snake. Even if this was suicide on Kazuki’s part, at the very least the two figured it would buy them enough time to try and kill the monster.

Kazuki saw the inside of this snake monster’s mouth and showed no signs of fear. Instead, he lifted a hand and instantly formed a mirror-like piece of ice. At the same time, he bent the light around both the mirror and the snake monster’s head.

It seemed like he was too late. The white beam of light had gathered within the snake’s mouth and he was just about to unleash all of his might.
