Every ape stood there dumbfounded as they watched their king kill another ape and kick his body aside as though he were worthless scum. Even Kazuki didn’t know what to make of this situation. First off he hadn’t been killed but instead captured in a block of the weird stone. The stone for Kazuki was unmovable. Only his head was left uncovered to witness, Groud’s strange behavior.

(To kill one of his own so easily yet he captured me, what does this mean?)

Kazuki’s questions were soon answered.

Groud looked over his fellow ape before pointing in the direction of the disp[osed body and roared.

(“COWARDDDD!!”)

His roar echoed out and shook every ape to the core. When the noise settled, Groud’s tone became ice cold.

(“Not only did he attack an enemy from behind who wasn’t his opponent but Soldo interfered in a duel. My laws are firm and no one breaks my laws or I break them. Not only did he break my law but he thought me weak. Interfering in my duel of all things, Soldo had no trust in me his great King.”)

Everyone now understood why Groud was so angered by Soldo’s actions. By jumping into the fight, especially at the height of it, it showed he had no faith in Groud and thought that Groud would lose. In response to this, all of the apes began to beat their chest and roar, celebrating Groud’s law and justice.

*Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump*
*ROOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!*

The air shook in resonance and everyone could feel their hearts racing.

After a moment, Groud raised a single hand in the air and everyone settled down and gave him their full attention. When they finally became quiet, Groud pointed at Kazuki.

(“This weird naked creature was strong, not as strong as I but still quite so. However, because Soldo interrupted our fight, I gained the upper hand and advantage unfairly. That is why I did not kill this one here. I need no one’s help to defeat this ugly creature and I shall prove it. Three days from now, I will have a rematch with this thing in my grand arena. On that day I will fight this thing once more and prove to you all that your faith is just. I will show you all that no matter what odd creature enters our territory, it is I, no, it is us, the Adrola apes who reign supreme.”)

Once more the so-called Adrola apes beat their chest like drums and roared in excitement hearing their great king.

*Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump*
*ROOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!*

(This Groud wants to fight me again. He could kill me now but he’d rather prove to everyone that he’s better than me in actual combat.)

Kazuki felt this was more than foolish. If an opponent was captured in front of him, if he didn’t need information or something else from them, there would be no point in keeping such a strong foe like that alive. In fact, that would most likely invite trouble down the line. If they were weak, then there might be a case to show mercy but even then Kazuki might break a limb or rip something off or something along those lines to show them not to come back.

He couldn’t help remember a few people who tried to cause him trouble in the past. They were incredibly weak and tried to rob him in a bathroom of all places. Kazuki in retaliation pissed on them and used their own weapon against one of them and pinned them to a wall just like that before walking away. It wasn’t death but it got the message across to not mess with him.

Remembering that situation and comparing it with this one, Kazuki couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle.

Groud heard it and curiously looked at Kazuki.

(“Care to share what you think is so humorous small creature. Maybe you think this is mercy or something else. Let me remove that notion from your mind right here and now. You are nothing more than a means to an end. It has been too low key within my city for far too long. With peace comes complacency and weakness starts to take root. You showing up and showing your strength as you did, shows my apes that they cannot relax their guard because there are always other creatures out there that can come from nowhere.”)

Groud waved a hand and all the apes began to retreat back into the city. With another wave of his hand, the stone path blocking the mountain pass slowly laid down flat on the ground, returning to its place.

Groud started walking toward the city as well and with each step, he took the stone cube that Kazuki was imprisoned in automatically slid across the ground side by side with Groud.

Kazuki sighed.

*Haa*

“Your reasons make no difference to me. The fact that you captured me should already prove that you’re better than me. Is there actually a need for us to fight? I literally just met you, we may have fought but are we truly enemies, I think not. You should let me go before you regret not letting me go.”

Pausing his steps, the cube prison holding Kazuki stopped as well.

(“What is your name weird creature?”)

Kazuki went quiet for a moment but in the end, there was no reason not to give his name.

“I’m called Kazuki.”

Groud noded as he committed the name to memory.

(“Kazuki is it. You are right. In the natural sense, you and I are not enemies. You said you entered my land accidentally I do in fact believe you. It would make no sense for a weird creature who seems to have common sense and can communicate to enter my city so blatantly. I know of no reality where that would make sense were you an actual enemy or spy or something else. Not only did you walk into my Ape city but you did so with such boldness whilst in the nude. Yes, I believe your story but that matters little. Everything you did, all of your actions led you to challenge me. Whether it was accidental or not, a challenge is a challenge and since our match was interrupted by that coward Soldo and we didn’t finish it properly, the match must continue.”)

“That makes no sense. This isn’t my culture nor my laws, why should I adhere to them?”

Groud snorted.

(“Hmpf, if you don’t agree the answer is simple, I am the law and the law is me, simply beat me and you won’t have to follow any rules in Ape city.”)

“There must be another solution. Isn’t there something you want?”

Groud looked Kazuki up and down, though since his body was encased in stone he really only looked him from head to chin.

(“You have come to my lads nude and possess no items of value. Even that gold item around your neck appears to be nothing but a cheap trinket. There is something you do have though and that’s your fighting ability. I don’t just want to fight you because you issued a challenge. After fighting with you, I understood right away that you were not simple. In this city, there are none who can match me but you went toe to toe. The thrill of a real battle after how many centuries, the euphoria is on another level.”)

“So that’s the other reason you wish to fight me so that you can get off? Sorry to break it to you but I’m not as strong as you think. You’re wasting your time on me.”

Groud grinned hearing Kazuki downplay his strength and the weird comment of getting off. He had never heard it put that way and found it rather amusing.

(“I see through your words weird creature. You act koi but I saw your power, your technique. Your reaction time is impeccable and your movement has no waste in it. Even after I slowed you down with gravity and held you down with the wind, you somehow increased your speed. Not only that, I had changed the way the land moves to take your balance and footing away. In the face of that, you knocked my boulders out of the sky and when you did so, you knocked them in specific spots so as to use them as footholds for that final charge of yours. Even when I thought I had you, you came out with more and more things. You saw that I use my magic through my crown and you used some other method and almost managed to remove my crown from my head. From the outside, it looked as though we were locked in a fierce stalemate but I know the truth, you were moments away from taking the win from me. On top of all that, it seemed like you had another move you were going to use but then Soldo stepped in and stole your focus for an instant. No matter what you say, I have to fight you. As a warrior, as an ape who loves battle more than anything in all of the world, I have to fight you and nothing will change my mind.”)

Once more Groud began to walk forward and Kazuki’s stone confinement slid along the ground, following at Groud’s side.

Kazuki shook his head in dissatisfaction. First, he met that dumb goat-headed fuck that couldn’t be convinced of anything, and now he met an intelligent ape that couldn’t be convinced either. Kazuki wondered if his power of persuasion actually sucked at this point.
