Return of the Fallen Volume 9 Chapter 11

“How!? How can you block every single attack when you can’t see!?”

The two separated again after another useless clash. Ogastx smirked before he slowly wiped his eyes.

Opening them, they glowed with emerald light.

“I use the gordonian element. Even without my eyes, I can sense the magical energy in every rock, in every slab of stone, and every single speck of dirt. Look at yourself, look at your blade and the world around us. Whether be you me or anywhere else, there is always some dirt in the air, clinging to nearly every surface. I can see far better and much clearer than my eyes ever could. This is why you can never attack my blind spot, because the fact is, I have none.”

As Ogastx spoke, the ground beneath Grek trembled slightly. Grek didn’t know what it was but he could sense trouble and something told him to move. Grek listened to this screaming instinct and jumped to the side.

*Tchkrk*

Two metal wires pierced from beneath the ground and came for Grek’s back and side. The one at his side he batted away with the flat side of his sword but the other wire stabbed him in the back of his upper shoulder.

The moment the wire pierced his shoulder, Grek could feel little prongs spreading from the tip of the wire. He quickly gripped the wire protruding from his shoulder and ripped it out in a single movement.

A splat of blood hit the ground, dying it with a bit of blood.

“You however have many blind spots.”

After the wire was pulled out from his shoulder, as if they were alive, they retreated beneath the ground once more and went back to Ogastx.

Grek ripped a bit of his shirt and tied it around his shoulder in a split second to slow the bleeding.

“So you still wish to fight. With that shoulder like that, your power and stamina have been reduced again. You won’t last at this rate, and your family…Well, they will run out of time even quicker. Just give up now. Stop with this useless pride. I will win this no matter what you try and do.”

Grek gripped his blade with both hands and held a steady glare.

“You talk way too much. If you think a small amount of my blood is the thing that will stop me, then you really have taken my reputation lightly.”

Gripping his sword, Grek called out.

“Crescent Moon…Drink.”

Grek spoke up to here before his red sword began all of a sudden to glow and the blood that had spilled on the ground from his shoulder rose up. Separating from the dirt and sand, a small glob of blood shot directly into his sword. The moment this happened, the crescent-shaped crimson sword started to vibrate lightly.

Ogastx didn’t know what was happening but he was getting a terrible feeling.

(His sword…Did it just absorb his blood?)

Grek took a step forward and his body blurred as he left after images in his wake.

(He’s faster than before!)

Ogastx raised two of his metal wires to intercept Grek’s slash but his instincts were screaming at him alarms of danger. At the last second, he raised all eight wires at once to block Grek.

Grek’s blade came down and clashed with the wires. The wires buckled inward to Ogastx shock.

(So fucking heavy!)

He instantly reinforced his wires with his magic and they just barely held together. The impact wasn’t over though. Grek had come down with a powerful slash and because of that, the weight of the blow was increased more so. Ogastx’s feet sank into the ground and the ground broke further creating a crater.

Ogastx struggled with all his might but in the end, he couldn’t take all of it and rolled out of the way.

Grek’s momentum carried him down further and his crescent blade struck the ground.

*BOOM!*

The ground split apart from this blow and a trench 200 feet long and 10 feet wide formed in the ground.

His eyes widened in shock.

(His strength, for an instant, it surpassed my own!)

Ogastx felt both anger, humiliation, and surprise all at once. FOr him to have to roll away like some insect, was humiliating and for someone to actually be stronger than him, it had been a long time since he had met another person with such strength.

Grek pulled his blade from the ground and turned toward Ogastx. The expression he wore was not one of desperation from before but instead of excitement.

(This bastard, his killing intent has increased and his bloodlust is rising. He’s getting a thrill from this fight.)

Ogastx’s rage rose to meet Grek’s bloodlust.

“That expression, hmph, it seems you think I am your prey. I am no one’s game. You are in the palm of my hand, not the other way around! I was too lenient, but it seems you7 can not be swayed with mere words. I will show you the true difference between us and you will SUBMIT!”

Grek was done listening and kicked off the ground, rushing directly at Ogastx. Ogastx snarled before stomping on the ground.

*BAM!*

A large boulder 20 feet high weighing tens of thousands of pounds leaped from the ground and blocked Grek’s path.

*SCHINK*

Grek slashed at the boulder and destroyed it in a single cut. Grek swung again, expecting to cut down Ogastx behind the boulder, but the man was gone. Beneath Grek, all eight wires stabbed from beneath the ground and came whipping and stabbing at Grek. Grek swung out and slapped every single wire away but he still couldn’t see Ogastx anywhere. At the same time, several stone walls rose from the ground. Each one was over 50 feet high and each one came flying over, trying to clap Grek between and flatten him.

Grek’s sword continued to vibrate and he spun like a tornado. His sword cut through every slab like they were made out of mud.

Grek could see no end in sight of these walls. For each one he cut, another would rise from the ground and take its place. The wires as well continued to shoot up from the ground.

Grek’s patience wore thin and he roared.

“ENOUGH!!!”

His sword came crashing down and once again he split the ground apart. The ground collapsed down by several feet and the wires stopped moving for an instant. As soon as this happened, Grek didn’t let the opportunity pass. He reached down and took hold of every single wire and held them tightly. With tremendous force, he ripped them all up from the ground as if they were the roots of all evil.

The wires seemed as if they were going to snag on something, no doubt Ogastx holding on beneath the surface but Grek was not having it.

(You may be physically stronger than me but can you hold on if I crush you to death! Crescent Moon…Drink!)

Grek raised the sword with his good arm and held onto the wires with his wounded one. His sword began to glow slightly brighter and more blood was pulled out from his wounded shoulder and into the sword. The sword resonated even more and as it shook the air around it was being ripped apart.

*CHSSH*

The air being ripped apart around the sword, caused a terrifying sound to be produced. It was as if lightning was being ground down to nothing.

The power of the sword rose and with it, Grek swung it down with everything he had.

His crescent blade met the world and the world seemingly cried out.

*BOOOOOOOM!*

The ground exploded in every direction for almost half a mile. Boulders flew high up in the air because of this explosion and the sky was filled with dust, clouding everything around. Grek felt the land beneath him shift before it all seemed to give and the ground slid forward for about 20 feet before everything beneath his sword went still.

Pulling the wires upward, there was no more resistance of any kind. Even though Grek was feeling extremely exhausted and was covered in sweat. Even as every muscle ached and burned, he still reeled Ogastx in.

Finally, he pulled the last of the wires up but his vision was still blocked from all of the dust so he couldn’t see Ogastx. Still, he was sure he had him. Taking his sword, he swung down where he thought Ogastx was but to his immediate disappointment, he cut nothing but the ground.

“Hmm, so the blade could become even stronger. It’s no wonder you were considered a legend.”

Ogastx’s voice came booming from up above. The dust settled and Grek could now see what was happening around him. The moment he looked up, his eyes widened in absolute shock.

Ogastx was floating in the air, but that wasn’t the shocking part. Above him was a large mass of rock. It was a thousand feet in every direction. Grek now understood. Looking at the wires in his hand, he knew Ogastx was controlling them from above the whole time. The wires and the walls all around him, they were all a distraction from the real threat.

Ogastx smiled fiendishly.

“This is your last chance! Join me or suffer the consequences.”

Grek was pissed. He tossed the wires away from him and gripped the sword with both of his hands once more.

Seeing this defiance, this stubbornness, this disrespect, Ogastx truly was disappointed and enraged.

“SO BE IT!”

With this shout, Ogastx tossed the huge mass weighing millions of pounds downward. Darkness overtook Grek’s vision but even now he held no fear. He gripped his sword tighter and called out to his sword.

“CRESCENT MOON…DRINK!!”
