【Sam’s POV】

“You, who looked down on me. Understand this. This, is where your eyes meet mine.” (Sam)

But just as I was about to pull the trigger, something crashed on the ground right beside me. When the clouds of dust settled, I came to know the identity of the thing that crashed. It was…. the demon that was just fighting with Liera. A moment later, Hargreave touched down on the ground beside me.

The state of the demon that had landed was far worse than Almarick’s. He was missing the lower half of his body, his left arm was crushed brutally and his right eye had been gouged out. He was just barely alive. Looks like this time, Hargreave fulfilled his duty properly. As expected of him.

Though I would prefer if he could that every time and not just when my order required him to get violent.

Almarick looked at his comrade and shuddered.

Maybe he is thankful that I was the one who fought him and not Hargreave? He should be.

This should have taught these two that they shouldn’t have messed with us. Though they won’t be able to do anything with their newfound discovery. The dead cannot do anything, after all. These two are going to die here.

Or that’s what I would have liked to do. As they say, I’ll have to lose this fight to win the war.

I unholstered my second gun and passed it to Hargreave.

“Kill him with this. We’ll do it at the same time.” (Sam)

I tried to buy some time.

If you’re going to do it, then you should do it now Mr. Pest.

“Roger.” (Jack)

Hargreave understood my intentions and took the gun from me.

We aimed our guns at their heads, and put our fingers over the trigger.

Thankfully, these two weren’t acting like the typical villains and spouting nonsense about how the Demon King would avenge them or some shit like that. Neither were they begging us to spare their lives. Looks like they have completely given up. Or they hold absolute trust in that pest. It’s probably the latter.

“On the count of three. One, two, thr-” (Sam)

But before we could pull the trigger, the demons’ bodies started glowing. Almarick, who till now was silent, laughed wickedly and declared condescendingly.

“Hahaha! Looks like you won’t be able to kill us, you damned humans! But don’t worry, for we’ll meet each other on the battlefield again. And at that time, you would be the one who would die!” (Almarick)

After he said that, the light covering them suddenly got stronger, and quickly vanished. The demons who were lying on our feet also vanished along with that light. That pest succeeding in teleporting them before we could kill them.

Although I could’ve stopped them, I didn’t. As much as I would’ve liked to kill them, I cannot allow my emotions to take control of me. Any momentary satisfaction granted by doing an action on impulse is far inferior to the losses that I may incur in the future because of that.

I put my guns back, and hurried back to Chloe and the others.

Yes, right now, my priority is to save Chloe. Those fuckers can be killed later.

“How is she?” (Sam)

“She’s still alive. But she needs immediate treatment.” (Cornellia)

She answered worriedly.

Sasusga, Cornellia! She managed to keep Chloe alive. Bringing her with me was the right choice.

“Understood. I’ll supply you the mana to you for healing her. Take as much as you want.” (Sam)

“Do you even have that much amount of mana?” (Cornellia)

“Don’t worry about that.” (Sam)

After saying that, I stood behind the now kneeling Cornellia. She put both of her hands over her chest and cast the magic to heal her. I placed both of my hands over her shoulders, and closed my eyes. It has been a long time since I last used the mana stored in body, and this was the first time when I was actually supplying it to someone else.

I focused to feel the mana raging inside me. I focused….. and there it is! The bottomless reserve of that violent, wrathful, repulsive and dark mana. I opened my eyes and started pulling out the mana from inside me, and transferred it over to Cornellia through my hands. Her shoulders twitched when she received my mana, and the magic she was using on Chloe suddenly got weaker. But she pulled herself together, and the intensity of that magic grew exponentially.

I could actually see the hole in Chloe’s chest closing up. Her heart formed first, followed by the blood vessels around it, the muscles, the lungs, the ribs and finally the outermost skin covering it all. This all happened in a mere span of 10 seconds. Just as I had initially thought, learning this magic is crucial.

Chloe’s breathing stabilised, and it now looked like she was just sleeping peacefully.

Phew. I don’t know what I would have done if I had lost her. Most probably, I would have lost myself in rage once again and would have wiped out the entire demon race of this world.

Liera, who till now was nowhere to be seen, finally came to us. She looked down at the sleeping Chloe sorrowfully, and then bowed deeply to me.

“Please forgive me. Chloe got hurt because of my incompetence. She almost died today because I couldn’t make the correct decisions.” (Liera)

Oh? So Liera also has this gentle side to her? I never knew that she cared so much about Chloe. Not to mention that……. this wasn’t really her fault, was it?

“Don’t worry about that. More importantly, we need to take Chloe inside and let her rest.” (Sam)

“You’re right. Let’s take her to her room. I’ll arrange for a doctor for a check-up. As for you, Cornellia El Lucent and Karzark….. though I would like to hold a welcome party for you, but we don’t have the time for that.” (Liera)

“Please don’t worry about us. I didn’t come here as the first princess of the Elven Empire, but as the friend of Sam.” (Cornellia)

“Yes. Don’t worry about her. She’ll stay with me for the time being.” (Sam)

“Ok. And who’s that woman?” (Liera)

She asked while pointing at Shiggurath. Right, Liera doesn’t know her.

“She’s my comrade, and will be living with me for the time being.” (Sam)

“Is that so?” (Liera)

She didn’t say anything after that. We went into the castle, and laid Chloe into her bed, where she was now sleeping peacefully. Although I would have liked to stay by her side until she woke up, I unfortunately couldn’t do that. I had a guest to attend to after all. I left Shiggurath, Cornellia and Karzark into Chloe’s room, and came back to mine. Liera was in-charge of handling the aftermath of the battle that just happened.

I entered my room, switched on the magic-operated lights and sat on the sofa. I then spoke.

“It’s alright. No one’s around right now. So you can come out now, Demon King.” (Sam)
