【Regina’s POV】
Samuel used his magic dispelling spell on Leticia 2, thinking that she was made out of mana.
“Wrong! I’m the real Leticia.”
She shouted and hurled the Thunder Dragon’s Horn at him. Hmph, how foolish. As if a mere spell can defeat my cloning technique. My clones are made of mana, but they also have substance and are just like me. They are my mirror images, so to speak.
Samuel used a similar spell to the Thunder Dragon’s Horn and protected himself. I’ll have to admit that he’s strong. But it’s still not enough to defeat me. He would need to be at least as strong as Susan for that.
Ah, how I miss her! I don’t think I’ll be able to hold myself upon meeting her!
Feeling a bit jolly, I teleported to Samuel’s position and launched a kick. It seemed he was unprepared for it, as he was quickly sent flying. He managed to use his spell on me as well, but since I was the real one it simply didn’t work on me. His spell also had a function where it tried to disrupt my body’s mana, but under my mana control something of that level can’t even touch me.
“Wrong! I’m real as well!”
“Nani?!”
He muttered something incomprehensible as I slammed him into the ground using Devourer. He managed to avoid getting slashed but got his sword broken. His right arm was also twisted in the wrong direction. His arm glowed with a golden hue and started to return to its normal state.
“Mana Zone.”
So Leticia 2 used her Mana Zone to cancel out his spell’s effects. The glow was weakened, but it was still there. Impressive. Next she used the toned down version of Absolute Requiem. Samuel evaded that, but his sides were frozen.
So I dashed at him and kicked him in the guts which once again sent him flying, out of Leticia 2’s Mana Zone. Oh well. He healed his arm and thawed his sides, but he was already in the endgame.
Leticia 2 used her magic to create a quicksand beneath Samuel and trapped him there. I readied my Devourer and dashed at him. Leticia 2 opened a teleportation portal for me so in an instant, I was already in front of Samuel.
Using the sword gifted to me by the Demon God, I stabbed him, but that sneaky guy managed to save his heart from being pierced. That doesn’t matter though. I gave the sword a twist to lodge it there firmly and stepped back.
This is the end.
I activated the special ability of the Devourer. The Devourer, like a God of Gluttony, can eat up anything and everything it touches. And that includes mana as well. That would prevent him from using his underhanded regenerative magic spell.
I then activated the second ability of the Devourer, which forces the sword to explode causing a large explosion. The sword can later regenerate itself to reclaim its former glory.
The sword exploded the moment I stepped back. In an instant, his right torso and his heart were blown away. He vomited out blood. His bloodshot eyes looked at me, but they didn’t hold any emotion like grudge or despair. They…….. just looked at me, and then they closed.
What a weird man. He was mysterious right till the end.
“Goodbye, Samuel. You can rest now. I’ll handle the rest from here.”
With that I gave him my last farewell. I felt just a little bit- no, a tiny bit rueful for killing him. Well, it’s his fault for going against me.
No wait, he did offer me a chance to work together, but my Eyes of the Fate told me that he was on the path to ruin. No way in hell I was going to work with him.
………
Susan would have liked to meet him though.
I could feel him dying. He was still barely holding onto his life due to his brain remaining intact, but that too would pass.
Forgive me Samuel, for betraying and killing you like this. But I can’t take any more chances. The many betrayals of the past have taught me that the only way to tread down the path of victory is to rely only on myself.
I have gained the power to achieve everything on my own: Bahamut can take care of the only shackle that bound me till now. That’s why I don’t need you anymore.
“Sam!”
Someone screamed from some distance away, and I could see the girl named Chloe falling on her knees in despair after witnessing Samuel’s death.
“SAM! You bitch, I will kill you!”
The elf in that group shouted and tried to make her way towards me, but she was stopped by Abdiel.
“Where are you going? Your enemy is in front of you.”
He informed her and then attacked her.
“Get out of my way, Demon! I have to save Sam, or he will, or he will!”
She struggled in vain against Abdiel, but my Commandment was not so weak that he would be pushed back by a mere elf.
Not to mention that they can’t do anything now to save Samuel. With his heart destroyed, he has no hope of surviving.
Perhaps due to the shouts of those two girls, the word of Samuel’s death spread on the battlefield. The soldiers lost their will to fight, while the Commanders leading them fell into despair while making them retreat.
Even Shiggurath fighting against Bahamut came to know of Samuel’s death, and tried flying over here while screaming to save him, but she was swiftly stopped by Bahamut.
Despair spread in the hearts of my enemies like a forest on fire.
However, there was one exception. Only one man didn’t show any visible reaction to Sam’s death.
Jack Hargreave remained in the air, annihilating the dragons. He looked in our direction, and our eyes met.
This man is the only one who can put a damper on my plans. He is the only variable that can cause my defeat. I was surprised when he pushed back Bahamut, but I’m sure that was a fluke. Even if it wasn’t, he can be taken care of if all of us fight together. Just a bit more, and I would achieve my goal.
However, when our eyes met, he just shook his head, sneered and turned his head away, as if whatever happening here wasn’t his business.
Reishu, the King of Lanpas, the filthy elf who had killed another of my Commandments in the last war, also looked over us with a worried expression. But when Jack said something to him, he stiffly nodded and focused on killing the dragons.
What is this?
I have killed Samuel. My Commandments will soon kill the members of his party while Bahamut will end Shiggurath. When that happens, we can finally gang up on Jack and finish him once and for all. After that, I’ll massacre the entire army and find that fucking bastard who had been using me till now. I’ll find him, and torture him so so much that he’ll regret being born, and then I’ll finally rescue her.
My plans are about to come to fruition. My victory is certain.
So why is it?
Why am I feeling this dread creeping up from behind? When I’m this close to victory, why do I feel like I am about to lose?
Why do I get the feeling that this time, I’ll lose everything?
Just-
“Haaaah………”
?!
A deep sigh came from somewhere in front of me. But how could it be? There was no one there.
There is no one- no, there is someone. He is there.
“I’ll have to admit, you got me there.”
The corpse was speaking. No, it wasn’t a corpse anymore.
“Well, doesn’t matter. Let’s begin round two, shall we?”
