【Sam’s POV】
“Hmph, you sure are very egoistic. I’m sure Phiria would never do such a thing. But why should you believe me? I’ll let you ask her directly.”
Not that he would believe me. The only way to make him believe and then break his spirit in that process is-
“Huh?”
Azell let out a confused voice, and gazed at me. Maybe he didn’t understand what I just said.
I used Inventory and took out the golden switch I had gained as a reward from the dungeon after I defeating Balgaar. At that time, I wanted the black switch, but considering the current situation the golden one isn’t bad either. No, considering the antagonistic relationship of Bahamut and Shiggurath, this is in fact better.
The switch’s golden surface shone and the gems jutted on it glittered. I took off the cap and the button came out: its bright red surface asking to be pressed.
Perhaps sensing the mana from the switch- or maybe the switch itself- and recognising it, Jack almost exclaimed.
“That’s…….!”
“Yes, you got it right.”
I confirmed his suspicions and pressed the red button. The moment I did that, the switch disintegrated, turned into dust and was blown away from my hands by the wind.
Wait, wind?
A gentle breeze brushed past my cheeks, bringing a fresh, grassy scent along with it. The dark clouds looming over us cleared up, and a stark clear blue sky opened up. The sun shone radiantly. The ground beneath us trembled, and grass abruptly grew on it.
The smell of blood lingering in the air cleared up. The various corpses of dragons and soldiers were also swallowed up by the ground.
In just a few moments, the battlefield had returned to the former grasslands. Birds chirped in the distance and small animals like rabbits also made their appearance.
Imma be honest, this seems kinda creepy.
“T-This is…..?!”
Regina mumbled in disbelief, perhaps because she realised the phenomena happening here.
The World was preparing for the descent of its ruler.
The World was welcoming its ruler.
And then, a huge bluish teleportation portal opened high up in the sky. Silhouetted by the shining sun, a figure exited from it and started descending towards us.
“I-Impossible…….”
Azell murmured in a daze, perhaps because he recognised that figure.
Soon enough, that figure came down and landed right in front of me, peering into my eyes with a mischievous smile.
“Lady Phiria!”
Azell exclaimed. His face brightened up and he got up from his position and kneeled on the spot, though due to not having any arms his kneeling position was very weird.
Yes, the figure who descended from the sky was none other than the Princess of the God’s Realm, the Goddess of Life, Phiria.
Fitting for the title of a Goddess, she was beautiful beyond imagination. Her azure eyes and glossy blonde hair, paired with her pale skin and the gentle smile on her face. Garbed in a crimson gown with beautiful back and golden patterns emphasising her narrow waistline and large bust, the neckpiece of which was fitted with a ruby, and a veil covering her hair, made her the perfect embodiment of a Goddess.
On the other hand, the golden gauntlets with six precious stones protecting both of her hands, a golden staff in her left hand and a ceremonial sword with a blue edge in her right, showed her warrior side. The overwhelming mana inhabiting her weapons and the majesty she was exuding made all living things want to bow down before her.
Phiria looked at Azell kneeling before her with a serene expression, the smile never leaving her face.
“What are you all doing?! Kneel before the Goddess!”
Azell shouted, bringing everyone back from their trance.
“Holy shit, it’s really Lady Phiria……..”
Liera muttered, and she immediately genuflected on the spot. Chloe, unsure of what to do, also genuflected along with them. Both the former and current Dragon Emperor didn’t do anything of that sort, of course.
Jack Hargreave, the Adjudicator, would never kneel before anyone. Regina, on the other hand, just uncomfortably shifted in her position but didn’t bow. Her loyalty to her own god is really something.
That just leaves me.
I slightly bowed, took her hand holding the sword and gently kissed the back of it.
“Good evening, O Goddess of Life Phiria.”
She giggled charmingly.
“Ara~ If it isn’t Samuel Hayden, the current Hero of my world.”
“Yes.”
I stood up from my position.
“So, you have finally concluded the war going on between humans and demons.”
“So it would seem.”
“No need to be so humble. Everyone knows that you were the one who ended this war. And for that you have my gratitude.”
“Thank you, milady.”
“But there is one thing I’m still dissatisfied with.”
Hmm? I could see Azell’s smile widening from the corner of my eyes.
“And what would that be?”
“You summoned me only after the entire thing was over. I wanted to participate and fight alongside you. I thought you would summon me and ask for my help in the fight against Bahamut.”
Oi. So that’s why Regina got the black switch! It was a conspiracy!
“Well…. My comrades were capable of handling that so I didn’t feel the need to impose upon you.”
“Hmph.” But Phiria only pouted. “Anyway, you have finally used your reward. Tell me, what do you demand of me?”
Her dissatisfaction vanished in an instant and she smiled again. Azell flinched the moment Phiria mentioned the reward, but he didn’t dare look up unless his revered Goddess allowed him to do so.
The reward in question, is of course the golden switch I got after defeating Balgaar. Regina’s switch allowed her to summon the Dragon Emperor Bahamut and make him do her bidding for just one time. My golden switch, on the other hand, allowed me to summon the Goddess of Life Phiria and ask her to fulfil my one wish. And what better time is there to use it than now?
“Before that……. Can you ask them to stand up? It’s a bit awkward talking to you like this…..”
“Ah, I apologise for that.” She turned towards the ones kneeling. “Everyone, please stand up.”
She commanded. Azell, happy that he was now allowed to face his Goddess, stood up with a beaming smile on his face. For a brief moment his eyes looked at me with disgust and scorn, but he quickly walked up to Phiria and spoke up.
“It’s been a long time, Lady Phiria.”
Phiria looked at him silently, and Azell continued.
“Now, please pass judgement upon these foolish heathens!” He pointed at me- with his chin, of course. “They dared to try and go against you and your grand plans, so-”
“Sorry, who are you again?”
Phiria asked in a confused voice.
“Eh?”
Oof. Damn, that must have hurt. The goddess he prayed to and followed his whole life was asking him who he was. Can I get an F for him in the chat?
“I-I’m Azell, t-the member of the first Hero party who was granted immortality by you!”
He exclaimed in desperation. He was sweating bullets and his legs were already swaying.
“Ah, Azell. Now I remember.”
Azell sighed in relief, but Phiria’s smile had vanished.
“You are a member of the first Hero Party, and the traitor.”
“Huh?”
Oya?
