【Sam’s POV】
“Ah, Azell. Now I remember. The member of the first Hero Party, and the traitor.”
“Hue?”
Azell stupidly grunted. Being called a traitor by Phiria must have been out of his expectations.
“W-What do you mean by that…..?”
He finally mustered the courage to ask. But the kindness inside Phiria’s eyes vanished, and what replaced it was fury.
“What do I mean? You still have the audacity to ask that? Wasn’t it you who betrayed Susan Invern, the first Hero, and the rest of the Heroes who followed her, only for your own selfish desires? Weren’t you the one who made comrades turn against each other for your own twisted reasons? Who would be the traitor if not you? Answer me, Lucius Von Vetto.”
Von Vetto? So he too was the part of royalty? Maybe he and Liera are siblings?
“B-But you were the one who ordered me to do that!”
“I ordered you?”
The air around Phiria changed for the worse. She was seething with rage.
“When did I order you to betray Susan? When this world faced crisis and you wanted to summon a Hero, I provided you the summoning ritual in the hope that all of you would work together and resolve that crisis. However, you turned against the Hero. You stabbed her in the back.”
“B-but you were the one who passed me oracles asking me to do all of that!”
Flustered, Azell almost screamed.
Oracles? Hmm…….
“Haaah? Oracles? Why would I give oracles to someone like you?”
The moment she mocked him like that, Azell’s face was drained of all colour and he knelt down, unable to handle the brunt of what was said to him.
“So you really did betray Susan……”
Liera muttered in utter disgust. Did she perhaps harbour the hope that he hadn’t?
“Yes. This bastard betrayed Susan, not me. I was her loyal friend right till the very end.”
Liera turned to Regina with a confused expression.
“What are you talking about? How do you know Susan?”
“Ah right, you don’t know about it. Let me reintroduce her: Regina Zi Maxwell, the original Demon King.”
I interjected and reintroduced Regina.
“Regina?!”
“Yes, Liera. It was me all along. All the Demon Kings of the past were me.”
Regina smiled weakly and responded.
“Oh….”
And Liera could only mutter that. Regina’s face now filled with wrath, and she turned towards Azell.
“Well now, fuckface. Tell me where you have hidden Susan.”
“What?!”
This time, everyone excluding Jack, Phiria, Bahamut and I screamed. Hmm, if I have to exclude 4 people just to use the term ‘everyone’, I probably shouldn’t use it. Ignoring them, Regina walked towards the despair-stricken Azell who was kneeling on the ground and stopped in front of him. She took out her sword Devourer, pointed it at him and demanded again.
“Where the hell is Susan?!”
“What do you mean-”
However, just as Liera was about to interfere again, I stopped her.
“Please remain silent for a moment.”
This is the moment of truth: I cannot let anyone interfere now. Azell, on the other hand, didn’t even flinch. No, perhaps he didn’t even possess the mental capacity required to flinch. After all, everything that he believed in was denied in the span of a few moments. The world he was living in had been crushed. The Goddess he had so revered and committed all kinds of evils on her so-called orders had refused to acknowledge him.
He was just murmuring something in a daze.
“This is impossible this is impossible this is impossible this is impossible this is impossible this is impossible this is impossible this is impossible this is impossible…………… Ah, I see.”
He suddenly looked up, his face devoid of any emotion and his eyes devoid of any light. He glared at Phiria.
“You……. are not Phiria.”
He declared coldly.
“Hmm?”
Phiria’s eyebrows furrowed in puzzlement.
“You are not Phiria. Yeah, now it makes sense. After all, there’s no way Lady Phiria would say something like that to me. Yes, you are just an impostor posing as Lady Phiria, and hence you must be eliminated!”
He grinned creepily.
Just then, his body swelled up in size and a torrent of mana swirled around him, causing Regina to avert her eyes. A grotesque mass of meat jutted out from his shoulders and created four arms for him. His skin turned red, veins popped up on his entire body, his hair turned white and a third eye appeared on his forehead.
“KRAAAGH!!!”
And he roared. His roar was so powerful that strong gales blew. His eyes didn’t contain a hint of intelligence as the 3 metre giant swiftly dashed past Regina, moving towards Phiria. His sheer speed caused shockwaves and the on the path of his sword the space itself bent.
“I will kill you phoney!”
He screamed in a frenzy of rage.
At the rate he was going he could really do that. Would he be the first human ever to kill a God? How would the God’s Realm react to this? I was really interested in getting the answers to my questions, but of course, for the question of whether Azell could kill Phiria, the answer-
“Is that so?”
Was a resounding no.
A cold barbaric voice resounded, and Azell stopped in his tracks, his sword stopping a few millimetres before it could cut Phiria. And why wouldn’t he? After all, an arm was jutting out from his back.
Hargreave had moved in front of Phiria before Azell could and impaled his heart with his right arm.
“Khaok!”
Azell coughed out blood, but he still had some fight left in himself: perhaps the unnaturally large amount of mana was keeping him alive. He attacked Jack with his sword, but the arm holding that sword was easily clipped off by Jack. Before he could do anything else, Jack pulled out his right arm along with Azell’s heart.
He showed the heart to Azell, and then crushed it mercilessly. The blood from the heart splattered on Azell’s face, thus dying his face even redder.
Azell tried to move again. He raised his hand holding the sword and tried to slash Jack, but a human without a heart is like a marionette without its strings. There was no way he could do anything again.
And so, with disbelief and despair contorting his barely human face, Azell fell.
The traitor of the first Hero party met a tragic, but well-deserved, end.
“Going against Hargreave…….. that’s honestly the dumbest thing he could have done.”
Liera murmured to herself as she silently gazed at his corpse. Well technically speaking, Azell didn’t actually go against Jack. But on the other hand.
“What… what have you done!?”
Regina wailed in horror.
Oh right, I can understand why she would say that.
“By killing him, you have also killed Susan! You fucking bastard!”
She pulled out both of her swords and pointed them at Jack, who looked at her like ‘What’s this dumb woman saying?’. Please take this seriously Jack.
“Please wait Regina, Susan is not dead yet.”
I need to calm her down first.
“What?!”
“Yes. I had already severed the connection between Azell’s- no, was it Lucius? Yes, Lucius’ and Susan’s soul. That’s what I had been aiming for to begin with.”
“Huh?”
Regina was dumbfounded.
“Yes. So Susan is safe now.”
Of course, I would do that before anything else. I couldn’t have let him take out Susan with his own death.
“Ah……. I see.”
She muttered and abashedly put away her sword, all the while refusing to meet Jack’s eyes.
“Say Samuel, what do you mean by Susan is alive?”
Reygus, unable to hold in his curiosity and hope, finally asked.
“I mean what I say. Susan is alive.”
“But how is that possible?!”
Liera asked. But before I could answer, Phiria interjected.
“He speaks the truth. The first Hero Susan is alive. She was the captive of Azell all this while.”
See? That’s what I was talking about.
