【Sam’s POV】

“Let’s go now, shall we?”

Sam II said.

“Where are we going?”

“We’ll take this path,” He pointed to the exit of this hall. “And head towards the main hall of this dungeon. That’s where everyone who has completed their Trial is directed to.”

“That’s where we’ll get the weapon for the Heroes, I assume?”

“Correct.” He nodded. “Each of the Heroes will get a God class weapon.”

“Woah, each of them?”

A Hero with a God class weapon is basically a one-man army. 36 of such Heroes would be powerful enough to raze countries to the ground.

“Don’t worry, each of those weapons belong at the bottom of the God class; not overpowered enough to destroy countries with a single swing, but still powerful enough to take their wielders to completely new heights.”

“Phew.”

I dunno what I would have done if each of them got a weapon crafted by Jack. But since they are in the low tier of the God class, they shouldn’t be much of a threat to us.

“Aight. Let’s go- wait.” I remembered something. “Are there any more Trials after this?”

Like, what if this Trial was made up of three parts instead of two? Sam II did say that I was correct in my evaluation of the Trial, but since he’s a clone of me, I don’t think I can completely trust his words.

…..Being unable to believe the words of my own self; just how far have I fallen?

⟦Very much.⟧

⟦Thank you for that completely unnecessary addition to my monologue, Simone.⟧

Goddamnit.

“There shouldn’t be.” Sam II replied bluntly, and then added. “Probably.”

Dude…..

“If anything crops up, then you’re dealing with it.”

“Wait, why should I?” He protested. “The Trial is intended for you, so obviously you have to be the one to handle it.”

“There’s nothing obvious about it. The moment you step out of this room with me, you become one of the challengers of this duel. So, you should handle it!”

“I refuse.”

Am I really that adamant?

“Oh well, we’ll deal with it when the time comes.”

For all we know, the Trial’s activation could be automatic, just like the time when I was sent to that fake world when I stepped in through that opening.

“I’m fine with that.”

With that, Sam II took the lead and we started walking towards the exit. Unlike before, there was no blinding light pouring in from it, so I knew that at least we weren’t going to be teleported.

Instead, something a bit more troublesome was waiting for us.

“And, what are they supposed to be?” I faced Sam II and pointed at my front. “Another Trial?”

“Apparently, they are the monsters inhabiting this dungeon, but you’re supposed to face them only on your way out.”

“So, what’re they doing here?”

Don’t tell me that he was secretly leading me outside this dungeon?

“Dunno.” He shrugged irresponsibly. “I did say apparently. Perhaps the System made some changes that I was not informed of?”

Uwaah, this guy’s so useless.

“Then take care of them.”

“Again, why should I?”

“Because you have Tzeeneth? It’s already pestering you to let it out and kill these monsters, isn’t it?”

Sam II scowled at me.

“Then how about you take it from me and demolish these monsters yourself?”

Huh. Just like me, he wants to avoid doing something which is clearly a pain in the ass.

“How could I ever do something so boorish?” I shook my head. “Tzeeneth has clearly chosen you as its partner for this endeavour. As a man, it’s my duty to respect the wishes of my partner.”

“Oh, now you’re a man just because it’s convenient to you?” His expression scrunched up in displeasure. “Roles that have been predetermined for men have always been sexist, haven’t they?”

“What can I say? We live in a society.”

While we were bickering with each other, a bear-like monster which was 3 metres tall and was covered with white fur (essentially a polar bear) swung its arm at Sam II. From that swing, three red-ish ‘blades’ were shot at him.

While he stepped aside to dodge it, I took the chance and jumped back to create some distance from them.

“All the best, Sam II.” I shouted. “I’m cheering for you!”

“You bastard!”

He cursed as he evaded another such attack. After its second attack was also dodged, the bear-like monster- let’s just call it Kuma- sprinted from its position towards Sam II. It was incredibly fast; it covered a distance of 20 metres within 3 seconds (not as fast as Bolt, I guess).

As it neared Sam II, it stood on its hind legs and lashed its claws at Sam II’s face. But of course, in the next instant, its arm was cleaved off.

“Guoohh!”

It howled in pain, but couldn’t continue for much longer as its head rolled to the ground, followed by its body falling with a thud.

In Sam II’s hand was the jet-black interlocking double blade, Tzeeneth. An aura of death flowed from it, spreading despair in the hearts of its enemies like a plague.

The monsters flinched back when they saw Tzeeneth, but alas, it was already too late for them.

Hmm, now, the monsters cover a rectangle of area 40 metres squared. If I take 3 random squares of areas of 1 metre squared and count the number of monsters within them, the average number of monsters comes out to be 2.9. Multiplying it by the total area, we have around 116 monsters.

However, the monsters themselves have been divided into three groups; the bear-like monsters, the wolf-like monsters (let’s call them Okami for now) which also have white hide and three tails, and lastly, the 15 metres tall wyvern at the back.

Using the same method as before, there are around 70 Okamis and 45 Kumas.

While I was passing my time- I mean, collecting valuable information on the enemy side (which took me around 3 seconds), Tzeeneth squirmed, converted into black liquid, and then transformed into a bow. Sam II plucked the string and stretched it out, and a black arrow which seemed to be made of the same substance as Tzeeneth appeared.

Taking his aim, Sam fired that arrow.

The wyvern at that back, perhaps realising that the arrow was headed towards it, started some kind of magic casting. Alas, it was too late.

“Raaahhh!”

Those were its death throes as the arrow penetrated and passed through its head, thus ending its life.

Watching their boss being taken out so effortlessly, the monsters finally understood that they had chosen the wrong opponent. Again, they were too late.

Tzeeneth squirmed again and turned back to its former form. Sam II gripped the handle with both his hands, and-

“Hup!”

-snapped it into two, thus getting two longswords. Twirling them in his hands, he jumped and landed right in the middle of the monster horde.

“Graahh!”

The Kuma closest to him slashed at him with its claws, but Sam II made short work of it. Three wolves attacked at him from behind, so he converged the two longswords into a 3 metres long broadsword and swirled. The broadsword cut through everything like a hot knife cutting through butter.

Seeing that carnage, some monsters tried to run away. At that moment, Tzeeneth turned into a spear, and Sam II skewed 3 Kumas into a kebab. Perhaps seeing this as a chance as his weapon was stuck, a Kuma shot its claw attack.

Again, Tzeeneth squirmed and transformed into a dagger. Like water weaving through rocks, Sam II moved and slashed the necks of many monsters. He then jumped into the air, turned Tzeeneth into a large longbow, nocked several arrows in it, and showered a volley of arrows at those pitiful monsters, instantly ending the lives of many of them.

While he was doing that, I was lamenting that I didn’t bring a utensil to heat the corn I had brought with myself. Had I not made such a blunder, then I would have been able to enjoy the show while having some popcorn.

Hmm, while I’m at it, I should develop a way to make soft drinks. The main problem is the carbonization of water. I wonder how to do that….. Should I go back to Earth and steal Coca-Cola’s recipe?

I need to further develop my magic.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

While I was thinking all that, Sam II finished the last of those monsters and came back.

“Do that yourself next time goddamnit!”

He cussed after Tzeeneth assimilated in his body again, leaving only the traces of blood on his body. I took out a mask from ‘Inventory’ and passed it to him.

“Here, wear this.”

“Ah, right.” He donned it. “Can’t have your classmates recognise you as Samuel Hayden.”

“It’s our classmates.”

“That sounds like communist propaganda but okay.”

And so, we made our way towards the heart of the dungeon.

【3rd person’s POV】

After the Heroes and Sam had entered the dungeon ‘Gods and Demons’.

The Dragon nest where Sam and the others had encountered the Ancient Dragon and forced it to sleep so that they could get away without incurring any major damages.

Before the soundly sleeping dragon stood a man with his arms crossed. Looking at the dragon, he let out a small sigh because of the pain his next task was going to be.

Oh well. He thought. Chief’s orders, so I can’t hold back. All right then, let’s get this over with and go back.

Renewing his bleak determination, he raised his hands on the dragon and started his magic spell.

I still don’t understand the need for this; that dungeon has its own Trial, so why do we have to conduct one of ours?

He thought and thought, but the only reason he could come up with was that this was a test to measure their strength, or perhaps, his.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t interested, but……….

But he still couldn’t understand why he had to be personally sent. A task as menial as this could have been accomplished by anyone else.

Suddenly, that man sensed something with his presence detection magic. With fierce haste, he quickly masked his own presence and hid inside the bushes.

Some moments later, three figures touched down at the spot he had been.

The man at the very front who had black hair and black eyes, was looking around the area,

“Hmm, did they battle here?”

That man took out the pipe like thing from his mouth and blew out smoke. But that wasn’t the issue; that wasn’t the issue at all.

The moment he saw recognised one of the other two figures, Cled Kessler swore in his heart that he would definitely demand the Chief to give him a raise.

However, it seemed that he would never get the chance to.

After all, that man’s black eyes were staring straight into his.
